The Denver Broncos concluded their final session of a four-day offseason minicamp on Thursday.  Here are some quick hits on today’s events:

Participation report — Offensive guard Chris Kuper (ankle) and tight end Julius Thomas (ankle) did not practice and kicker Matt Prater (seeking a new contract) was not present.

Fox expects Prater back by July 26th — Coach John Fox said after practice on Thursday that he expects Prater will be signed by training camp, which is expected to begin on July 26th.  The Broncos and Prater are reportedly negotiating a five-year deal.  Fox also expects players to show up to training camp in excellent physical condition.

Injury report — Nothing new to report.  Running back Knowshon Moreno is recovering from an ACL injury and has progressively participated more in each practice session.  Fellow running back Mario Fannin is also recovering from an ACL injury while Kuper and Thomas continue to rehab.

Bailey feels like he’s 22 — Cornerback Champ Bailey, who is about to enter his fourteenth season in the NFL, said he feels as good as he did when he was 23 years old after practice today.  Bailey went on to say that he could run a sub-4.4 forty-yard dash after preparing two weeks in advance.

Rookie Roundup — Quarterback Brock Osweiler got more repetitions today than usual and looked the smoothest among the backup quarterbacks. Osweiler connected with his college teammate, rookie wide receiver Gerrel Robinson, on a nice fade pass during goal line drills.

Photos – Check out a photo album from today’s practice on BroncoTalk’s Facebook page.  Be sure to also Create-a-Caption for this image.

Miscellaneous notes — Safety Rahim Moore, who has been rotating in and out of the first team defense with Quinton Carter, was starting across from Mike Adams in the secondary for the second time in three days… Second year cornerback Chris Harris, who has been the No. 3 cornerback this summer, was jumped by Drayton Florence and moved to the No. 4 cornerback… Quarterback Peyton Manning has developed a nice connection with tight end Joel Dreessen, who has been the co-No. 1 tight end with Jacob Tamme during camp.

And that’s a wrap for minicamp.  The team now has a six-week break before coming back to Denver for training camp in late July.

I think for the first time since 1997 our team as a whole actually believes that the superbowl is the goal, and you can see it with how much fun they look like they are having, and how invigorated everyone seems to be.

While its true that every year, everyone always gives lip service to “our goal is to win the superbowl” type talk, This is the first time since Elway retired that you can actually physically see people believing that statement instead of just speaking it. The lightheartedness, fun, intensity, camaraderie are at a level that we just haven’t seen in 14 years. Amazing how 1 player who everyone has confidence in can bring such belief to the team.

Whether we win the division, win a playoff game, or win the superbowl, this team truly believes that they are contenders. In this game of football, where the difference between the best and worst team’s talent level is nil, this special belief, special mindset that we now have can override talent, override luck, and override schedule. We are as convinced now as we were then that we are superbowl bound. That special “it” that our team possesses (not just 1 player) paved the way for us then, just like we all believe that it will pave the way for us now!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

    Well said.

I love the breakdowns the team is doing before and after practices now, I’ve never seen them do that during the summer before. I’ve seen (video of) Brandon Stokley and Peyton Manning leading it — it’s nice to see players filling the motivational and pump-up role that was vacaded by Brian Dawkins’ retirement.

    Amen!
They have an aura around them. I bet the vets like Champ are saying to themselves “I’m finally not lying when I tell the media that I’m with this team in order to win a Championship.”
