The Broncos offense started the game hot, but turnovers, broken coverage and missed tackling did them in in the end.  Denver is now 8-6 following a 41-23 loss to the New England Patriots.

There is good news, though.  The Oakland Raiders (7-7) also lost on Sunday, so the Broncos still have a one-game lead in the AFC West with remaining games against the Buffalo Bills (5-9) and Kansas City Chiefs (6-8) coming up.

The last time Denver was beaten this badly (against the Lions a few weeks ago), the team rebounded the next week with a solid performance and a victory over the Raiders.  As fans, we can only hope Denver has the same kind of response this week.

Several Broncos players had good performances on Sunday.  Quarterback Tim Tebow had 287 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns; receiver Demaryius Thomas had seven catches for 116 yards and defensive end Elvis Dumervil recorded his eighth and a half sack of the season.

At the end of the day, you can never expect to win after committing over half a dozen penalties and turning the ball over three times.  It will be a long week in Denver.

Here’s hoping that this humbling loss will be the wake up call perhaps we all needed.  Now that we’re all back down to earth, maybe the team will be able to bounce back win a Christmas Eve victory in Buffalo Saturday.

Great post, I’m right there with ya! BTW was it just me or didn’t Von Miller sack Tom Brady too? He isn’t getting credit for it in the box score if he did.

The headlines should read: “Broncos Exposed”

Hey the 7 game win streak was fun, no question, but only 2
of those teams might be in the playoffs or even will be. Sure any one can loose a game but when you flat out get your ass handed to you by a team that can and probably will contend for the Super Bowl you have in-fact been Exposed…

The good thing is the rest of the division continues to suck
so we are still a head in the division. So unless we continue to melt down like we did today we can still win the division and still make the playoffs. Like I said over a month ago, and got talked shitty to for, we will only make the post season if we win the division. Yes I know some will blame mistakes and turn overs, but that is what good teams make other teams do… Turn the ball over.

So you can go ahead and call me names and talk shit or you
can agree with the reality of the situation, either way I hope we are not going to keep melting down like today and snap back to at least get a strong showing at a home wild card game!

On a good note I felt like TT played real well maybe even better than before. He made some very good decisions and played well. But still a team loss just like wins are team wins. We’ll see how they react after another butt whippin’. The last one put’em on a 7 game win streak…

Yes, I agree.  That was not a rushing attempt so it should count as a sack.  I bet that get changed during the week by the Elias Sports Bureau.

Tebow needs another year and watch out.  The great Bill Walsh said an NFL QB needs 32-36 games before you know what you have.  I think the future is bright if he learns how to read defenses.  Credit Brady, the dudes a master!

I certainly wouldn’t call one bad game exposed. One game doesn’t make it a trend. The Bronco’s weren’t supposed to win this game in the first place and we have not been a team that commits stupid penalties of fumbles so it was uncharacteristic of our play over 6 straight weeks.

“Exposed” would have been had we played our best and still gotten ran over. We are a better team then the score indicated. Just a young team that is still learning the game and to work as a unit.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Yup.  Plus, McGahee missing a lot of the game and Dawkins missing all of it didn’t help anything,

  • Cdub12344321

Couldn’t disagree more! I can actually admit we self deathbeds and defeated ourselves, inwhich you don’t do facing a team as pristine as the patriots. I feel as though we could have really won this game had we been ourselves and settled down and played ball.

On a good note raiders loss today which helps us out immensely!

  • Anonymous

Hmmm I see where you guys are coming from for sure, but this is the first serious contender we’ve faced since Detroit (I’m not sure they really are a contender either) and we got it handed to us. Bad game? Yes for sure. But I still think it exposed a bit as well by a true playoff team.

Do either of you think it would have been that much different if Willis and Brian would have been in there? Really? I think the out come would have been the same myself. The Patriots are just better than us right now, that just is what it is.

I do agree Trog that this is a young team still learning to play together, that is an excellent point and I’m not saying that they suck in way shape or form. I just think that they got exposed as a young team that is still learning to play together, not so much a bad thing as just a true thing. There are many teams in the NFL that are in much worse shape than we are for sure.

Glad you guys understood the opinion however, rather than just instantly thinking I’m being negative just to be negative…lol ;-)…

For the first time i agree with this statment… I really think TT looked better in this loss than he did in the last win any way. I think he really showed promise, and I think no matter who he is with in the future he’ll make it in the NFL. He finally played more than a forth qr, he played for 3 qt r’s today, unfortunately against that team it wasn’t enough but it was good to see for sure.

  • Dante Pakistan

I agree, and with you I’ve been saying a good team will beat us good and just like you, I have been ridiculed for it.

One positive note, Tebow has proven me wrong and I do now believe he can be our franchise QB. He made a lot if great passes today, only a few bad passes. He took a few bad sacks and that fumbled killed us, but with the offense we run sacks are going to happen.

  • Dante Pakistan

Turnovers killed us, our D didn’t play great. We did a good job of shutting Gronk down but let Hernandez run all over the field. We should still make the playoffs but will get murdered by either PIT or BAL in the first round. I like where this team is headed.

How bout DOOM blowing up Brady? Favorite bad of an ugly loss for me.

  • Dante Pakistan

Dawkins would have help in the run game but our biggest issue was the 3rd and long conversions and the passes over the middle and we all know Dawk couldnt cover a corpse.

  • Dante Pakistan

I’ve been one of the critical on here about Tebow but I agree, I like his progress, his release could be better but he seems to be seeing the field better instead of just looking at his 1st option and then running around, he still doesn’t see a lot of open guys but that’ll improve. His accuracy has gotten 300% better since Miami but that as well needs to continue to improve.

exposed??????????? Broncos were dominating before the back to back to back turnovers followed by the Patriots taking possession again at the half? exposed….????? we exposed that we can beat the Patriots if we dont shoot ourselves in the foot.

    The road to success leads
    through the valley of humility,
and the path is up the ladder of
    patience and across the wide
    barren plains of perseverance.  As
yet, no short cut has been
    discovered.

  • Vincemarine

I feel McCoy got away from what was working for us today.  We were running the ball with such authority and then we started to get cute with the play calling and then the turnovers came.  There was no need to run the option today because we were fine running out of the “I”.

As for the Def, well it was a rough one.  Our two young safties need a lot of work.  They can’t tackle or cover.  I hope they come along in the offseason and that BDawk comes back soon.  Additionally, I’m tired of seeing our LB’s getting burned in coverage.  Teams constantly pick on them in the passing game.  We need to address this in the offseason!!!

Special teams:  Cosby needs to go!  Why we continue to keep Royal on the bench in punt return situations is beyond me.  He is also putting in bad situations on the kick off returns.  He needs to learn it’s ok to take a knee sometimes.

I don’t feel as bad after this loss but check with me after the San Diego vs Baltimore game.  I hope we can grow and learn from this and win out.  GO BRONCOS!

I agree, that made me smile when Doom unloaded on Brady Gaga

  • Dante Pakistan

Quan Cosby really fucking sucks as a KR, dude is slow and has no moved. Everytime he returns a kick he gies straight up the middle to around the 16 and get twckled by the first guy that touches him. There is no reason he should be returning kicks, either Royal or Decker needs to handle it full time.

The snap was fumbled on that play and hit the ground before Brady gained control of it. It seems that is enough to make him essentially a running back, and at that point a tackle is just a tackle for loss, not a sack.

Any given Sunday bud. See KC > GB

I’d hate to see Decker because he is the only WR we have other than Thomas (no that is not a diss on Royal, it’s just the way it’s worked out for whatever reason. He either drops the pass or Tebow misses him by a freaking mile). Still I completely agree with you!

    Merry Christmas my friend!

Tell you what- the Ravens looked awful tonight against the Dolts. Dang, here go the Chargers screwing everything up and deciding to go on a late season run.

  • Dakota Fan

    That’s deep, man…Real deep…

Merry Christmas- all I want for Christmas is a playoff berth…

  • Dakota Fan

Losing this one was tough, considering starting with a 16-7 advantage. Softening the blow? Watching Dumervil separate Tom Brady from planet Earth for a few seconds with that CRUSHING shot. C’mon boys- let’s FINISH THIS RIGHT AND GET IN THE PLAYOFFS because these guys deserve it.

    GOOOOOO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dante Pakistan

Yeah, I just don’t see us losing that game.

  • http://twitter.com/Sinfix Anthony

2nd that, no need for the option today. just handing the ball off was wrecking the patriots defense.

  • http://thingsatrexdoes.tumblr.com Mike Birtwistle

If you’d offered me 8-6 after 1-4 I’d have taken it.

Too many mistakes to overcome.  Pack up and move on.

Here’s what I got out of this game:

We were not “exposed”, we were not “out classed”, and we were not “outmatched” like a lot of people want to write and talk about. We simply lost this game in the 2nd Quarter. That’s it.

It wasn’t that the Patriots caused 3 turnovers in the last 9 minutes of the 2nd Quarter, it’s that we just uncharacteristically made them. It isn’t that the Patriots had us so on the ropes that we needed to be careless with the ball, we just didn’t have the ball bounce our way. It isn’t that we were so awe struck by that team that we couldn’t hold on to 3 straight punts by Cosby, he just for whatever reason forgot how to field a punt. It isn’t that we were so far out of our league that we couldn’t even snap the ball right on our extra point attempt, it was simply a mistake.

If anything was proven yesterday, it’s that the Broncos are legit. We should be counted among the super bowl contenders. We should be feared by every opponent we face. The Patriots won that game, but they certainly didn’t beat us! We beat us! The Patriots didn’t force us to do the penalties we did, we just committed them. The Patriots didn’t score 2 TDs that for whatever reason weren’t overturned.

Like Green Bay, it was just our day to lose. Does anyone really think they Chiefs are better than Green Bay? Of course not! It was just the Packers’ day to lose, just like it isn’t that the Patriots are better than us, it was just our day to lose. On a day that started out so good, it went equally bad in the 2nd Quarter. If we eliminate those costly turnovers, then the rest of the game is very different, and we are either winning come the last drive, or only down by a point. Don’t bother doing the math, because teams play different when they aren’t behind by 18.

We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Normally that would be a terrible thing, but in this case, it just showed me that we can hang with the big boys. We can get it done against a super bowl champ, and that we deserve to be in the discussion as a super bowl contender. Let’s not forget that we did this without Dawkins. Between Tebow and Dawkins, this team is going to have a fire burning inside of them that will set the rest of the league on fire. I feel sorry for the Bills, because this team is going to be fueled by this loss, and will come out looking to destroy the Bills.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  • Just being honest…

Can someone post all Broncos playoff scenarios?

    So far I have:
-2 wins and Broncos are in
-Beat KC and Broncos are in
-Beat Buffalo and SD/Oak loss next week and Broncos are in

  • Anonymous

I know that if the Broncos win next week and Raiders lose/tie, we ‘re in. Chargers are only in play if they win out and the Broncos and Raiders lose out.

  • Anonymous

    Here they are….
If we win out we win west
If we beat buff and oak loses 1 of last 2, we win division
If we simply beat KC, we win division
Oak beats KC, Chargers beat whoever, then they beat Oak, and then we don’t even have to win another game this year and we are in. lol

  • Dakota Fan

Anybody hear anything about McGahee? Lots of years on his frame for a RB and he’s starting to show it with the injuries here and there. Tough guy and he’s been key this year, but can he sustain for a playoff drive? Wish we had this deal wrapped up so he could sit for a few weeks and heal up. Oh well- Ball could do just fine if he’d quit turning the ball over.

  • Anonymous

We need to get better in the secondary.  We won’t be able to hang with elite passing offenses with those chumps (excluding Champ, obvs).

Rahim Moore has been one of the biggest dissapointments of the season so far.

  • Denver Dog

It’s going to be really embarrassing when Kyle Orton and the Kansas City Chiefs roll into town and rout the Broncos to make them 8-8 and push them out of the playoffs, while the Chargers win out and win the division.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Well that stinks.  He’s still stuck at 11.5 then.  But on the bright side, Doom is up to 8.5 on the season.

  • areferee

Refs are always in SOMETHING deep!  :-)

  • areferee

You forgot one additional scenario, Pete:

Regardless of who wins the next two games in the AFC West,

                   1.  The Broncos are Winners

                   2.  The Raiders are Wieners.

                   3.  San Diego and Kansas City (See #2)

  • Mikemaurer19

I watched the play happen. Regardless if the ball touches the ground, Brady dropped back to throw the ball, should be a sack if he’s hit.

  • Bryan

Trog’s idea of Trent Richardson is sounding better and better.

    haha thanks :)
