5. Adam Weber the #2 QB; Rookie Osweiler #4
Remember those “insider” reports a training camp ago that suggested Adam Weber should have been higher on the depth chart than Tim Tebow, who ultimately started for the Broncos in 2011? Funny how things work out.
Weber, then relegated to the practice squad as the #4 option, is the only quarterback from the 2011 Broncos roster left.
His current position in Broncos practice reflects that. He’s #2, with Caleb Hanie third-string, and rookie Brock Osweiler making up the tail of the QB food chain. Manning insists there’s “open communication” between all QB’s, but wouldn’t lend a scouting critique on the Broncos rookie.
“We’ve had one practice so far, so it’s hard to give too early of an evaluation. I know he’s excited to be here,” Manning said. “I can remember that feeling I had as a rookie quarterback, being a high draft choice like he was. He’s excited. Certainly it seems like he’s got an excellent work ethic, and he’s got a ton of ability, there’s no question about that. These repetitions will be excellent for him, as they will for [QB] Caleb [Hanie] and [QB] Adam [Weber] and all the quarterbacks.”
Expect Osweiler to ultimately take over the reigns as #2 QB by camp’s end, although nothing’s for certain.
