SECOND TEAM OFFENSE
Caleb Hanie is the second quarterback on the depth chart, and The Denver Post speculates he and the second team offense will play the rest of the first half. Hanie is the only backup quarterback on the Broncos’ roster with NFL game experience, but with a career quarterback rating of 41.8, he has definitely left something to be desired thus far in his career. (Just ask Bears fans).
The most interesting position battle to watch on the second team will be running back. Ronnie Hillman isn’t expected to play, so if Knowshon Moreno suits up it will be he vs. Lance Ball for what could very well be the team’s third running back roster spot. Either may get snaps with the first team as well.
On the offensive line, Ryan Harris needs to impress at left tackle, while the interior is potentially in-flux. Center C.J. Davis will be trying to hold off rookie Philip Blake, so keep an eye on him.
SECOND TEAM DEFENSE
This is where Broncos fans will get to see the most of rookie Derek Wolfe, as the team’s top draft pick has been lined up at left defensive end on the second team since the start of camp. Wolfe’s had a number of hurries, sacks, and batted down passes from the spot, something that has caught the eye of one his frequent victims, teammate Brock Osweiler.
“Derek’s a monster,” Osweiler said. “He’s really making our offensive line work hard. He’s coming off the edge strong.”
The depth at linebacker will also be worth watching. Danny Trevathan has seen some first-team practice reps, so watch how he does come game time, while Steven Johnson has been one of the more impressive rookies at camp. Finally, keep on eye on Robert Ayers for that potentially fire-lit ass.
