The mock drafts of Mike Mayock, Mel Kiper, Jr., and Todd McShay have all been updated to their final versions (or, in the case of Mayock, his first and only version). One thing is clear, the experts agree: the Denver Broncos should draft a defensive tackle.
But none of them agree on the player. Check it out —
25. Denver Broncos — Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
I’ve been trying to find a spot for him since pick No. 11 with the Chiefs. The Broncos need a guy who can come in and play inside. At 350 pounds with movement skills like Haloti Ngata, Poe is the guy. On third down, when most defensive tackles are out of the game, Poe will be at his most effective. (Video).
25. Denver Broncos — Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut
The Broncos should take the best available interior defensive lineman, and I know they like Reyes, a great player against the run who fits any scheme.
25. Denver Broncos — Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State
Note: McShay posted a subsequent update — first round only — and has the Broncos drafting RB Doug Martin instead.
Analysis: There’s no consensus at the defensive tackle position. So, if a bunch are falling, why use Pick #25 on that position? I only see the Broncos drafting a guy if he is clearly a cut above the next DT on their board. My gut tells me that would be Worthy assuming Fletcher Cox, Poe, and Michael Brockers are all off the board. If more than one is available, try to trade down or roll the dice on a good DT being available in Round 2.
