Detroit Lions v Denver Broncos

There would be no Tim Tebow comeback this time. Not down 42 points in the fourth quarter.

The Detroit Lions dominated the Broncos from start to finish. They took a 7-3 lead from their first possession and never relented. Their offensive and defensive lines dominated their Broncos’ opponents, and the Lions scored 45 unanswered points to finish with a 45-10 victory at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

The Denver Broncos hardly got started. Their first drive showed flashes of promise, of the benefits of a week’s worth of practices and a “revamped” college-style offense that played to Tebow’s strengths. The Broncos were an Eric Decker toe tap from a touchdown — Tebow’s touchdown toss was ruled incomplete — before struggling to gain another first down for three quarters. Tim Tebow again displayed inaccuracy and indecisiveness. The Broncos’ running game was stuffed. It was an embarrassment at home.

Adding insult to embarrassment were defensive touchdowns by the Lions. Adding insult to insult were the big plays by Tony Scheffler and Alphonso Smith, who tallied a touchdown and forced fumble respectively — former Broncos who were traded to the Lions in separate trades by ex-coach Josh McDaniels.

Tebow finished 18 for 39 for 172 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Many of his yards and completions came in the fourth quarter, with the game well out of hand.

The Broncos are left with questions, and the sobering realization that no quarterback — Tim Tebow, Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, or even Andrew Luck — is going to solve the plethora of problems this plague this once-proud franchise. They fall to 2-5 on the season as they prepare for an AFC West rematch against the Oakland Raiders.

Orlando Franklin, what was that? I miss Ryan Harris.

Tim Tebow, please, work on your footwork.

Mike McCoy, I could coach the Broncos’ offense better than you.

Broncos’ coaching staff, Knowshon Moreno really is awful.  While Lance Ball took advantage of every carry. Please connect the dots.

Broncos’ receivers, you made me miss Brandon Lloyd.  (Eric Decker is a great receiver and makes plays with the ball, but Demaryius Thomas needs to be able to be the deep threat for Tebow.)

Bronco fans, don’t get too discouraged.  With another high draft pick in 2012, the only direction this organization can go is up.

  • ronster

OK, all you who were dissing Orton so heavily early in the season and saying TT was the answer, do you think we could trade for Ryan Leaf straight up?

  • 12508

Told you this roster was a disaster. I guess this is all McD fault. Dont worry be happy. XANDERS will get the players we need to win. I believe in him. You should too.

  • Anonymous

    That was brutal

  • Dante Pakistan

    Let the Tebow apologists start!

  • Gbrider61

Tebow has a long way to go….period.

  • Anonymous

Tebow and the Broncos were terrible. I see a lot of upside with this team and a lot of growing pains. But, I remember growing up with the Denver Broncos being one of the best teams in the NFL for most of my life. From about 1984-2005, with a couple of hiccups, the Broncos did a great deal of winning. If a few losing seasons mean we have another stretch of excellence, I will gladly bear it.

  • Anonymous

I hate Tony Scheffler. Screw that dude. He wanted a trade and the Broncos were kind enough to get him to a team that he desired to be on  For him to come back and celebrate like that after his touchdown was friggin classless.  He looks like a clown with his new tatoos….what a whack ass busta

  • Gbrider61

I would love to see what this team would look like with a Top 10 QB?

  • Anonymous

This could be complete delusion, but I think we’re going to see it in the next couple years.

  • King

Still bad.  The defense gave up 37 points regardless of who is the QB.

  • King

    Meant to type “38”.

  • Anonymous

I disagree… I think he would celibrate like that any where! And he, like a number of others, wanted away from McD. Just as all of us did, I didnt blame him at all.

  • Gbrider61

It was 31 points but they were on the field all day. We were 2-14 on 3rd downs…

  • Anonymous

We have no RB, no QB, no TE to speak of and the OL is mediocre. The DL as a whole isn’t good, Fair to good LB’s (as of today) and ONE guy that can cover consistently in the secondary… For sure do not have the answer at QB on our team right now. And I agree that Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers would struggle on this team as well. Would it be better? Of course it would be, but they would for sure struggle over all just the same.

With this all said… I was 100% disgusted at how these yahoo’s on the local Fox Post Game show were questioning the players… wait… I mean totally badgering the other players about Tebow. They asked every player if Tebow should get the yank and if he was the reason the Broncos suck. I mean really wanting someone to step up and say “yeah he sucks”. That really bothered me personally. They had Ruben Droughns on there along with Chad Brown saying how bad he sucks… and they did say he is never going to get any better pretty much.

So as true as that may or may not be true it was really bad. Personally I say lets let Quinn toss a couple games. We know what we get with Orton and for the most part now with Tebow so lets let Quinn toss a couple…

  • Anonymous

He would do a mile high salute and mock the “Tebowing” thing anywhere?????

  • Gbrider61

I think thats a great idea…Quinn has never had a fair shot.

  • 12508

It’s going to get worse. We have no playmakers on this roster. Ge ready for some really bad games. Get the paper bags out.

  • 12508

Oh Thomas is doing such a great job. Sure glad we didn’t take Dez. Wouldn’t want a playmaker on this team. I would rather have a bunch of nice guys that would rather read the bible on Sunday.

  • BroncosNOSHOW

If the Defense gives up 38 points a game, the offensive line can’t block long enough to let a pass get thrown and the receivers can’t catch a ball that hits their hands, it doesn’t matter who you have in as quarterback, it is impossible to win!

And oh – Tebow’s record is 3 losses and 2 wins. Let’s give him a couple of years to see if he does better then Orton’s record of 4 wins and 18 losses.

He won his first start of the year last week and he lost this week. Give him a chance! He’s a winner, but he needs some players that want to win or know how to win on the Broncos Roster to help him do that.

Other then Champ Bailey and Eric Decker I don’t see any!

And yes, this is Josh McDaniels fault! He destroyed the Broncos for a long time coming.

It will take some time! As Tebow and the rest of the team will take some time.

    Give it time!

Tebow is a Winner and that is all that counts in the Win/Loss column at the end of the season. It’s not going to happen with Orton as we’ve seen the last two years. I agree, try Quinn, he won’t do any better then Tebow, if the rest of the team doesn’t show up to play.

A running quarterback can’t be great and win? There are plenty out there that have proved that wrong. Michael Vick, Cam Newton among others. Hmmmmm.

As I remember Elway wasn’t that great the first couple years he played either. It takes some time. Give Tebow some time!

See what he can do the rest of the year! My bet, with Tebow in there the record for the Bronco’s this year if he stays in, will be better then any of Orton’s season records for his whole football career.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

The last time we played the Detroit Lions (in 2007), we lost 44-7.  Today, we lost 45-10.

    I hate the Lions.

  • Audi

All those Tebow backing clowns are quiet now.  Dude is garbage again.

  • OrangeCrush

The best description I heard of Tim is that he’s a running back playing QB.
Remember he’s there to $ell $eats to the believers – not because of his skill set.

  • Audi

Really??? Tebow is a winner?  Against anything outside of prevent D he is a 30% completion clown.  HE IS BAD.  You can’t have it both ways.   Everyone says he is a great leader and makes everyone around him better.  NO HE CAN NOT.  This is the NFL. Not high school.  Not college. He is just a mediocre backup/wildcat QB that should not be anywhere near a starting job.

And everyone with the “he just needs time” card can go away.  Ponder, Cam, Dalton are all playing light years better than him with much less time.  And in some cases, even less talent.  He is a waste of a first round pick….just like most of the crap McDumbass drafted for us.

  • Gbrider61

Hopefully next year we’ll be able to buy Matt Barkley jerseys

  • AtomicLeo

I don’t like the sack totals: 6 last week and then 7 this week. Orton, the statue, had 9 sacks over 5 games. He’s too slow to read the defense and if you think a shorter/quicker passing attack will help, it won’t as long as Tebow takes 0.5-1s longer than most NFL QBs to read the D. Unbelievable. Thought the play calling was better this week, but just a complete failure from Tebow to the WR core on execution. I have no idea how they win a game the rest of this season unless Tebow speeds up his reads. Just terrible.

And the mocking? It was coming sometime. He’s had too much press and hype and the vets don’t like a guy getting that kind of love without preforming on the field. After this a** beating will be interesting to see how he responds on the road next week.

  • AtomicLeo

    Put down the Kool-Aid…..

  • AtomicLeo

Quinn was not active for the second week in a row. I think the FO is ready to move with him, too. Must be sucking in practice.

  • Gbrider61

Tebow keeps getting sacked 6 times a week, he’s not gonna finish the season.

  • Kramer37

Play Brady Quinn….Give him a chance…The other two QBs had their fair shot….You never know what you might have in Quinn….look at Fitzpatrick in Buffalo…Sometimes a second chance can go a long way.

  • Anonymous

Our Broncos are a horrible team right now! It is amazing that Tebow is getting all the blame and all the negative attention. Tebow needs to improve and he will. The whole team needs to improve. The O line sucks and they are giving up 6-7 sacks a game and 3 seconds of average protection a play, there is absolutely no running game, they are starting a receiver coming off a year layoff, and they have a rookie offensive coordinator with an one page playbook who could not call plays for your local high school team. Their defense cannot put pressure on anybody and they are giving up ridiculous plays like the first Detroit TD. Give me a break! Tebow, Luck or the God of QB’s the Broncos are a 4 win a year team. The hiring of John Fox, a glorified defensive coordinator with paleolithic football systems and philosophies was a TREMENDOUS mistake.

  • Dimitri

They all have better coaches and by far BETTER OFFENSIVE COORDINATORS!

  • http://twitter.com/Sinfix Anthony

Broncos need to stop pointing fingers. Instead of looking for a “fall guy” for their record and poor games they need to start holding each other up. Good thing is, it seems like even though the critics are ready to crucify Tebow in the streets at the first glimpse of failure, the broncos players understand the situation and our supportive.
I’m a life long Gators fan and obviously a Tebow supporter, i expected some growing pains with Tebow. I honestly dont understand why Denver fans expected to be a superbowl team or something as soon as Tebow got the start.
The Denver Broncos need help almost everywhere. This team is bad from every angle. It’s a massive weight to put on the shoulders of a young developing QB to right this ship in 2 games. He’s started 2 games this season as is 1-1 as a starter… on the first loss, you’re getting out your pitch forks……

Lets not get lost on the fact that Detroit has arguably the best DLine in the NFL and Denver has arguably the worst. There’s not a QB in the NFL who would have won the game for Denver today with the pressure Detroit got on the QB. Tom Brady would have lost today vs Detroit.

Did Tebow play bad? yes. Did he play terrible? yes.

    Here’s what i want to see………

The rest of the team playing well, the running game going well, Wrs getting wide open, the defense making stops……

and then Tebow ruining it for them.

Right now what i see is an entire team losing and the media looking to crucify Tebow as if hes the 2nd coming of christ or something.

I dont think ive ever seen so many personal attacks on a NFL player. Vick, Plax, Ray Lewis…. Big Ben…..  theyve never been attacked as much as Tebow. Oh well, i guess the highschool bullies do eventually grow up…… and become sports analyst.

  • Crater

Retarded offensive coaching. How hard is it? Throw a few slants and 3 step drops. Give the young QB confidence and rhythm. Set up outlets. Be creative, don’t retreat to the reeves antiquated play calling. Roll out. move the pocket. Go 2 minute drill when things get lethargic. Run Tebo on opportunity not by design. Be unpredictable. Don’t play like you are afraid of a mistake all of the time. Don’t adjust your terrible offensive scheme. Roll tape on successful mobile QBs that are analogous to Tebo’s skill set – Steve Young especially. Bring in some west coast. Adjust at halftime. Get the team in synch. Elway would flounder with this offensive scheme — if there is one.

  • anthony33

Agree.  Clearly Tebow is not ready and he is the only QB under contract for next year.  Give Quinn his shot.  They need to work with Tebow everyday and see if there is any development there.

If Quinn performs well you might be able to sign him, if not, so be it.  This would give Tebow another 10 months and a full blown training camp to get there.

I am now at point where I don’t think it will do any good, but seems like the only option that make sense right now.

With Barkley, Jones and Moore coming out (supposedly) in 2012, our future is with them unless another miracle trade and we end up with Luck.

  • stav

Tim Tebow’s future? Not as a QB, i like the guy and all, but he’s not the answer. Can we see if he can catch a football? Like another college qb who switched……Dallas Clark? I think we may be looking at one more win, maybe 2? If that’s the case, sign me up for my Matt Barkley jersey. I’ll take a pass on Landry Jones.

  • Anonymous

It isn’t only Tebow that has long way to go.  The offensive line has been horrible the past two games.  Can’t see really any QB performing well under that much pressure.  That being said when he had the time Tebow’s throws were horrible for the most part.  I never seen a QB be that inaccurate.  Yeah only two games, but I don’t see him improving enough to make a difference.  We definitely need to go after a QB in 2012 draft.

  • ronster

A month ago the Tebow backers were saying Orton was the issue and Tebow was the solution.  Now that the Tebow evidence is mounting and we see what a load of crap those opinions were, the Tebowers are saying the problem is other aspects of the team.  Come on guys.  Try not to be hypocrites.

  • Dooon

I have been a Bronco fan since 1967 and seen many Bronco QB’s come and go. Tebow may be a nice guy, good Christian, dedicated sportsman but it is pretty clear that Tim Tebow is going down in flames as an NFL caliber QB… The guy has a shotgun for an arm but in the NFL you have to have a rifle arm.
I believe Tebow will be gone in 2012, so soak him up while you can. SUCK for LUCK..  Miami has that one sewed up… I don’t believe were going to win many more games on the wing and a prayer that Tebow brings the Denver Broncos. Most of you are correct that this team has many more problems than just Tebow which include most facets of the game but many of these problems are amplified such as the O-Lines cannot protect effeciently when your QB holds the ball for more than 3.5 seconds. (8 sacks).  Your O-Line is over challenged when defense is daring Tebow to beat them with the pass with 8 guys in the box to stop the run.  Tebow missed defensive reads all day long.  Defensively, until late in the 4th quarter the Offense was 0 for 10 on 3rd down conversions.  That does not keep your defense off the field.   Tebow is way over his head with little hope to correct the his terrible foot work that builds upon his shotgun arm.  It will be nice when the Tebow era is over.Lets put Tebow on the Bronco shelf with Steve Tensi, Pete Lisk, Don Horn, Micky Slaughter, Norris Weese, Bubby Brister to name a few.

  • virginiabronco

I find it interesting that so far, most all of the posts avoid putting any of the blame on the coach and the offensive game plan.  I am not an apologist for Tebow.  I have always prefaced my remarks by saying I have no idea if he can be successful as a QB in the pros.  But (as I pointed out last week) it should be very clear to even the most vocal of Tebow haters and to any who watched the game that our coach Fox has no intenetion of changing his game plan to suit Tebow’s style.  These old coaches have one play book.  They rarely change to the style of the players.  They go get people who can play in their sytem.   Fox does not intend to allow Tebow to be successful. Like McD when he first arrived, It is clear to me that Fox now wants to find a new QB so that he can put his stamp on this team.  Fox sports just wrote an article on this stating Tebow was sabotaged.

So I now get it.  Instead of putting Tebow out there to get killed, just bench him for the rest of the season and trade the guy for a fourth round pick next year while he can still walk.  He deserves better.  It wasn’t his fault. The fans wanting him and you relunctantly gave him to us.  I see you are in charge now and you have proven your point to at least me.

This team is in such bad shape Peyton Manning at his best could only win 3 - 4 games here.  This team is in a perpetual rebuilding mode with a current coach that struggles to complete a sentence or a thought. Just listen to the guy!  Hello!  I don’t blame Elway and company for choosing Fox.  Who else where they going to get?  No one wanted the job.  Now I see why.

I have been a fan of this team since the 70’s.  I have never been this depressed with the team, the management, and dismal outlook for the future.  We are years from competing.

  • Dooon

Sorry, but Tebow cannot play at a NFL level.  Well maybe at fullback or tightend?  He made a bad team much worse with his his poor skill set.
His list of problems are his glaring TERRIBLE FOOTWORK AND HIS SHOTGUN ARM and his inability to read defenses.
Lets say he does not bring much fear to any defense with an arm that might hit the broadside of a barn.

  • Darwin

Excuse me but Andrew Luck would solve at least one problem and that would be having a great passer at Quarterback. A skilled passer solves many problems especially one like Luck who is also a student of the game. If the Broncos can’t get Luck there are going to be a few others that can come in and help them.  Let’s get real about what to do with the quarterback position.  Tebow is not the answer for the Broncos or anyone else.  It does not matter how hard he works (he is not a quick processor and practice is not going to change this fact).  The rest of this year is going to be painful but another good draft and some solid free agents can get the Broncos on the right track. A lot of draft experts are saying this next QB class is better than this year’s rookie class.  If this is the case we should be OK.

  • Anonymous

I agree but Tebow holds onto the ball way too long.

  • Anonymous

And the offense gave up the 14 points that the Lions would have needed to get the win.

  • Anonymous

He was always classless.  He spent more time celebrating than he did playing.

  • Anonymous

As I stated before “the Anna Kornikova of the NFL”.

  • Anonymous

And 4 weeks ago Orton got all the blame.  How is it that when Orton was under center he gave up too many sacks and the O-line did not suck?  Now suddenly the O-line sucks because Tebow cannot get rid of the ball?

  • virginiabronco

With all due respect, you are dilusional if you believe getting a QB will solve “many problems”. Yes we need a QB but we need a RB (probably 2), most of what makes up an offensive line, at least one more WR, a TE, a complete defensive secondary, at least one more LB, and a fieldgoal kicker that is accurate less than 38 yards.  And I am not convinced we don’t need a whole new coaching staff that can coach the game in 2012.

Getting a QB the coach will agree to work with is a start but this team needs a complete makeover.  AGAIN!

  • Anonymous

If you’re not a Tebow apologist why are you apologizing?
Tebow is inconsistent throwing the ball and he takes too long to read the defense.  This is a problem no matter what the game plan or the play calling is.  Furthermore it is positively ignorant to claim that Fox or any other coach on the staff does not want Tebow to be successful.

  • virginiabronco

It wasn’t an apology.  It was a confession of my realization that Tebow is not going to succeed here.  He may not succeed anywhere, but he certainly isn’t going to succeed here.

Please take a moment and read: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Tim-Tebow-John-Fox-sabotage-Denver-Broncos-in-loss-to-Detroit-Lions-103011.
Let them know they are ignorant too.
