There have been conflicting reports about whether Tim Tebow was given a choice between the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars when the Denver Broncos were actively trading the quarterback last week. The Broncos reportedly said they gave him the choice; Tebow’s camp denied such reports.

Sports Illustrated‘s Peter King offers some logical clarification:

Tebow and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, absolutely had a choice on where the Broncos would trade Tebow, despite Tebow’s statement that only Denver controlled that. The Jags had a better fourth-round pick on the table than the Jets were offering — by seven draft slots. The Jags were offering $500,000 more than the Jets in compensation for the advances paid on his contract. But Denver was willing to deal Tebow to either team. And it was a very difficult choice for the young quarterback, because he is from Jacksonville. But the decision made sense. The Jets wanted him more, and would use him more, ostensibly. It’s simple.

So while fans may continue to bash John Elway for Tebow’s exit from Dove Valley, they did a pretty classy thing in giving Tebow a choice between franchises: a move most other clubs wouldn’t mirror, and one that cost the Broncos $500k.

Monty, don’t try and use logic when setting the record straight.  The Timmy fans are so blinded and ignorant, they won’t believe a word you say.

Tebow’s NYJ press conference is in 20 minutes. Wonder if anything interesting comes of it.

I think we’re seeing Timmy being exactly who he is.

Bet the question “Why did you pick NY over Jax” will be asked.

  • Anonymous

Tebow has maintained that football is “just a game”, and that at the end of the day, his ultimate goal is to make the world a better place, help kids, praise God, etc… and that football is simply something he loves doing, not his life.

Knowing that, is it any wonder that he chose NYC? If his ultimate goal is to “spread The word”, then what better city to spread the word in than NYC which is the media capital of the world? Tebow is sticking to his morals by choosing NYC, because he’s never said that Football is #1, his “message” is #2. He’s always said: Message #1, Football #2. Going to NYC means he’s true to his word. Going to Jax means he’s putting something else in front of his “message.”

While I wanted to see the Broncos give Tebow an honest to God chance to develop (#1 in offseason, camps, regular season), the more I listen to Tebow talk, the more I’m convinced that Elway did the right thing in shipping him out of here. If Tebow will never put football first, then as a manager of the football team, Elway needs to find someone who will put football first. Peyton Manning puts football first, and it shows in his play. As much as I hate to do it, I need to eat crow at the hands of jdkchem for our many back and forths a few weeks ago.

Manning is better for our team because he’ll put the team and football first. Tebow puts everything in front of the team, and appears to only plays football because it supports his “platform” on which to spread his message.

    Like, the 1st question. haha.
As many of us (me included) predicted, Tebow and Elway were both telling the truth, cause ultimately, the Broncos choose where he goes, but we all figured that they asked Tebow his thoughts on the places he might go to.

It isn’t hard to predict that Tebow would say good things about both and then defer to the Broncos to make his decision for him. This could be his undoing, because he never wants to make a decision for himself. He’s always having everyone but him make his decisions.

Nope.  Sorry, King.  John Elway sent Tebow to live with the sodomites and leftists because he’s an arrogant, spiteful liar who couldn’t handle having Tebow in town becaue he’s scared of someone outshining him in the fans eyes…

    hurrr, durrr….I’m a complete moron!!11!!!

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Did you watch? It was the first question…

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Tebow had a great quote towards the end about wishing the Broncos and Manning the best and not having any admonitory towards the team (trying to find the quote), his fans could learn from him.

Setting the football aspect of “Tebowmania aside for the moment, during today’s press conference at the NY Jet’s facility, it has become crystal clear, in the mind of this blogger at least, just how big of a loss to the Broncos’ community we have suffered letting Tebow get away.

Taking nothing away from his football critics, you simply can not deny what a tremendous loss to the city, state and larger Broncos’ Country, we have suffered.  This alone is reason enough for the debate to go on.  And it will!

Assessing his words during the news conference, it seems as though the principle factor he is in New York (NJ) is because of his prior relationship with Sparano and Ryan and lack of it with Mularkey and the other coaches at Jacksonville.  That is about as close as we are going to get to him saying he chose the Jets over the Jags.

Putting the football back on the main burner, there is NO ONE who has mainline information on how the future will transpire, or how Tebow’s passing game will fare in the Big Apple, or how Manning’s health will maintain, or how Tebow’s replacements in Denver will do.

The debate will continue… and so will both organizations.  As always, the game itself will be settled on the field and along with it, so should all of the rancor.  (But I doubt it!)

Football is never #1 for any pro athlete. That’s the crap they feed the fans to make themselves more loved and help put pressure on organizations to up their contracts.

Their contracts are always put before football. Their families, at least for most of them not named Cromartie (who failed to recall all of his children’s names in an interview) come before football.

I have a serious issue with people saying Tebow puts things that REALLY ARE more important than football, in front of football.

    1. Who gives a damn what he puts in front of football if he is still working as hard as anyone else? That’s just illogical.

    2. That kind of unbelievably rare character is exactly why magical things seem to continually happen around him. He walks the talk and people (like Champ Bailey) 100% buy into it and play harder when he is on the field (Champ’s very own admission).

    Yeah, I watched.
The 1st question was actually about the Elway/Tebow conflicting reports. Tebow admitted that they asked him for input on each destination, and he gave them input, but ultimately, Denver was the one making the decisions.

I think the “why did you pick NY over Jax” was like the 3rd or 4th question. And yes, it was asked just like that… point blank.

Apparently it is for Peyton Manning!
He turned down (reportedly) less money from the Titans, AND he made sure that there were injury outs for the Broncos. See, he wants to play so bad, that he put the contract to the side, and even insisted that there were multiple outs for the Broncos. That is putting football 1st.

What I meant with my post is that teammates, coaches, execs, fans, everyone, wants to see their QB take a loss hard. What I mean by that is that in these losses, Tebow shrugged them off as if he forgot to floss his teeth. This started rubbing teammates the wrong way. Teammates were pissed that they lost. They had that fire in their eyes that they were gonna use that pain to get better. What did Tebow do? He said that it’s only a game, and not that big of a deal. While that may be true (as you’re pointing out), that’s not what anyone, teammates included, wanted to hear. Tebow may very well have been the hardest worker on the team, but when his teammates were using the loss as extra fuel for  getting better, Tebow just went on as if it was business as usual. Maybe that’s why he never really got any better as the season went on? We know he works hard, but where is that “extra” that comes from the agony of defeat, and the pursuit to never taste that again?

I think that if Tebow spent half the time he does beating oversized tires with a sledge hammer, and instead, studied the mental side of the game, he’d be much improved. I think it’s the “between the ears” aspect of the position that Tebow lacks. He can overcome mechanics and footwork simply by raising his football IQ. Reading defenses, knowing where and when a WR/TE/RB is suppose to be and then anticipating it, those are what he lacks. His mechanics in my opinion are fine. Golfers have different swings, and QBs have different motions. If Tebow has a long motion, but through repetitions, knows when and where a WR is suppose to be, then through sheer reps, he’ll get that timing down pat, regardless of his mechanics.

Agreed, your either a moron and or a conspiracy theorist.

Common man, those things he “insisted on” were so he could get more money over all.

He also did not turn down more money from the titans. The language in those contracts are written in a way it takes a team of lawyers to understand. Don’t fall for that junk though.

Peyton puts nothing first but his marketability. If he put football first he would have renegotiated his contract with the Colts A LONG time ago instead of sucking them dry and keeping them from ever building a real defense.

BTW you said Manning turned down “LESS money” from the Titans. I think you meant the opposite but that is actually factual. He did turn down less up front money.

  • warhorse99

And all the peripheral stuff with the Tebow circus will also be gone from Denver and will let the Broncos (and the true Broncos fans) get back to football.

And if you don’t think a QB controversy hasn’t already started in NJ, go read Cromartie’s tweets. Not what you want to hear from your new teammate. But then the NJ Jets are about as dysfunctional a team as there is in the NFL right now. Will his “nice guy” persona be missed? Yes, but wait til you see Manning’s “Nice guy” side.

And add in that Manning doesn’t throw a lot of 1-hoppers and floating ducks, as well as makes his decisions in less than 13 seconds.

Yep some players and many fans worship football it is their god!  Pretty sad!

lol you guys are funny. you say that elway gave him a choice like it completely makes up for the fact that their getting rid of him altogether. Whether they gave him a choice or not, they got rid of him and thats the point of peoples frustrations.  IMO, i think we should of kept him.  And when you say that people automaticallt think that you werent in favor of manning coming to denver, like its either one or the other. The truth is that the broncos had many different ways they could have went with this decision. I am very happy that they brought manning here and actually got him to sign. Im phsyced!!! however i also think they should have kept Tebow and had him learn how to throw the bakll behind 2 hall of fame QBs. I really dont buy all that BS about how people would start chanting tebows name if manning has some rust on him.  I give Bronco fans more credibillit then that. we’re smarter then that.  obviously manning at %80 is better the tebow at %100.  We all know tebow will never throw the ball as well as manning but that isnt the point anyway.  The point is to be successfull now while grooming for the future and to expand tebows Football IQ, which is very probable to do.  people just dismiss the fact that tebow is a very smart guy and he does have the ability to learn and he’s proved that.  instead the broncos decided to get rid of him and sign Calib Haney? really? so what you guys are saying is that in the event that manning does get hit and his neck shatters to pieces(which is still a very real possibility) your more comfortable with Calib Haney taking his place rather then Tebow? i dout that. Calib haney choked and died in chicago after cutler bit the dust yet tebow was put in in the 5th game of the season and got us to the playoffs. Say what you want about the defence being the reason or prater sealing the deal for him, but point blank, the defence could really care less and played like until tebow hit the field.  the defence literally sparked and it obvious when champ bailey is the first one hugging tebow on the sidelines after the big plays.  Face it, getting rid of tebow may not have been the best idea. but only time will tell.

Most of us never get to live out our dream of playing football, much less being paid millions to do so. Tebow is doing what he loves!
How can you find fault with what that. He is on a journey which he controls the outcome and no one else. That is what draws so many followers and fans to him. It matters not where he is, what team, how much he plays only that he’s living his dream.

I’m not sure what loss you’re referring to.  I do think he inspired people, but he can still do that in a Jets uniform.  He does good community service, but so does Manning.  He’s a good leader and “gamer”, but so is Manning.  Manning, meanwhile is RIGHT NOW better than Tebow, even if he isn’t 100%.  New York can have the circus, as far as I’m concerned.

Being a fan of the Broncos for years and not being a fan of Elway, I trust Tebow to tell the truth. He has better character than Elway

  • Wildride0017

evidently you haven’t read his book, “through my eyes”.  then you would know the kinds of decisions he has made for himself.

Tebow’s from Jaguar country.  He knows what idiots run this team.  It has blackouts because they are losers.  They would have to shut the doors if the Jax City Council Bail them out last year with two payments of $4M, taxpayers dollars.  Shaid Khan is a muslim in the Baptist belt, with a bunch of girlie coaches and managers.  I would be embarrassed to be stuck in Jax, of the NFL.  Jax is not a NFL quality town.  Very Poor investment, Shaid.  Oh yeh!  I’ve been to Karachi, Pakistan several times.  Stinks, like Jacksonville.
