Free agent quarterback Peyton Manning is going to sign with the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.  Per Schefter, Manning called Broncos’ Vice President of football Operations John Elway this morning informing him that he was looking forward to playing for him this season.

Manning has told his agent, Tom Condon, to work out a contract with the team, which is expected to be a four-year, $90 million+ deal.  According to Schefter, the Broncos will now “try to trade third-year quarterback Tim Tebow.”

A fourteen-year veteran, Manning, 35 is a four-time NFL MVP and one-time Super Bowl MVP.  With nearly 55,000 career passing yards and 399 touchdowns, Manning brings experience to Denver’s offense, which struggled to put points on the scoreboard last season.

The Broncos are now expected to bring in several offensive weapons to compliment Manning, free agent tight end Dallas Clark, who played with Manning in Indianapolis, may be among them.  Manning has not decided yet which number he will wear in Denver, he is expected to choose between #16 (which or wore in college) and #18 (which retired, but Frank Tripucka’s has said it would be an honor for the number to be unretired for Manning).

As more details and contract information comes in, we will update the site.

     Not time quite yet…

Wasn’t the playoff win last year a better day or the win against NE 6 years ago?  I’m confused.

  • flbronc

not entirely so.   elways vision for the offense is one much closer to the manning offense than the tebow offense.  this speeds up his process of getting to a pass oriented offense.  i believe that in the eyes of the front office this sets us up better long term because we dont have to spend multiple seasons getting players to compliment an option run oriented system.  plus it gives them a chance to get a qb and develop him while not the starter.

i do share your worry that he is one hit away though.

  • Matt

Please keep tebow. I’m a die hard Denver fan and I believe tebow will be a huge success in the future and I only want it to be in a bronco jersey. He has proven he can be a ballet so let’s just allow him to learn and let him stay where he has proven. I hope so. I want Denver to keep tebow. He earned my respect

While I hope that they will keep Tebow as a backup, I have to hand it to John Elway on this one. Great move, even if this is not successful. Without a doubt this gives the Broncos not only the best chance to win, it actually makes them a contender for the Superbowl.

Not really, neither of those teams had SB potential. Manning can win us a SB, Tebow/Pulmmer could not.

Somebody give Mike Wallace and Dallas Clark a call now!!!

  • broncfan

Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa, too funny. Broncs can kiss goodbye this organization for the next 10 years….what schmucks.

I can hear Elway, in his coarse, cigar hangover voice, two years from now, after finishing last in the division each year:

“Well, we made a choice we thought was best for the team, organization and uh, the fans too.
Now it’s time to move on with Weeden who has watched and learned from the best QB in history these last 2 years. He’s  ready to go and we have total faith he will lead this team to be really competitive. He’s only 31 so he has a lot ofyears left to get us to the championship game again.
Coach Foxy and our new offensive coordinator  are excited and ready to get the best from this team.
We look forward to being active in the draft and free agency but our cap is going to be well, tight this year, but I know Foxy and the FO will do their usual great job Thanks for coming, bye”

    hahahahahaaaahhaaa, broncos, geesh

see ya’ll next year. I can’t wait to say i told ya!!
    And i will.

How long till we sign Dallas Clark?

Bring on Mike Wallace. More than happy to give up our first for a proven commodity.  Saturday too!!!!

As far as the process I believe you are right. It’s the 60 million or more guaranteed he is likely to get I am mostly concerned with. That’s a hell of a lot of money to give a player that will be productive for 2 more years if that.

Hopefully, we pickup Manning’s replacement in the draft. We might be able to squeeze a 2nd out of Jacksonville for Tebow.

Is he the only player in NFL history that can be in the twilight of his career, get a neck injury, have 4 surgeries on said neck to fix it, take a year off because of the injury, and then come back and sign a contract LARGER than the one he had? My goodness, his agent/pr team better get one hell of a christmas bonus! lol

    thanks my man.

When has a mediocre QB not bitten the Broncos in the ass?

Somebody in the niners organization is doubling up on the knee pads and chapstick!

  • Richardnickel

man they should make Tebow into a Gronkowski like they have in New England man Tebow could be great at it,,,he can run n caych n I think he could be a Gronk!!!!!!!

  • flbronc

it’s the win win for elway.  he gets rid of tebow and won’t face total fan revolt in the process (sure some will hate him, but that is for another debate on what type of fans those were).  apparently you can put a price tag on that and it’s 60m guaranteed.

Great news – great day!  :)

The only thing that could make this news any more kicka$$ is if Herc would provide us with an ole Orange-Bucksnorts-style post regarding the announcement.  How I do miss your wit and profanity, my friend!  lol

We always are the team on the receiving end of “career days” or ridiculous plays (like Moss flipping ball over shoulder to teammate)… I’m tired of it!!!

  • Dakota Fan

Trog- love your stuff man…Are you saying that he’s one hit away from being done because of his neck or because of being so late in his career? I was under the impression that this neck issue wasn’t one that could put him in jeopardy if he took a jarring hit. I’m thinking that ANY 36-year old QB is one hit away from done.

My input- and to reiterate your sentiments…..

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  • areferee

It’s a good day… it would be better if they decide to keep Tebow!

  • Anonymous

    Thanks Dakota Fan :)

    I think it’s a little from column A and a little from column B

The older you are the less damage you can take. Obviously every QB is technically 1 hit from having their career ended but in Manning’s case he has two major issues working against him.

    1. Considering his age, a major hit is likely to do more damage today then it was a few years ago. We all saw how many surgeries along with stem cell therapy he was receiving in Europe it took on what was supposed to be not a BIG deal injury in the first place..

    2. His neck may be fully healed but it is still likely to get injured easier now since it is fused together.

QB’s getting hit from the blind side can pretty easily land on their head and another neck injury and the doctors aren’t likely to clear him again.

  • Roy

Boy, I bet Eddie Royal is pissed now!

As a person, I really like Tebow and I wish him huge success wherever he goes. I can’t imagine that keeping him would work out though unless he REALLY wants to be tutored by Manning (and I don’t see Manning as the tutoring type).

His style is just so much different. He is much closer to an Elway style of player (except he can’t throw haha) then it is to a P. Manning style.

Even if he wants to learn under Manning and even if Manning wanted to work with him, I am not so sure much progress would be made.

Personally I would love to keep Tebow a Bronco but it is probably both best for him and the organization if we just move on.

Doug Williams’ “career day” was the worst.

  • rcsodak

Exactly! Now we can start laughing at the poor fans/message boards of Miami/Jax/NE(?).

Poor, dumb bastards wont know what hit them. Lol

Not any longer he is now pining for the Tebow era.

  • rcsodak

Rumor is if they got PM, theyd send this yr’s #1 to Pitt for him.

Odds went from 40:1 to 12:1, behind GB/SF/NE/NYG.

Why? I miss something? Did he sign somewhere?

Roy I was thinking that…he is sitting there going “c’mon man!”

Seriously?  He signed with Chargers last week.

I just worry about the expectations of our fans…remember when Montana signed with the Chiefs?

  • King

     Master of the obvious.

  • King

Me too.  I just hope Manning can make it through an entire season against the AFC west defenses.  750 neck surgeries in the last 19 months doesn’t bode well for us.

  • King

Unfortunately, some people on this board wouldn’t know class if it kicked them in crotch.Â
