In hugely surprising news, the Denver Broncos have been reportedly mentioning Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler in numerous trade discussions since free agency began yesterday.

The talks reportedly began when the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were working on a three-way trade that would have sent Cutler to the Bucs and quateback Matt Cassel to the Broncos. The Broncos opted out of the trade before the Detroit Lions approached Denver and New England with a similar trade. The trade talks became a moot point when Cassel was traded to the Chiefs early Saturday instead.

There are conflicting reports regarding the nature of the trade talks. Vic Lombardi of CBS4 Denver claims that the Broncos are “actively trying to shop” Cutler. Adam Schefter of NFL.com reports that the Broncos “firmly maintain that they never intended to trade Cutler, (and) that they were approached to make the trades.”

Both Schefter and Lombardi have spoken to Cutler and report that he’s upset at the rumors. Here’s what Cutler told Lombardi:

“I’ve heard the rumors. I know what they’re trying to do. Even though I love Denver and I’d love to remain a Bronco, I know how this business works. If they want me to play somewhere else, so be it.”

I am simply floored. I can’t believe the Broncos are entertaining offers for Cutler, and I would be devastated if they were actively shopping him. Hopefully this all blows over soon…

Wow OC Bronco how could you possibly say such a thing Jay Cutler is only been in the league three years and went to his first pro bowl he threw for over 4500 yards and 25 tds. Im just curious what do you want in a quarterback. do you want him to throw 200 yards! Jay cutler is at least top 5 qbs in the league. How could you possibly want a new qb. Do you want Jake Plummer back??? Josh really needs to take a step back and think does he really want to get rid of denver broncos franchise quarterback. The signing of brian dawkings shows that Mike nolan is trying to repair this damaged defense and with denvers luck as soon as our defense is tough well go and get rid of our Star qb. And this franchise will never reach the promise land ever again. Pat Bowlin will never allow such a thing i would hope. He invested money and time into Cutler and its played out with a pro bowl and a bright future but what ever Josh just trade him to Detroit so you will throw away all denver broncos fans hope for another John Elway to emerge.

Who is out there that is better than J? NO ONE!!!

  • RLE

Cutler has a lot of growing up to do. He is certainly a primadonna who needs a little kick in the butt to speed up the maturation process.

  • DB Soldier

“Who is out there that is better than J? NO ONE!!!”?

    Peyton
    Brady
    Brees
    Cutler
    McNabb

    Top 5 in that order.

I got Cassell in at 16….

  • ryan

OC have you been hanging out with Amy Winehouse? McDaniels is the one who needs to get with the program. You don’t show up to your first head coaching job and try to trade the team’s best player who is just begining to reach his prime, at the most important position in the NFL.

We could have hired Al Davis as coach and he would not have messed up this bad. I challenge you to tell me any QB in the NFL right now that is under 30 and you would rather have. I’ll wait… Maybe your thinking Big Ben, but that is about it.

Were still paying Shanahan so if McDaniels wants to shoot the franchise in the foot…

Plus I imagine that if this would have gone up to Bowlen’s desk he would photopcopied his middle finger and sent it back to Xanders and McDaniels.

  • http://DenverBroncos.com Big Lee

If McDaniels is thinking of trading Cutler I would Hope Pat will show McDaniels the Door the way he did dan for trying to trade #7 I will Boycott the Broncos Till I Die GO!!!! Back TO New England AND CHEAT!!! YOUR WAY TO SOME MORE SUPERBOWL,S WE WANT THEM HONEST IN DENVER. BIG LEE

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Do you guys think that Bowlen will come out and say something about this situation?? I hope it would look like this “Sorry Jay, and fellow bronco fans, for I have hired a dumbass. He tried to trade Jay Cutler, the man himself. He is acting like a real McAsshole. He will be demoted from HC to OC and Nolan will be taking the role of HC” That would make my day…

  • Curt

Bowlen get ready to give season ticket refunds back, and I will never watch another bronco game again or go to one. this is the dumd’st thing I have seen if you want to be the raiders then I guess this is a smart move. Become a losing franchise!

  • NathanH

This is all gonna blow over and all you guys are getting upset for no reason. No point in getting all worked up unless Jay’s still upset come mini camps.

  • Ryan

If Denver trades Cutler, I would be forced to stop routing for my team I loved my entire life.
I DO NOT want a New England team here in Denver.
There is NO WAY I will support this coaching staff and/or team without Jay

    “Jay the fans love you”

  • robtink242

Kerry’s so right this Bull**** needs to be address quickly. you guys dont realize the pull cutler has on the team. with MARSHALL, ROYAL, CASEY and TONY. MR. Bowlen needs to put his foot down NOW.

  • stav

I can’t understand why Bowlen hasn’t released a statement yet, the longer he waits the more BS gets stirred by the media. ESPN/Mortenson makes it sound like the Broncos were doing the shopping and Schefter on NFL says they were contacted with this. I have to think that the NFL Network has better contacts/info over ESPN especially as Mortensen pretty much believes everything he’s told anyway. There’s no way I can think that Bowlen would OK a Cutler for Cassel deal, who would? Completely different levels of talent, incomparable. How about the old chemistry thing? This just makes no sense for Denver to seek out this trade. One point that McD, or McMoron if the rumors are true, pointed out, regardless of whoever initiated the proposal, the NE link for McD just looks bad for this. You can easily see how the media would bridge this to him even if they couldn’t verify all the facts. But most importantly, Mr Bowlen, open your mouth and end all this BS!

  • OC Bronco

CJ and Ryan- Your loyalty has to be to the team not the qb. We don’t know what’s behind this situation but we all take about Jay throwing for 4500+ – Of course you will when you throw the ball nealry 40 times a game. You think Elway wouldn’t have done that if he got to fling the ball around.
Anyway, I like Cutler’s million dollar talent but he may have a 10 cent head.
btw – love the winehouse comment…

  • Eternalrealness

Are the broncos crazy? How in the hell could they trry to trade Jay. he has the best up side of any quaterback they have brought in denver since big John(7). An for Matt cassell? Trustt there is a reason he’s been sitting on the bench since High school. An if they trade jay they never have to worry about my being a bronco fan because that is just Nutts!

  • ryan

    OC-

My loyalty is and has always been to the Broncos, but my point still stands. YOU CANNOT trade arguably the best young QB in the NFL with as much God given talent as anyone, just because you want to work with a guy who has had one good season.

My argument was not based on my love for Jay, it was because he is our BEST player at the most important position. Yes he is young and immature, but give him time.

  • CJ

Ryan makes sense Peyton Manning and alot of great qbs come into this league hot headed. There is no way Josh could possibly get rid of Cutler and most fans agree with the decision

I have loved the denver broncos ever since i was a kid and that was a long time ago and i havent seen a qb with this type of natural talent since Elway. And im sorory OC that excites me. You couldnt tell me right now that denver would have traded Elway right in mist of his prime.

  • Derek09

I am a Bronco fan. I always have been and always will be, but that being said, if we trade Jay Josh McDaniels loses my support and untill JOSH is GONE the Broncos lose my money. This is crap. Jay Cutler deserves better than to be treated like some second stringer. Matt Cassel is a glorified 2nd stringer. Second stringer……Pro bowler? I think I’ll take the latter.

  • Derek09

Actively pettitioning for Mcdumba$$ to be ousted!!!!!!!!!
Games over young man, don’t underestimate how passionate Denver fans are about this team. We were here before you were and we will be here long after you get shit canned.

  • elwade

I would understand if Jay Cutler would be disappointed and I also do not want him to go but in his business if he is not traded that he would want to show them they would not talk of this ever again by going out and being the quarterback everybody would want by playing like he is capable of. The management was totally out of line and, quite frankly stupid on this one for not having enough foresight to see the fallout from this trade talk. Next time there is a coaching change don’t have them experiment on this team.

  • Payton

all i have to say is do something now if McDaniels wont clear up this mess some one has to if he dosent we should march down to his office and force McDaniels and the GM to talk to them and if that dosent work we should go tell Cutler our selves that we dont need him leaving people we run Denver so all we need to do is to email Cutlers agent and get this problem fixed once and for all cause we took an oath to be a Bronco fan we have a certficate saying so that means we need to step up and do our part people so are we going to or not Denver Bronco fans or are we going to sit on our computers and talk lets act now or lose our Franchise quarter people LETS ACT NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • CJ

    Payton-

Relax dude you are seriously going to get this upset over rumors. Adam Schefter reported teams contacted denver and they declined. Jay Cutler is upset. Denver broncos control his future. Jay doesnt. if Adam Schefter is right like always Jay is not going anywhere.

  • popatop

jay leave, go where you will be respected more and not stabbed in the back like you have been with this sorry org.

  • lswon1

I guess McD is too young to remember what happened in Denver the last time a popular QB and Coach butted heads. He should give Dan Reaves a call and ask what the response from the fans will be.

Cutler needs to relax a bit though. The fans are behind him, and isnt that what matters?

  • champ2203

I realize we don’t all make millions of dollars at work like pro atheletes but just for a minute imagine you bust your ass at work everyday and become the a supervisor or manager running all the employees. You do the impossible and gain respect even from those who absolutely loved and admired a previous employee at your position(Elway) A new owner comes in tells you your definately part of the companies future plans then you find out that the new owner was trying to get rid of you for someone he used to work with and all you’ve worked for is now in the garbage. The deal doesn’t go through but you find out about the whole thing and now know that your boss has no respect for you or your abilities. You ask to leave and they say they didn’t try to get rid of you(LIE) and tell you that you cannot explore your options elsewhere. Wouldn’t your work ethic, drive, and productivity go into the toilet? Yes it would. Wouldn’t you feel like you’ve been painted into a corner? Yes you would. So all of you on here that keep saying ” what is everyone worried about he didn’t get traded and he’s not going anywhere” THATS EXACTLY WHAT WE’RE WORRIED ABOUT. Yea he’s still here, But is he really still here mentally(which is most important). Does he really even give a shit anymore. From what i’ve heard it doesn’t really sound like he does. And that’s a problem.

  • Jason G

Its all a plan by Mike S. and Cutler to rejoin somewhere down the road. Cutler isn’t loyal to the Broncos, he’s loysl to Mike S. Cutler is picking his battles so it will be easy for him to get traded whereever Mike lands. Its an end of a Brocos era, and they will lose many fans because of Bowlen, Xanders, and McDaniels. I think we’ll see Cutler and Mike S in Dallas next year.

  • jj

What a total spin ,Cutlers here for past 2 weeks seeing coaches. He goes to Nashville then hes being traded,Now he wanted to be traded bc of Bates,PLEASE.The rookie got caught shopping his ace man up.

  • jj

To resolve the problem is easy ,front office screwed up so get your checkbook out and give Jay a long term deal with some big money!

Just go ask the Green Bay Packers how many fans the’yve alienated, lost due to the Farve situation! I live in Wisconsin. One year rooting like MAD Dogs in the NFC Championship GAME, Next YEAR rooting for them losers to go 6-10!

Anyway, Love the Broncos, don’t live in Denver but gotta love the players on the team, not the Team in the City!

  • 55CJ55

I have lost alot of respect for McD (not that I had alot in the first place). Trying to trade your franchise QB for a guy you worked with for a couple years who isn’t exactly a proven guy (first full season since high school) is complete BS. I can’t beleive that Bowlen would let this go on. McD needs to learn that he isn’t going to get anybody better than Cutler. I don’t know why he would want Castle over Cutler in th first place. I mean yeah Jay is 17-20 as a starter but he hasn’t really been around a good supporting cast now has he? The defense has been terrible for quit a while and the lack of quality running backs the past couple of years hasn’t helped much. I hope Jay stays here, If the defense improves and we can get a good back here then the pieces to get back to the playoffs will be in place.

  • Mark

I just can’t believe this. Trade Cutler? A newbie coach that has done nothing for us is going to send Cutler packing for Cassle? I can see it now, McDaniels is going to be in Denver for 2 years and leave us with a weak arm mediocre quarterback for years to come. I don’t care what McDaniels says – he tried to trade Cutler and everyone knows it. Now other teams that need a quarterback can smell blood in the water… Is it too late to fire the coach?

  • Go Vikes

We would welcome him in Minnesota with open arms. What are the Broncos thinking??? COME BE A VIKE JAY!!!!!

  • John

I am not impressed with Culter yet! He has great stats but loses games and has tons of turn overs. I was not upset when I heard the news and would not mind giving Matt a try. But that is over now and we are stuck with cutler. That boy better grow up and win us a super bowl very soon. He needs to prove himself still. Don’t be fooled by the status.

  • Mull hogg

I hope these rumors are true and jay comes a little futher east to MN. With Cutler the vikes would be favs to win superbowl next year. Great D fense, ap of course, and pick up WR like percy harvin in first round to go with berrian, cutler would have a hayday.

  • 55CJ55

Cutler will never be a Viking…You guys don’teven have what it would take for Denver to send him there…guess your stuck with Feurotte

  • 55CJ55

Peyton dude….hahahahahahaha….you may have given me the best laugh of my life…you need to calm down man…Cutler isnt gonna listen to us even if we hahahahahaha march down and demand they talk or hahahaha email Bus Cook.

  • CStock66

I think McDumbass is the one to blame. He tried to come into a new franchise and trade his beloved franchise quarterback for his hubby one year wonder, Matt Cassel. That is a terrible pr move as most Denver fans love Cutler. This guy is so full of the Patriots its insane. First he gets rid of a perfect long snapper for a patriot long snapper which shows how ignorant he is. He also picks up any patriot he can even if they are unneeded. We might as well be called the ex patriot broncos. Cutler has a right to angry as his current back up is making 3 time the amount he is. Chris Simms should have never started at Texas, Applewhite was way better. They brought Applewhite in whenever they were about to lose and he would bring them back to win or come close. I think its time to give cutler a new contract and take Mcdaniels out back and put him down.

John Elways kid is more grown up then jaybaby
