Round One

25. Doug Martin, RB, Boise State

The Broncos have serious wounds on the defensive line, but they won’t succumb to reaching to fill the need.

Much to the chagrin of the fan-base, the Broncos will look to the later rounds to draft defensive line talent. Fortunately for the fan-base, the 2012 draft is full of defensive line talent.

With Peyton Manning on the roster the Broncos are now in a sprint for the Super Bowl. One area that looks great on paper but could use some reinforcement is the running game.

Willis McGahee showed no age spots during his Pro Bowl year, but 30 year old running backs make a coaching staff feel a bit uneasy. John Fox has also shown that he is no stranger to taking running backs in the first round.

Doug Martin had one heck of a career at Boise State. With back to back seasons of over 1,200 rushing yards (1,260 in 2010 and 1,299 in 2011) and 43 rushing touchdowns in his last three seasons, it’s safe to say Martin knows how to get it done on the turf.

Due to a low center of gravity, soft hands, and the make of a body builder, Martin is available on all downs. Scouts have compared Martin to Ray Rice.

Make no mistakes about it, the Broncos are in a sprint to the Super Bowl. Selecting an instant contributor like Doug Martin can go a long way in winning the AFC West.

Other Possibilities: The Broncos could go for a defensive tackle here like Devon Still or Jerel Worthy is they feel like they can make an impact on day one. Another option would be Kendall Wright at receiver if he’s still available. Perhaps the Broncos will get lucky and Michael Brockers will fall.

I’m not sure they go with Osweiler.  The Broncos are in the “win it now” phase and don’t have the luxury of wasting a pick on a developmental player.  I would be happy with the rest of your draft though.  I like Mike Martin a lot.

for some reason i just cant see osweiler lasting until we pick in the third, in fact i can see him gone by our second round pick.

here’s a quandry, what if we pick a dt in the first round- say brockers… and we get to our pick and another one is there that we had our eye on at 25… say someone like reyes is still there?  double down on dt?

I would not disagree with any of your picks, but I also think that if you are looking for a dark horse in the 4-6 rounds,   Bobby Wagner, the LB from Utah might be a possibility.  especially if they trade down to get two picks in the 2nd.   I also like the Wolfe pick, I think he is going to be a good player, maybe better than Stills or Worthy.

Opps, return key error.  I also think that there is wisdom in Jebow’s thoughts on the QB.  If they have a chance to get a good DB in there, that is a real possibility.  depends on how they view the future.  Can’t wait to see what happens, I have no idea. Last year I picked 1 name, Rahime Moore, and got him in the wrong round, ( pure luck) so what do I know

Great read and interesting choices! . . . Martin at #120 is a real eye-popper . . . might think of taking him at #108.

I really like Bobby Wagner and I was thinking about slotting him too.

    I do love Martin.

You never see him fall on the ground, his center of balance is amazing.

Great picks first mock draft I liked and first one to pick best player on the board and not draft outta need. Again great picks hopefully we can have it go like this.
