Mike Shanahan announced just an hour ago that wide receiver Taylor Jacobs has been released. Also, the Denver Broncos have officially placed rookie defensive tackle Carlton Powell on the reserve/unable to perform list.

Jacobs participated in six games for Denver last season, but was waived early in the off-season. He was then resigned shorty after wide receiver Edell Shepherd was placed on injured reserve (on July 26th, 2008).

These moves bring the Broncos down to 75 players, the Broncos must be down to 53 players by August 30th.

I know I am off topic here, but why isn’t woodyard being considered for MLB? He is very fast and a tackling machine!

Does anyone have any idea of what happens to salaries when a player goes on IR? Will Powell get his whole salary this year? Just curious.

I was interested in the salary situation too. Turns out you do still earn your salary. Unless the injury was a “non-football” related injury. There’s nothing about what happens if you’re “Too Fat to Play”.

    This is from NFLPA

    3. Reserve/Injured (IR)
A player who sustains an injury in a practice or game that renders him physically unable to perform after passing his club’s pre-season physical may be placed on his club’s Reserve Injured list. While on IR a player will continue to receive his salary and medical care and is permitted to attend meetings, but he is prohibited from practicing and playing in games for his club for the remainder of the season.
