Tuesday, inside linebacker Jeremiah Trotter was released by the Philadelphia Eagles. The move reminded a lot of people of the Broncos’ decision to release Al Wilson earlier this year – a veteran leader on the field, let go for injury concerns to the dismay of the fans.

I’ve been scanning some of the forums and news outlets and I’ve noticed a trend – you may have even seen the sidebar story from Yahoo! on the BroncoTalk news feed – that the idea of Trotter heading to Denver is catching fire, and in big ways. First, the Denver Post mentioned a possible interest at the very bottom of this news article. This moved Yahoo! to post it as the article you can find to the right.

OK… speculation is speculation. But when I start hearing Broncos fans saying that Trotter was on a radio interview in Philadelphia, saying he would sign with the Broncos, and that money wasn’t an issue; jokingly saying he would look good in the orange and blue – I start to listen. According to this fan, he also said he spoke to Al Wilson and Wilson glowed about playing for the Broncos.

I asked one of my favorite bloggers, Matt Mosley over at Hashmarks if he had heard anything. He just thanked me and said he would “get the bottom of it.” ESPN’s NFL blogger, with a history as an NFL writer (even if it was for the Cowboys), has a lot more connections than I do, so we’ll see.

As of right now, it’s being reported that Trotter will visit the Bucs tomorrow, but if what I heard about a radio interview in Philly is true, then Trotter may be visiting (and hopefully signing) with the Broncos soon. I would love the leadership he would bring, and would really get behind making this move.

What do you think, Broncos nation? Do you want Trotter?

I want a pass rush from the D-Line. Everything else from the LB’s will take care of itself, as far as I’m concerned.

I like the idea of it from the leadership perspective, but I am a Broncofan livin in Philly for the last several years and have been here for the tail end of Trotter’s physical contributions. That said, his leadership contributions could be huge, but I still see it as a short-sighted patchwork fix. If your acknowleging that DJ is better suited on the outside, then let Webster or Lewis man the Mike and move DJ back outside where he belongs. Any way you slice it, this is a rebuilding year for the broncos defensively and the first two picks in next years draft should be Linebacker/Safety or LB/OL if Abdullah shows us something.

I’d much rather see the money and time paid to repairing our pass rush than adding depth to the LB corps.

I would imagine that his cap number won’t be something Denver can handle… but Shanahan & Co. have surprised me in the past!

I have been a Nate Webster fan since they signed him. I think he will be the fire to D.J.’s ice. So I’m hoping to see him win the SAM. Philly knows when to let a guy go. I would rather steer clear.
