After months of tweaking the site redesign, tossing it out, starting it over, tossing that out, and starting over again, we’ve finally settled on a layout that fits what we want to do with our little blog. Welcome to the new, community-focused version of BroncoTalk!

About the layout

The first thing you may notice is the rotating header images, handcrafted by our own Jonathan Douglas. Each time you refresh (try it!) you’ll get a random pick of 5 banners. We plan on doing our best to keep these up to date (ahem, the Javon Walker banners may be leaving the rotation soon…).

The new site is easier on the eyes (read: less orange), but we’re still working out some kinks. For instance, our embedded poll has gone completely wacky, so we’ve taken it out until we can figure out what’s making it go Al Davis on us.

The search form is pretty handy – and for those readers in foreign countries, I’ve added translation symbols to quickly change to and from 7 languages of your choice. Most everything else is the same, albeit changed aesthetically.

The Community

The big change: only registered, logged-in users can comment on the site. Luckily we’ve made it easy for you to make sure you fall in that group.

Not a member? Click ‘Register’ in the top-left corner of the site. It only takes 2 minutes. You can then login in two ways – on the top-right login form, or in the Comments section of any post. Best of all (by popular request), logging in will now make sure you’re returned back to the page you were just viewing.

Your Opinion on the Redesign

Let me know what you think! I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on the new layout. Love it or hate it, your thoughts are the only way I’ll improve the next redesigns in the future.

Nice site design guys, I’m impressed. One thing that could make it better would be to give us full profile pages so we can post pictures and stuff.

P.S. Whoever did the Photoshop work on the top banners did a damn good job.

Very Very Nice! I’m with crosshare – that’s some good photoshopping.

I may borrow some elements of this for the design I’m currently working on. Apart from the fact that mine has to be three shades of pink and purple.

Whoa. This is significantly different than the last design I helped tweak.

Jonathan did the banners. He’s quite good at the photoshop work.

Nice! Much cleaner, much more readable. Its the same kind of quality expected with anything related to the Broncos! Thanks guys.

    Broncos for life!

Photoshop credit goes to Jonathan. You can tell the difference between our respective skills with PS when you look at the old banner compared to these new ones….

Fantastic guys, it’s definitely an improvement, I like it.

If you asked me for some constructive criticism however, I would say that having the links on both the left and right side of the page can seem a little ‘busy’ and distracting at times, but that’s about it.

I appreciate that stud. I thought so too. You’ll notice single post pages don’t have the left sidebar links

I have to agree a little with the side clutter. Also, Johnathan, you will have to point me in the direction of the method for that field gloss look you used, i like that.

I plan on tweaking the layout over the weekend, to make the left and right sidebars a better contrast to the main content area. I hope to make it a subtle change, but one that makes a difference.

I really appreciate the reader input. Thanks again guys.

Sorry, I’ve been away! Our whole family came down with the Flu and we’ve pretty much all been stuck in bed sick for over a week now. ick.

Thanks for the nice comments on the banners! I have lots more players coming… keep watching.

Crosshare, there are several good tutorials on the web that you should probably take a look at: GLOSSY BUTTONS and Web 2.0 Design. Using combinations of those, plus some football field hash mark designs, X & O play designs and a couple of brushes is all you need to make similar looks.

If you run into any trouble or have any questions, I love chatting about photoshop, so feel free to drop me an email.

10 new banners, courtesy of Jonathan Douglas! Replaced one, so now we have 14 in all. Refresh to see em all.

Cookie to whoever names all players on all banners first.

Site version 2.1 coming really soon, with several small improvements and a few moderate-major changes……
