Kyle Orton, waived by the Denver Broncos Tuesday, has been awarded off waivers to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Per multiple reports, the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys were the other teams to place claims.

The Broncos close their 2011 regular season by playing the Chiefs at home on January 1, 2012. Tim Tebow vs. Kyle Orton. Happy New Year, indeed.

I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt the Broncos

Well I will give it to Herc, he did call the Chiefs.  Now I just hope that he was right about the game meaning something to us.  Although I hope he is wrong about it biting us in the ass.

A little surprised.  Man, nothing going right for this guy as I’m sure he wanted to get back to Chicago.  Glad he’s not our QB anymore, but he truly was a nice guy and I wish him and his new family well.  He came here under the most bizarre of circumstances.  Thanks to McDip.

On the same subject (sort of), did anyone else listen to Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless on ESPN this morning?  For those who don’t know, simply put, Bayless is a big Tebow fan and Smith is a 180 from Bayless.  This morning Bayless actually called out Elway and said the real reason he put Orton on waivers is for Chicago to pick him up and come back to Denver and beat the snot out of the Broncos so Elway could prove his point about Tebow not being ready.

I’ve heard a lot of stupid things, but this absolutely takes the cake.  Seriously Bayless, get a frickin’ clue before open you pie hole.

Of the 3 teams that offered a claim on Orton, he stands a better chance of being the long-term starter over Cassel at KC than he did over Romo at Dallas or Cutler at Chicago.

My personal opinion is that Miller and Dumervil are salivating at the chance to unload on him as a way to start the new year and end the regular season.  He may have trouble staying healthy.  Cassel was mobile and still got hurt.

My hope is that it will not be our final game of the year, but that it will be for the Chiefs.

  • King

Herc wasn’t the only one that called the Chefs.

  • King

It’s pretty obvious that Chicago didn’t want him back with Hanie starting.  I’m sure the Bears could’ve worked something out with the Chefs is they really wanted him.

Don’t stop there with Bayless anthony- it is INFURIATING the “experts” on all of the networks that the Broncos are 4-1 with Tebow at QB, and we’ve heard the DUMBEST, most asinine comments about the Broncos, their QB, their coaches and their executives. Tebow’s great, and his late game heroics haven’t brought me to my feet like this since #7 was at QB, but i’m not naive enough to buy into Tebow as the QB of the future.

However, to see the absolute looks of disgust on the faces of Merrill Hoge and Cris Carter when people dare question Tebow’s unconventional ways of winning is reward enough. I hate to insult some of my bretheren who think Tebow as he plays now is the answer to our prayers (no pun intended), but he’s not the sole reason our team has won these last several games. No one looks at the fact that our defense has kept us close enough to win these games. Screw Bayless, his idiot conspiracy theories and his bad hairdo.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  • flbronc

kind of surprised.  i know that there are still six to play, but kc is pretty out of the hunt to make that move…  even with good qb play, i dont think their team is good enough or healthy enough to make up two games with what we have left to play.  seems like a waste of 2.5m.  oakland would have to go 2-4(or worse) the rest of the way and kc 5-1… orton doesnt seem like the guy who can come in and win 5 of 6.

  • Vincemarine

The Cowboys putting in a claim for him is interesting to me. What does that say for Romo? Also read an article today that said Orton wouldn’t report if the Chiefs claimed him. I guess we’ll find out. Go Broncos.

I know but I was giving him shit in another thread so I felt like I would be nice to him in this one.  It is Thanksgiving tomorrow you know.

True but I like KC’s chances of beating Oakland in week 16 better with Orton at the helm than with Palko.  Who knows, maybe Orton gets us into the playoffs.  Wouldn’t that be something.

  • King

Skip spouts some crazy stuff sometimes, but that is pretty much par for the course for ESPN as a whole.   They have fallen very far from what they were in the 80’s and even 90’s.  They were saying earlier that Orton was going to the Bears, and we see how that turned out.

ESPN is the sporting equivalent of “As The World Turns”.

    KO + KC = KOKC

  • Anonymous

I think it says more about their desire to keep Orton from going to the Bears since they are both battling for the wild card spot.

  • Broncmanc

All day I was telling my Chiefs friend that they would pick up Orton, as a Joke, and he was the first one to text me this news.  Also, I honestly wish Orton the best in any game not against the Broncos.

  • Bob

I’m starting to miss the NBA. ESPN has all this pent up crazy and stupid that they used to be spending on Lebron and the Heat.

  • Anonymous

Since Chicago put a waiver claim in so they must have wanted him.  The only place they could have worked out a deal with the chefs was in your little fantasy world where they would have had to work out a deal with the cowgirls as well.

  • Anonymous

Jon Kitna got hurt in practice, they needed a quality backup. Personally I like McGee but it doesn’t seem like they do.

  • Anonymous

The Bayless comment is right out of the virginiabronco world of conspiracies against Tebow.

  • Anonymous

Orton and Todd Haley on the same team? And we get to play them in the last game of the year? It’s like a dream come true!

Carter and Hodge just flat out hate the guy and give him absolutely no credit what so ever.  It’s ridiculous.  It also kills there credibility with anyone that knows anything about the sport.  You can still think the guy won’t make it as an NFL QB and recognize when he does at least some things well.

I’m not ready to jump all the way on the band wagon, but at least give the credit some of the reason they’re 4-1 since he took over.  Yes, big time kudos to the defense, but do you really think they would have gone 4-1 with Orton at the helm?  NO WAY.

Greene and Golic along with Shefty and Mark S are the only voices of reason left at ESPN.  TJ and Boomer too.

too too funny. thanks KC and hopefully Orton is your starter and leader in the locker room/practice field doing what he does best for many, many years!

  • virginiabronco

    It’s plausible.

  • virginiabronco

IF the chefs beat us it won’t be because of Orton.

  • Ninjaix

It was a good chance chiefs run an ex-patriot offense same as McCoy did under McDaniels so it won’t take long for Orton to adjust. But still a surprise as it seems KC is a long shot at best and a 2 games from mathematical elimation.

Glad to see that someone else has picked up his rediculously high paycheck. Also, I see this as a good chance for Tebow to grow. Without Orton hanging over him, he should have more confidence.

  • Anonymous

    Yeah… suck, lose, and stink!

  • King

My mistake jd.  I had forgotten the Bears put a claim on him, but the Chefs were ahead of the Bears in pecking order.

Please forgive me for my mistake.

The whole Kyle Orton thing in Denver obviously didn’t work out…. I feel bad for KO.  He never asked to be put into the position that he was, and was a true professional through it all.  He’s a good quality back-up with a pretty good arm and no mobility.  I wish him the best until we play him Jan 1.  No doubt in my mind that he is an extremely tough guy.  He played behind a really crappy line and no running game here in Denver.

  • King

I’ll say this:  I don’t really think Elway wants Tebow to succeed in Denver.  He may want to keep him on as a backup or somewhere else, but he was REALLY defensive when Vic and Gary asked him the other morning about a college game he attended in Texas over the weekend.  He was downright sharp and short with Vic and Gary.

If Tebow succeeds then that is one less area of need.  What coach, gm, or vp doesn’t want that?  There are enough holes to fill on the roster already.  Every rational Bronco’s fan wants Tebow to succeed for that very reason.  Every rational fan also sees problems with the lack of a passing game.  Elway stated cleary that 3 of 13 on 3rd down is not good enough.  Winning makes that stat only slightly more palatable.  We’re seeing right now when that stat is accompanied by losing.
The only thing that has changed with the QB’s is when the offense produces points.  Total offensive production has not changed.
