Champ Bailey

“I’ll be out there this week, one way or another,” Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey told reporters on Monday. “I definitely want to be out there when we clinch this division.”

After missing five consecutive games with a groin injury, the Broncos’ defensive team captain and Pro Bowler has vowed to return to the field this week. He could be coming back at a celebratory time – with a Chargers loss, the Broncos would be playing for the division title.

Bailey has been limited in practice for two weeks, listed as Questionable for both games. He would be returning to face the Kansas City Chiefs, who embarrassed the Broncos in Week 4.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Mike Shanahan wasn’t sure either way. “We will see how he practices. He seems to be getting a little bit better. He practiced a little last week. We will get a chance to evaluate him over the next few days.”

The Broncos are hoping to get some of their playmakers back healthy just in time for the playoff push. With any luck, Champ will return to bring a boost to a defense thirsty for revenge against the Chiefs.

this is great news for this team. Especially for guys like josh bell and jack williams they can learn alot from mr bailey.

sunday will be a great test for our safties and lb’s going against Tony.

great news for Bronco fans, but i wonder when webster is healthy does he start or does larsen cont MLB spot???
**I like winborn more than boss, boss cant tackle

  • DaveMoore

Merc, from what I’ve seen from them both this season, I think it has to be Larsen. Sure the guy is a rookie still, and occasionally there are rookie mistakes, he’s very prone to being fooled by misdirection for example, but he hits like a train and plays hard 100%, and I think has much more upside than Webster long term.

Great news on getting Bailey back, but when he does return the coaches need to make sure they keep playing Dre the same way he has the past few weeks, i.e. in press man on man coverage, which I think he’ll have to this week with Gonzalez taking up a safety all game this week.

Roll on KC! Let’s get some revenge!!!

There’s really no way that Boss avoids getting cut in the offseason, is there? Too bad we have 2 stud weakside backers (Woodyard & DJ) and two injury prone strongside backers (Boss & Winborn).

Any of you know whats become of Jack Williams? Seems like he came out of preseason as the golden boy, now he’s nowhere. What’s the scoop?

  • adam

And where’s Crowder, any word on whats been going on with his development?

  • T-Money

Adam… We wont cut boss the offseason. There’s no way.

I’ve listened to so much negative talk about Dre Bly this year that I have hardly noticed that he’s been a pretty tough defender the last few games. EVERY CB gets torched occasionally and Bly really takes a verbal beating when he does. This tends to happen when you play opposite one of the greatest shutdown CBs in NFL history.

If Bly keeps it up with Champ coming back, I think we’ll be in every game we have left.

And by the way- I’m sure Tony Gonzalez is a nice guy and all, but he might as well play for the Raiduhs, because I hate seeing him on the field. He might be old, but he is still a threat that could be a difference maker if our boys don’t come ready to play on Sunday.

    Moore-
I agree with u 110% larsen is a hard hitter and with more experience will only help ; ) im tired of seeing webster’s helment flying off on a tackle, and why keep boss? moss is just like him, so trade him
**moss is getting alot better…he’s putting pressure on the QB

  • adam

T-Money…interesting thought. With all the upcoming signings that we need to get done, I don’t see how they can afford to keep Boss. What duo of young stars would you be willing to give up in order to keep Boss. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Boss, just curious how the club can afford to keep an unproven injury prone vet.

  • T-Money

I don’t know. I just don’t see Boss leaving. You make a good point though

  • Matt

I could see boss getting the pink slip. I wouldnt be too upset if we lose him next year. I am stoked on woodyard and winborn does what he needs to do to get the job done. If we can draft some safties and a DT we could have a young explosive D next year. Bell, Barrett, Larsen, Woodyard with vets like champ, Dre, DJ, Winborn. Thats a good mix of youth and talent. I like the idea of converting moss even though he has looked better at DE.

Larsen hasn’t been so spectacular since that first game he was out there. He had a great game in part because he wasn’t expected to play and nobody knew his tendencies so they couldn’t game plan for him.

I’m happy to let him play and all but I want to see more from him than we saw the last two games.
