    I think it is a rather odd fact that Colorado has a lower percentage of the population affected by Type 1 than the rest of the country. CO had 5% vs the 7% nationwide. You all must have really good genes up there! :)

    This may come off sounding racist, but it’s completely not, just statistics. It is probably because we have a lower African American population compared to most states in the U.S. and they have a 2 to 1 rate for Type 1 compared to other ethnic groups.

    That’s interesting… Since the quote only mentioned CO, I wonder if there are other states with similar percentage differences based on the level of population diversity. Maybe some medical wiz could write a paper on it. :)

    Josh is right. The risk for type 1 is much higher in African Americans. We talked quite a bit about it in my Nutrition class. Working in the OR at a hospital i see quite a bit of patients coming in for surgery who dont take care of their diabetes. But its not always type 1 and I’m sure Cutler will be taking much beter care of himself.
