Tim Tebow v Kansas City Chiefs

If at first you don’t succeed, run, run again.

That’s the Denver Broncos‘ new offensive philosophy with QB Tim Tebow at the helm.

The Denver Broncos are going to run the football on first down. They’re going to run it on second down. They’re going to run it on third down. They’re going to run it eight straight times to open the game with a touchdown, and they’re going to keep running it until they’re utterly convinced their opponent can stop them.

And if the last two games are any indication, teams haven’t been able to stop them.

It had been four full quarters of football — the middle of the third quarter in Oakland to late in the third quarter today in Kansas City — since the Broncos and Tim Tebow had even completed a pass, but it didn’t matter. The Broncos lost both of their starting running backs Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno in the first quarter, but it didn’t matter. They ran the football down the Chiefs’ throats, gaining 244 en route to a rare 17-10 Arrowhead victory in Week 10 NFL action.

The Broncos’ defense was dominant in pursuit of QB Matt Cassel, who was sacked twice and hurried on at least a half dozen other occasions. The Chiefs were held without points until the third quarter.

Only at one point was the game beginning to look grim for the Broncos. Up 10-7 in the third quarter, the Broncos’ running game had finally slowed, and the passing game was non-existent. Tebow had completed only one pass out of six attempts. The momentum was in Kansas City’s favor.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Tebow launched a perfectly thrown football to Eric Decker 56 yards downfield. Decker caught the pass in stride for a Broncos touchdown.

It was as if three quarters of running had all setup that one beautiful Tebow pass. “We’ve got ’em right where we want ’em.

With the win, the Broncos (4-5) enter a three-way tie in the AFC West for second place, behind only one game to the Oakland Raiders (5-4).

This was another solid team win by the Broncos. They played smart, mostly-penalty-free football. The defense was fantastic, particularly Ryan McBean and Chris Harris. The offensive line did a huge job blocking and sealing up the likes of Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson. They never got into unmanageable 3rd and long’s. Just a great win by what is becoming a good team. Onto the New York Jets on Thursday night.

If you would have told be before the game that we would lose both Magahee and Moreno by half time I would have said we are complete toast.

Defense played absolutely great and the offense, while extremely conservative, held on to the ball.  Starting to worry about Prater though.

Nice team win Broncos… very nice.

The only problem with throwing 8 times is that 6 of those cannot be incomplete.  And weren’t there more than a few complainers regarding the run, run, run play calling a few weeks back?

  • King

There’s no problem with running if you win.  Too many dropped passes and I’m surprised Decker didn’t drop the TD pass.

  • Anonymous

    Great team effort!

  • Anonymous

I’m surprised Tebow got the ball in the same zip code. 2 drops and the other 4 incompletions poorly thrown.  But then it is never Tebow’s fault is it.
How many more points would the offense put up if Tebow could throw the ball consistantly well?

  • anthony33

Can we please save the bitching for losses please.

  • virginiabronco

Tebow attemped to connect more long balls today than KO has thrown in 3 years combined.  By my count he only badly missed on two throws.  The rest were in or near receiver’s hands.  Once again, it would have been nice if a short game with some quick throws was in the play book but they (coaches) seemed to at least have a plan today and they executed on both sides of the ball.  Good win!

  • anthony33

The defense continues to improve.  I would they are at least middle of the pack.  Not great, but sooooo much better than last year.

The running game is as good as it’s been in the last five years.  McCoy has done a good job game planning.

I think you have to give Fox and his staff at least a B – B+  in coaching.

If Tebow progresses in the passing game… look out.

  • King

For real.  I am so amused that the Tebow haters spend so much energy hating that they can’t even enjoy a win !  lmao !

  • King

    Well said.

And, were 1-4 under Orton.  3-1 under Tebow.  I’ll take it.

  • kerry

yeah that will come about in 4 days when we actually play a good defensive team in the Jets. lets see if we win completeing 2 passes against a team that plays defense, unlike the Chiefs.

  • Bronco Daddy’s Girl

There were some catchable balls thrown by Tebow against the Chiefs…and also give Tebow credit for managing the game well and protecting the ball. Among minimal attempts and some subpar passing, he has moments of perfect throws for touchdowns aka to Decker today and the other games in which he’s played this year.

I don’t buy the buy the mechanics mantra by all the pundits. Much of his misses come by hesitation, timing and needing to improve in reading the field. This can be developed with coaching and repetition. In the meantime his mobility and ability to make good decisions about the run help compensate in his overall offensive attack. He is already a serious threat to opposing defenses and this will continue to increase as his skills progress.

The current offensive line is the most promising I’ve seen in awhile and is the primary force behind the effectiveness of the Broncos running attack. It’s encouraging to see the emerging success of a young offensive line that can ultimately have a key role in developing a Broncos dynasty.

While Tebow is developing the Broncos have a defense that is becoming a force to be reckoned with, particularly if we can continue to build with younger free agents and draft picks. The veterans can mentor them in their first 1-2 years before they retire.

Except for some struggles by Prader, special teams played heads up in punting along with pursuing and protecting the ball for exceptional field position. Prader is an elite kicker and these struggles will resolve.

It is a myth that it can take years to develop a winning team. With development of Tebow’s passing skills and improvement of the passing game (all of the offense, not just Tebow,) the Broncos can be a dominant force in the NFL within 2 seasons. This season, more than ever, is marked by teams passing for more than 300 yards and losing. Running, defense, effective coaching and inspiring leadership by the coaching staff and quarterback win championships.

As a life-long Bronco fan and daughter of a dad who was one of the top 50 season ticket holders, I have supported the Broncos through both winning and losing seasons. Since Tebow assumed leadership we’ve seen flashes of brilliance, ugliness and everything in between. People can criticise everything about him but the truth remains that within only four games he has elevated the Broncos and should be their quarterback, both this season and in the future.

I am more encouraged by what I’ve seen than I have been for quite some time. In large part to the fact that the Broncos have had TEAM wins led by Tebow, this Broncos team is the most fired up I’ve seen in quite some time. in large part to the fact that these have been TEAM wins led by Tebow. I love the team’s smiles and shows of support to each other on the sideline. GO BRONCOS!!!

they wouldnt put up much unless we play lousy defenses every week. we didnt win because of Tebow. thats for sure. i mean has anyone seen such a lousy display of QB play? 2 completions. seriously if there is anyone in the world that thinks we will ever become an elite team with Tebow running 20 times and completeing 2 passes, then i have a lovely padded room and plenty of meds for you

  • kerry

yeah lets just hope we play the Chiefs and the Dolphins every week

  • virginiabronco

All you have to do is ask the haters if they want to see KO back as QB.  They all leave the room

  • virginiabronco

maybe the coaches will design to more attempts in the play calling for Thursday. You sound as if you are pulling for the Jets.

  • Anonymous

Just got back from Arrowhead, had a blast at the game. It was nice doing the “In-Com-Plete” chant with the other Broncos fans in my section. Great day of football!

  • Troyn

Don’t forget the Raiders Kerry.  Seriously, you are a joke in your criticism of Tebow.  He did more in limited chances than most QB’s could have today. Guess what, the Broncos won.  TT will be fine, because he finds ways to win.  You sound just like the Elway critics in his first years. (no Tebow is not Elway, there is only one GOAT)  However, there are always those that can’t see clearly what can work, because they are limited in their thinking.  Don’t despair, you are in the same boat with Merrill and Boomer, so you have company in you wrongheadedness.

  • King

The Jets have a weak run defense.

And yes, you do sound like a Jets fan.

  • King

Amen.  His posts prove he’s a hater.  I wonder how many people on this board are “actual” Broncos fans.

  • Anonymous

    nevermind

“Tebow attemped to connect more long balls today than KO has thrown in 3 years combined.” huh?

    What an AWESOME WIN.

  • Sam

Try being a Redskins fan. Please send us Tebow.

  • Lovethebroncos

    You are really an $#^$%!

  • steve

The Orange Crush is back, and this time he’s taking snaps. I love watching this style of play. Get on board with the revolution now haters, we are going to win the division then I be you’ll all be broncos fans.

  • Anonymous

I thought you were dead, haven’t seen you post in awhile. Welcome back

  • Anonymous

Not trying to come up with excuses for the incomplete passes, but I heard the wind at Arrowhead was over 15 mph today.  It can have an affect.

  • W91992

I am with you man! Tebow is a leader. I hope he does the unthinkable and gets the Bronco’s into the playoffs.  Then the haters will have to acknowledge he can play. Or will they?

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Or the Raiders… who by the way are leading the division and just smacked around San Diego.

  • Anonymous

Knock me over with a feather, we are back in the playoff hunt baby!!!
Tebow was 6 for 8 with 2 passing TDs if we had high school WRs. Of his first 4 attempts (all incomplete), 3 hit the receivers in the hands and were dropped, one of which was an easy TD for Decker. Of the 2nd half throws, 3 of the 4 hit the receivers in the hands, 1 for a TD. I’m not making this stuff up, look at the tape yourselves.

If the name on the back of the jersey said anything but “Tebow”, Everyone, the announcers, the reporters, the columnists, EVERYONE would be saying “those stats aren’t the QBs fault, the WRs need to make those catches.” Unfortunately, the name on the back of our QBs jersey says Tebow, so 2 for 8 means he’s horrible.

What I love is that our D is getting rest. As everyone should remember, our D usually does good until they get winded. THAT my friends, is when the wheels fall off and we become the 32nd ranked Defense in the league. Because we have a running game that apparently nobody can stop even though we give them every chance in the world to know what we are doing, our defense is staying rested. When our D is rested, they dominate. While I think we need more of a passing game, we need our D to stay fresh even more. I’m just hoping there is a happy medium somewhere.

What fans need to do is get a big bar of soap, wash themselves with it untill they clean off 2006-2010 and then the first 5 games of this year. Then, maybe they can start enjoying these victories, enjoying being in the playoff hunt, and enjoy watching our beloved team play. I mean, if you don’t enjoy it and feel good about winning, why bother watching? Save your money, time, and liver and take up knitting. I hear it’s way less stressful than being happy for our team after a good win!

“McCoy has done a good job game planning.”

Are you freekin kidding me?!? If they would have played any defense at all we’d been in trouble. The only thing more pathedic than that game plan was the KC Defense… Period.

Hey I like that we won, no question but I have to agree & I hate agreeing with any thing this Kerry clown says but any one that thinks that the Broncos can even make a wild card with that offense today, in the NFL, is seriously looking at their world through orange colored classes…

Hey it was fun watching for sure but I spent more of the game shaking my head and laughing about their D, our seriously crappy passing game and how even knowing it was coming they couldn’t stop it…

Thats not hating or loving TT its REALITY…lol. C’mon folks as I’ve said many times I NEVER want us to loose but some of you all really show how little you know about this game or should I say the level of the game (NFL).

I really liked it when there back up came in and they said he spent the week running the scout team and being TT… The main difference was that he was too fast…lol. I’ve started to think that maybe that is why guys keep missing him, because they expect him to be faster and he isn’t… I know that makes me a TT hater right? No not at all, just being honest.

Trust me when I say that with friends that don’t like the Broncos or with other people that don’t my orange classes are as thick as any of yours, but here (at home so to speak) I’ll always pull them off and at least try to talk reality…

And yeah Wid… Good to see you back around man…

  • Jpmatinez

    A win IS a win

  • Anonymous

Yeah I don’t know where that was coming from either… I don’t even remotely like KO, and was bummed when he came here but if TT had his accuracy he’d be the super star all these wood-work fans think he is… And no I’m not a hater…lol.

That does crack me up, when someone states a negative fact here they are called haters by the lovers, funny, very funny!

  • Anonymous

“regarding the run, run, run play calling a few weeks back?”

Yes! I agree. Sorry Jim but putting it on the wind – Really?!?

A bunch of folks here are saying that the WR’s didn’t catch the balls… They were bad throws, period. Not the end of the world by any means and it does not say the guy isnt improving, he is.

Could a couple been caught? Yes, prolly so. Were the other 4 Grossly under thrown? YES, for sure. I know, now, I’m a hater…lol.

  • Anonymous

Dude… Why is it that any one that says anything that isn’t agreeing with you they are either haters or don’t enjoy the Broncos winning?

I don’t even remotely think TT is the future QB for the Broncos but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the win… I cant stand KO so does that mean that I hated or didn’t enjoy every game that was won while he was our QB. Please…

And because I think that today will not take us into the playoffs I’m bitching? Guys take it easy, it seems to me that the only time you guys are here is when the Broncos win. Ya gotta love’em no matter what but being real about what is going on doesn’t make me or any one else a hater or a bad fan…

  • Anonymous

Yeah that was bad. I get it, Tebow sucks but my god if it’s 3rd and 5 or more and we aren’t at risk of losing FG range, why aren’t we throwing? The guy only has 1 int it’s not like he makes bad decisions and his off target throws are so off target nobody can catch them haha

  • Anonymous

Why is it you only show up when the Broncos are winning to bitch?

  • Anonymous

    Whidbey you sly dog!

  • Anonymous

But but but… Tebow has INTANGIBLES!!! lol

The playoff hopes all probably come to an end Thursday but until they do, I’m with you in enjoying this win and holding out hope :)

  • http://thingsatrexdoes.tumblr.com Mike Birtwistle

Last year Moreno ran for 160-ish yards against the Cheifs and when it came down to the 4th quarter, 8(?) consecutive plays were incomplete passes.  Last year there were too many passes and the Broncos lost.

This year there aren’t enough passes and the Broncos won.  I’d rather have this year’s outcome please.

  • anthony33

so you think they would have won by throwing 50 times?  He game planned to what we have and what the chiefs didn’t.

So no, I’m not freekin kidding.

  • anthony33

I like the defensive, not so much for the offense but at least they are doing what they need to do to win right now.  Just don’t think it’s sustainable… we’ll see.  Good run blocking is good run blocking no matter how you slice or dice it.  You will eventually need to balance it out I think.

    Don’t forget the Raiders!

  • Erazo362

To us you are tt hater and a bad fan, either get on the wagon or go get a team you like, but shut the f%%% up you wineing baby.

  • Erazo362

Yea what did you chant when Tim threw the 56 yard touchdown pass???

  • flbronc

totally agree.  you are not going to win a game with tt on a tom brady game plan.  his arm just isnt there.

  • Erazo362

You keep saying honestly, honestly. Anyone that keeps saying honestly are for the most part dishonest, its kind of like saying trust me, to your girl friend or wife, and we all know what that means!!!!
