Round Four part two

120. Mike Martin, DT, Michigan

Despite being a former high school wrestling and shot put state champion, Martin is considered to be undersized by some scouts (6’1 306).

Martin is not known as a pass rusher, but on the Broncos defensive line he doesn’t have to be.

The Broncos desperately need a big bodied defensive tackle who can plug up space. Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil get to have all of the fun.

Pat Kirwan‘s quote of Martin perfectly sums it all up. “Some say he doesn’t have pass-rush skills, but then how does he have more sacks than Dontari Poe, Michael Brokers, and Josh Chapman combined? He’s a football player!

One of the major weaknesses of the Broncos defense last year was their run defense. Darren McFadden, Ryan Matthews, C.J. Spiller, and even Aaron Hernandez ran all over the Broncos last season.

With the experience and balance of a wrestler, you seldom see Martin flopping on the ground. Martin has true man strength, and would provide that needed push in the middle that the Broncos are missing.

A recipient of the Richard Katcher award (Michigan’s best defensive linemen award) two seasons in a row, Mike Martin is one of those typical high character, high motor players that the Broncos seek on draft day.

Other Possibilities: Florida’s defensive tackle Jaye Howard (6’3 235, 4.82 forty) is an interesting prospect, but if Martin is available he should be the pick.
