Champ Bailey

Denver Broncos Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey is hoping to return to the football field this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, Adam Schefter of NFL.com reports. Bailey suffered a groin injury in Week 7 against the New England Patriots that was originally expected to keep him out up to five weeks. Now he appears set to return after only missing two games and the bye week:

Broncos Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey said during pregame warmups that he intends to play in Denver’s next game at Atlanta in Week 11. Bailey was projected to miss up to five weeks with a groin injury and has missed the team’s past two games.

The location of the game will be a driving force for Bailey, who grew up in Georgia. Bailey said he really wants to play in front of his hometown fans, which he has not done since his days with the Redskins.

Our CB’s have played well in Champ’s absence, but there’s no doubt our defense is much better with #24 on the field. We’ll need all the help we can get, too – we’re on the road, across the country, and facing a surprisingly good Atlanta team. Hopefully Champ can return to his home town and be a big part of a Broncos East Coast upset.

As much as I’d love to see Champ out there, I really hope he doesn’t rush it and aggrevate/re-injure his grion.

I thought that 4-6weeks was just a doctors assumptions. That’s like thier security blanket. And Champ really doesn’t have a history of rushing things. He’s pretty smart. I’m excited.

I agree with Ryan. I really don’t want to see him re-aggrevate his injury to be out another four weeks. I’d much rather see him out for this one and return the following week to be safe.

We need someone to cover Roddy White even though hes on my fantasy football team….but I’ll take a W over fantasy points any day.

this is probably a bit of kidology. Make the falcons install two game plans unless they’d let a rookie throw at champ :) personally, i’d rather have champ fit in january when this defense will need him rather than take a risk now but we have to be playing in january for that to work out. Maybe a groin transplant from jack williams?

    M-birty,

    LOL!

PA system: Jack “MF” Williams, please head to the training room.
    Jack: Hey, doc, what’s up?
Team trainer: Hey, Jack. We need your help.
    Jack: Sure, anything.
Team trainer: I’m glad you feel that way.
Jack: Whoh, dude! WTF is that? Get that butcher’s knife away from me! [Champ enters the room] Champ, thank god you’re here. Doc has lost his freaking mind.

[Champ slaps a mean choke hold on Jack….Jack slowly loses consciousnes…]

    Jack: Why, Champ? Why….zzzzzzzz
Champ: Okay, doc. Let’s finish this. Groin me up!

UPDATE – Bailey will “test” his groin on Tuesday (Ed: sick, dude), then determine if he’ll be ready to practice and play.
