Discuss the game here folks – from what I’ve seen of the picks, the Chargers are the favorite from all of the national media.  Let’s prove that the National Media know jack squat.

For whatever reason, I just have this gut feeling that our defense will step up today.  I don’t know why, I’m just glowing about the Broncos’ chances this week, more than since Buffalo really.

Simeon Rice is deactivated, for whatever reason.  Broncos fans have figured out by now Shanahan likes to mix it up on game day – we’ll see how this turns out.  I’ll post my thoughts from time to time, Jonathan will be hollering at the game and pelting fake fans with beer cans, and Earl might drop by with some thoughts too, so if you’re surfing the Broncos sites during the game be sure to drop by and let us know you were here!

Let’s go Broncos!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Plain and simple, we’re beating ourselves out there. We’re giving the Chargers this game.

Another fumble, another takeaway, and the Chargers are taking advantage of every minute of it.

  • BroncoFan

OK – We all know Shanny loves to shake it up during the bye week so say goodbye to our Def Coordinator. What we should do is call Marty Shottenheimer and Bill Cowher and beg one of them to take over as head coach. Fire our personnel guy, fire the master, and either one of these guys could come in and finish this season better than we will with Shanny. We need to rebuild through the draft and stop picking up all these old has beens. If you can get enough for Bailey, trade him for a couple first rounders, get rid of Lynch, and all the other old has beens like Rice etc. New coach and youth to grow up w/Cutler and all will be well.

So, I know you have been pissed about our negativity rgarding the Broncos on the message boards.

Will you now at least agree we are an awful football team?

41-3 in our house versus a team that was 1-3 coming in?

    WE SUCK!

  • TustinBronco

Oh and by the way, given how fluky our first two wins were we could EASILY be 0-5 right now. Easily.

  • TustinBronco

    FIRE MIKE SHANAHAN

  • ChampSB3233

That was embarrassing and every single player should refuse a check today.

  • embarrassedbroncofan

    Thank God for the Rockies!!!

  • BroncoFan

Agree – fire Shanahan and get someone with some imagination. He’ll make some moves in the next couple of weeks and we’ll think, ok, maybe this will work. Then we’ll pull out a game or 2 and be right back in the loss column, lucky to finish the season 8-8. No heart today. No fire. Our D was miserable. Heck, SD only has 2 players. The rest of the league has been able to figure it out but we couldn’t. Too many experiments going on for the talent we have. Blow this thing up and start from scratch building around Cutler, Marshall, and our young D-line. A new coach to build through draft vs finding has beens will also help.

The players themselves made a statement today. They are not buying into this defensive scheme.

  • http://www.pennington.net/ Mike Pennington

What does that mean… not buying into this defensive scheme? Whether they like it or not, they are paid big bucks to perform… the defense needs to tackle and it isn’t happening in too many cases. How the heck to we get run over so consistently when we put 8 in the box???????

  • Sonic

Broncos suck big time– headed back to the Red Miller days. Hey, at least Miller had a good D and kept the games close. You get the feeling this team is going to be spanked hard this season…

  • BroncoFan

Here is what that means . . . when you have a bunch of proud professionals who are being told to do something they don’t believe will work for this long, their sense of give a sh!t goes out the window. What, do you think they forgot how to tackle? Seems most of them did fine last year when our D was near the top in run D. New system – fat guys in the middle, take a great outside LB and force him to play middle, quick DE on the corners (how many sacks have they had in our 3 losses?) and no LB that can cover a good TE much less a great one like Gates (which is a problem in our division, DJ used to do ok but now that is not his job.) So, I don’t care how much money they make, when you are down by 14 early and then your O coughs up the ball on a promising drive, I’m sure it takes some wind out of the sails. We get run over w/8 in the box for the same reasons . . . bad LBs and interior lineman. Gold was great but now he’s slow. DJ should be on the outside. The other jokers aren’t worth mentioning. Lynch is slow. Bly is confused. DEs have not put ANY pressure on the QB in 3 losses. Fire Shanny for putting this mess together.

    BroncoFan,

How can you say “most of them…” when they are mostly new?? Many people agree that our front seven are where the most pain is felt… much of our secondary is the same, but front seven are missing many starters from last year… in the words of Foxworth’s blog…

I’d say one of the things right now we’re really lacking and we’re working on is just experience with each other. We have a lot of league experience, but this is the first time for a lot of us working together, and that type of experience and continuity is very valuable. I’d say comparing us to some of the teams who are really successful right now in the NFL, that’s the major difference. A lot of their players have been able to stay together for a long time and build a level of continuity, understanding and trust out there on the field. While we trust each other and we’ve been working together, we’ve had a lot of changes. We have a new defensive coordinator who has been extremely successful in the league throughout the years. We have pretty much an all-new linebacking corps, even with D.J. Williams switching positions. Our D-line is almost entirely new, full of rookies and free-agent signings, and we’ve added a brand-new corner in Dre’ Bly. We’ve added a ton of talent, but just the continuity in working together is something we need to improve upon and just be able to trust that each other is going to be where we need to be on particular plays.

  • BroncoFan

    Mike,
You counter your own argument. You say they can’t tackle and now say it is a “continuity” issue. Which is it? What I have been saying is we have the talent so it must be the scheme. Why are they all new? Because Shanny chose to “improve” the personnel. Who hired these guys? Who hired these coaches? Who blames and fires QBs, Def Coords, and other coaches like they are going through a revolving door? Doesn’t that guy deserve the blame for the current situation? Let me guess, you are still saying the D will gel and have a great second half of the season. Am I right?

I’ll say this . . . IF Shanahan does not fire anyone during this bye week and the Broncos can some how gel to play even average defense by mid-season, then I am wrong. BUT, if he fires coaches and tries to blame single players (like Hixon, who I know was not cutting it) then it is time to drop this guy and get a coach that knows how to build. He has to take responsibility.

    BroncoFan,

My argument was to counter your bizarre assertion that “Seems most of them did fine last year when our D was near the top in run D.” In fact, the current front seven mostly weren’t playing for us last year.

Furthermore, black and white thinking does not work here… there is no conflict in having both team continuity issues and a lack of tackling. I don’t care how new a team is as a whole, tackling is an individual skill.

I believe that our problem is part coaching and part player performance. I couldn’t begin to guess how much of either it is… however, I disagree with the idea that coaching is the only problem. That seems to be the main thrust of your recent arguments.

  • BroncoFan

    Mike,
You’ve got to be kidding me. No sh!t tackling is an individual skill, one that you’d think these guys have mastered to get to this level. Most of them did do fine last year whether they were on our team, on another team or in college for crying out loud (although admittedly that was not what I was referring too in that post but applies just the same.) If we had a top 10 D last year, what in the heck happened to get to this point? Hmmmmm . . . Shanahanagain!

THEN, you say it is coaching and players . . . my point exactly. Coaching is bad and who brought in the players? You guessed it, the head coach.

I’m so tired of hearing the ‘Mike has only had one losing season since he’s been here, get off his back . . . Mike brought 2 Super Bowls to Denver and is the greatest coach in NFL history . . . ‘ GIVE ME A BREAK!!! He walked into a good team, got luckier than any lotto winner in history with a class stud named Terrell Davis, wins 2 Super Bowls with the greatest QB, offensive line, and RB in NFL history and then what? Griese? Shanahanagain! Plummer? Shanahanagain! Al Wilson? Shanahanagain! Countless assistant coaches? Shanahanagain! Now that he has lost Kubiak it has been down hill ever since and will get nothing but worse and worse until he is gone. He’d be a great coach for today’s Cowboys, Colts, Patriots, Chargers but would ruin teams like the Packers, Steelers, or even the Texans. Bowlen will eventually figure it out but by then the new coach will have a complete overhaul on his hands instead of just having to make a few adjustments.

You tell me who is guilty of “black and white thinking” now.
