Jared Allen Trade Gives Chiefs the Power to Move Up…

I can just see it now… the draft is falling perfectly into place for the Broncos to select my guy, Ryan Clady. Boston College QB Matt Ryan falls to the Ravens, who are the most likely to take Clady. It’s a straight shot from there through Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Buffalo. We’re home free! Clady’s going to fall to 12!

Swoop… out of nowhere, Commissioner Roger Goodell bellows these nightmarish words:

[Roger Goodell]

“We have a trade.” [Long pause so the 4,000 Jets and Giants fans in attendance can boo for no reason] “The Buffalo Bills have traded the 11th overall selection to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 17th overall pick, along with one of the four other picks the freaking Chefs have in the 2nd-3rd rounds.”

And, nine and a half minutes later…

“With the 11th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Ryan Clady, tackle, Boise State.”

You don’t want to be near me when and if this happens, fellow fans. My laptop would become permanently inserted into the nearest wall.

Also note that the Chiefs could still do this with, say Chris Williams, should Clady be off the board. That would leave the Broncos pretty short on options along the offensive line.

Yes, we’re two days away, and the paranoia has begun.

    I hadn’t really thought about that. Kansas City has a ton of selections and is in prime position for an elite DE or an elite OT; and they actually have the ammunition to get both. That’s real scary. Kansas City could actually get away with getting a Vernon Gholston, a Ryan Clady and still have a couple other early picks. That’s disgusting.

    In all seriousness, this is seriously going to happen. The Chiefs should do it if they have any sense whatsoever.

    oh man this would suck immensely, i too like Clady. but im having a little optimism here that the chiefs may go with brandon albert at number 5. he is shooting up the boards and some say he is the second best OT tackle prospect behind jake long. i have albert going number 5 to the chiefs in my mock draft. the chiefs could take albert at 5 and then derrick harvey or phillip merling at the 17 pick. keep a little hope. LOL. i think we will get our guy. Clady or Chris Williams.

    Yea, that would stink if that happens. I hope we can get Clady with Williams as a consolation prize. Albert brings up an interesting possibility- but I think that if the Cheifs want him, that he will be there at 17. If they trade up it is to beat the run on OL in the 9-16 range, and they’ll likely take one of our guys. If both of our top OT prospects are gone, I’d rather trade down (and that’s a big IF possible) and grab another second or third in the process than take Stewart at 12. If we still have eyes for him, he still could slide into the late 20’s and be there when we pick.. If not we’d be in line for one of the better WR’s or one of the top 2nd tier DT’s (Balmer). But I digress…

    I’m with you guys, hopefully we can swing Clady. If not then hopefully Williams is still on the board. If that doesent happen, then oh man……
