In this article on Sportsnet, it apears as though there is a rumor going around the league that several regular season games might be played in Canada next year. One of the teams mentioned is the Denver Broncos.

There has been a widespread rumour that the NFL will award the game to Edmonton and will feature the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos, whose owner, Pat Bowlen, is an Edmonton native.

So I know this is not completely a broncos related reply, but if this is a regular season game will a team lose one of their home games?

Yes, and it would be the Patriots.

While the week-to-week schedule is not determined until the offseason, 14 of the 16 games we play are already set ahead of time (who plays where). We are schedule to play @ New England next year.

Increasing overseas interest (as well as revenue) has been discussed quite a bit this offseason. In fact I posted about it back in early May of this year (FULL POST).

The model I like best is the proposal that would turn the 4th preseason game into a regular season game. Each team would then have 8 home games, 8 away games and 1 overseas game.

This also allows the NFL to work out a full season schedule of 8 games with two oversees cities interested in hosting a year of NFL games.

I don’t know if we’ll see that kind of deep change by 2008 and all this chatter is just a rumor. However, Mr. Bowlen is a progressive owner that seems to be on the cutting edge of this league. It would not surprise me if he was involved with early tests of this type.

…and as Kyle says, IF this were to happen in 2008 and involve New England, it would be a Patriot’s home game that would be lost.
