The future for Denver’s veteran LG is in question. Today, the Broncos announced that Ben Hamilton would be held out of football for two additional weeks while he continues to heal from his training camp concussion.

This is not good news.

Hamilton has been out much longer than anyone expected, but many fans thought this was just precautionary, as they were keeping him safe for the season opener versus the Bills. However, today’s news is much graver. Rather than the team doctors just playing it safe during the preseason action, this is a specialist telling Hamilton he’s not ready to clear him to play (or do conditioning work) until he sees improvement. A return visit won’t happen for two weeks.

“The thing is, a specialist in Pittsburgh recommended that he not do anything for two weeks, to stay away from any type of conditioning. That’s where we’re at right now. He’s not going to do anything for two weeks, and after two weeks, they’ll evaluate him again and give a recommendation.” — Mike Shanahan 9/4/07

For our team, this is especially tough as we watch another veteran leader sidelined by head or neck injuries.

Let’s just hope and pray that Hamilton’s injuries aren’t serious enough to end his career or cause him permanent damage.
