Coming off a bye week, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is 1-3 in the playoffs.

In postseason games where the temperature at kickoff is below 40 degrees, Manning is 0-3.  On Saturday, there will be a high of 19 degrees.

Things are different now.  All three of those cold losses came on the road over seven years ago.  Peyton will be playing at home this week, with his trusty glove.

Perhaps more importantly, Manning has a strong supporting cast around him on offense and probably the best defense he has ever played with.  On Saturday, history will be thrown out the window.

“Forget about rest, forget about seeds, forget about who you played, when, where,” Coach John Fox told DenverBroncos.com on Monday. “It’s going to be who plays the best this Saturday night, or Saturday afternoon.”

Does Manning’s 9-10 playoff record and cold weather history make you uneasy?  Or are you confident in the older, wiser Manning?

I’m betting Peyton is taking advantage of the opportunity to practice playing in this weather. Am I right? To me, that makes a difference. He hasn’t been playing his home games in a dome and that, to me, could help with the adjustment.

Part of it also is that 2 of the 3 were in Foxboro to I believe the eventual SuperBowl Champion Patriots. Whether it was 30 degrees or 70 degrees, the Colts probably lose those games.
I think too much is put on the temperature. Besides, as you said, he used the last 2 weeks of games (i.e. extended training camp) to “practice” wearing a glove during a game.

I think being in Denver, having practiced in the cold for weeks, and having a much more solid defense will absolutely help buck this trend for Manning. I know the Broncos could very well be behind at half, but the altitude and the fact that the Broncos are one of the best second half teams in the league will push them over the top for a win. I just can’t see the Ravens having enough in the tank to pull out an upset.

John Elway was 0-3 in Super Bowls before he won two in a row.

I don’t see a problem with it. With the last two games at home and with the off week and this week to play and practice in Denver in December and early January he will be okay with it. They all have to play in the same weather conditions on Saturday. The only difference might be a slightly lower score for both teams as the skill players could have problems with ball control with colder and harder hands. But if they wear gloves as they usually do, it may be minimal. They are healthy and itching to play and have the focus and intensity to go out and bring us victory in this game!

    Touché.

The problem wasn’t the losing it was the 17 combined points in the three games. He played absolutely atrocious in all 3 games. It wasn’t like he played ok and they still lost.

As you and many others have stated though, he’s had several weeks of cold weather to prepare for it. On top of that, this is the best defense he has ever had on his side.

In the playoffs Manning is 2-0 (maybe even 3-0 I’m too lazy to look) when one of the teams on the field is the Denver Broncos

    Brilliant.

He also got no help from his running game or run defense in any of those match ups. James had 78 and 39 yards total in both losses to New England while against the Jets the Colts had 36 yards rushing for the game. The Colts defense gave up an average of 167 yards rushing in each of those three losses. It’s very hard to win in cold weather conditions when your offense can’t run the ball and your defense can’t stop the run. Granted Manning played like crap in two of those games, Jets 2002 NE 2003, but two of the losses saw his opponent have the ball for over 40 minutes. If Denver’s Defense plays like it has all year and we can run the ball on Baltimore than we should win the game.
