The Denver Broncos, and several other teams, have been in contact with free agent quarterback Peyton Manning’s agent, Tom Condon today, according to the Denver Post‘s Mike Klis.

Talks are no more than preliminary though, because Manning has not yet decided where he will finish his career and wants to take today to rest, work out and clear his mind, according to two NFL sources.

Per Klis, there are six teams — Miami, Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee, Houston and Denver — that are actively pursuing Manning.  According to reports, Manning is expected to meet with the Dolphins and Titans in the coming days.  There has been speculation that Manning will also meet with the Texans, but that has not been confirmed.

As MaxDenver.com‘s Andrew Mason has pointed out, this is the first and only time in Manning’s career that he’ll get to explore free agency, so he’ll explore every possible destination.  Mason went on to note that Broncos fans should not be overly concerned because the team gave Manning a great sales pitch and they are feeling good about their chances.

Here we go… Things will get fun over the next few days.

If Peyton wants to rest and clear his mind today, I can see him signing with a team tomorrow.

schefter is reporting that PM will talk to Dolphins and Titans, although they are not meeting at their respective facilities today and tomorrow.

Please trade Tebow. Tim Tebow has already given the Denver Broncos more than their money’s worth and much more than they deserve. He has easily been far more committed to the franchise than the franchise has been to him.  Stop the drama. The soap opera drama is largely due to John Elway’s ego. He is unwilling to commit to Tebow. Let Tebow go so he can focus on playing football.

    John Elway’s ego? OK.

Jon! What is going on? Tell me something comforting about our position for PM right now.  I wish I could do something productive besides hit refresh for 12 more hours!

gmac5, if I were you, I would try to do something that would take your mind off of the situation.  It may be a few more days before Manning decides, but I still think the Broncos’ chances of landing him are high.

If Manning is basing his landing spot first and foremost on his chances of winning another ring, he will go to S.F. They are by far the most complete team interested in his services. In fact, him going there probably makes them SB favorites in Vegas overnight.

Randy Moss is working out there too. If they land both of those guys, combined with Vernon Davis, Frank Gore and that defense. Yeah, that’s a hell of a team for the next 2 – 3 years.

PM said he was focusing on staying in the AFC, but if SF comes up with a good offer he could easily change his mind I guess.

I still think he doesn’t want to compete with his brother for the NFC crown.

    Fingers crossed

Of course it is all about Elway’s ego.  Anything else would require rational thinking.

I could see Peyton Manning saying he’s going to retire.

    Four times he’s been voted the NFL’s MVP . . . multiple Division Championships . . .  AFC Champion . . . SuperBowl Champion.

He’s in the Hall of Fame already.

Why take another vicious hit?  For what?

Two to four more years with a bulls eye on your chest?

He could work for ESPN or the NFL Network and be wealthy.

He could sell golf balls for Sears and make a seven figure salary on Thursday.

I think the destination he should explore is his living room.
