During a team scrimmage at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on August of 2010, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow hit receiver and fellow rookie Demaryius Thomas on a beautiful fade route for a touchdown.

Witnessing the event live, I hoped it was a sign of things to come.

Just over a year later, the two former first round draft picks appear to have developed some rhythm.  Tebow targeted Thomas ten times on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, which resulted in three connections for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Many of Tebow’s passes were erratic ones, which partly explains why Thomas was thrown to ten times and only recorded three catches.  However, it was clear Thomas was Tebow’s go-to-guy and his accuracy got better as the game went on.

Thomas is available in 97.3% of Fantasy Football leagues on ESPN.com, and on Sunday scored eight points in standard scoring leagues.  As the season goes, Thomas’ numbers will most likely improve as he remains Tebow’s favorite target.

Thomas would be a nice pickup now if you are looking for a third receiver or if you just want to hold on to him and wait for him to get hot.  When he does get hot, Thomas will become a hot commodity in fantasy leagues.  Now is the time to claim him.

If Thomas can stay healthy, he has loads of potential.  I can see TT to DT becoming a great duo down the road.

For Tebow’s scrambling style of play, DT is a perfect receiver for him, someone that can post up and catch a ball when the play breaks down.  What boggles my mind and is very disheartning is the hate and venom spewed no matter what TT does.  I am not a Tebowite, nor a hater, I am a long time Bronco fan.  Since when have we not rooted for the underdog?  When did we quit supporting guys that worked hard, had a good attitude, and loved being a Bronco?  When did we start spouting venom at the clean cut “good guys” while speaking of second chances for all the Dog fighting, DUI collecting, wife beating, McDonald’s bag tripping, shoot yourself in the foot prima donnas?  When the hell did we accept “fans” calling for us to lose to get the player they feel is better?  Spew your hate at the idiot that picked him in the first round, the legions of blind followers, and the hype machine…but let the kid, the young man who has done nothing but go out and work hard everyday in practice, walk the talk, and keep a good attitude, let the kid play, and support your Broncos!

“idiot that picked him in the first round” “legion of blind followers” “hype machine”

ummm???? The idiot that picked him in the first round picked him because of the qualities you describe. I personally dont understand why a 2 time national champion who was on the Heisman ballot for 3 years being picked in the first round is such a huge stretch for everyone.

Legion of blind followers? why are his followers blind???? we’ve had 4+ years of Tim Tebow being a class act, saying and doing everything right, walking the walk and being a great example of not just a football player buy a human being….. we’re blind??? what it is we dont see?

Hype Machine??? what stories are being fabricated? All the “hype” around Tebow is for accomplishments and things he has already done……………  if anything there’s a de-hype machine… every analyst tries so hard to tell you that Tebow cant play, we dont need you to convince us… if he cant play, he wont win….. so far, all he does is win. Let the football talk and quit this campaign to say “i told you so” about Tebow being a failure.

You know what annoys me????? Denver Broncos fans who complain about Tebow. Denver has crippled Tebow development and all the negativity surrounding him there probably would have already broke the spirit of a lesser man than Tebow. If you supported the kid half as much as he tries to support Denver, than he would probably have a lot more confidence and less jitters when he steps on the field.

Denver has been a terrible football team for years…… its been a long time since you had John Elway so quit acting like Elway is the standard of quarterback for Denver. Quit acting like Tebow is some abandoned orphan child that you got stuck with and now you have to feed and clothe him. Having Tim Tebow on your team is not a burden, i wish (some) Broncos fans werent too stupid to realize this.

Agreed. I loved watching the Broncos play the last couple of weeks.  The defense especially.  The D has stepped up and is playing with fire again.  Good attitude and heart are contagious, Tebow has both of these… Cutler and Orton did not.

Tebow was not ready to just step in and play, should never have been picked in the first round.
the blind followers refuse to acknowledge that he has much work to do to consistently win (see first three quarters) and feel any negative discussion on him is a personal attack.
The hype machine is all the hype both negative and positive being generated to serve individual goals and not letting the kid get the coaching and time he needs to be successful.
Anthony, I like the kid, I hope he dominates the league, and I love my Broncos. If you read my post for what it was, you would have wholeheartedly agreed with it. To sum up my post it basically said we should be rooting for Tim because he stands for what Broncos players should be (blue collar, hard working, positive attitude) and he is our QB, forget all the other crap surrounding him and support your team. I in no way attacked Tebow, the player or the person, however, the Tebowites the haters and the analysts need to take it down about ten notches and let the kid play, create a body of work, and then form an educated opinion, not based on one game, a college career, or regurgitated opinions by the talking heads.

Broncos win!!! Orton was fine, he started losing, put in Tebow, great kid, good fire in his heart, if he starts to lose, put in Quinn give him a shot, I don’t care. Haters, supporters, whatever, how about the Broncos just start trying to win games??? D looked improved, but still a long way to go. Offense looked horrific, However THEY (Tebow included) Got the W!!
    GO Broncos!!!

Seems to me that the way to develop TT is to let him loose.  Take a page from the Carolina/Newton book and let him throw the ball all over the field and do his thing.  Then start working him in to what you want him to be long term.  He will learn much faster by using his strengths and having some success rather than being put into the McD offense, which is not him.

Just develop him backwards from the plan seems to be in place now.  He will learn soon enough of what will and won’t work with his style through his own trial and error.  If he gets killed a couple of times he’ll adjust on his own.

Which one of you guys put on another article’s post that Orton couldn’t even win the coin flip yesterday? That was classic…

Question of the day: since I don’t have a direct line to Archie Manning, Bill Walsh or any other QB-building legends, I have to rely on you all, my Broncotalk bretheren and sisters to answer something I cannot. Can the right people develop Tebow into a decent, pro-style QB? I mean spend months, breaking down his mechanics and rebuilding him into the type of QB that will not result in balls that skip 3 times before they get to the receiver or end up in the cheap seats? I tried to find some NFL analysts who I respect (former QBs and such, not that piece of sh*t Merrill Hoge) and listen to what they have to say but haven’t had much success.
I think if it’s possible to change him to a pro-style QB, we’ve got our guy of the future. I know he’s a positive guy who seems so well grounded in his ability and his beliefs, but can he stand up to the amount of garbage some of these jerks have been saying about him? Hope so, all around…

    Well said!

  • Matt

TD30isMVP, that is all fine and good but we need him to make sure he understands that he is not a QB, he is an H-Back. We can not afford to win a game like this when Miami is already winless and so is Indy. He can pretend he is a QB until he is blue in the face so long as we continue to suck for Luck or we put him on the practice squad and start grooming our real QB of the future, Weber, who should be our QB should we not get Luck. We should be focusing on getting this kid to realize that his work ethic could be better utilized learning to block and pass catch and trying to be something he is not.

  • Matt

Tebow was not ready to just step in and play, should never have been picked in the first round. -agreed! SUPER AGREED.The only thing you missed is…HE IS NOT A QB…this is like watching pitchers bat in the NL, every so often you get one with a decent bat but lets face it, we all prefer the DH.

  • Matt

Newton throws spirals…not wounded ducks there is a difference between a QB and an H-Back trying to be a QB. So you are comparing Apples and Oranges.

  • flbronc

yes he can be taught proper mechanics.  i don’t think the guy who can is on our coaching staff though.  i seem to recall, but have not looked for a link, gruden being in the camp that thought he could make the needed improvements in his game right around the draft.

not sure i would want him to be your typical pro-style qb… then we’d have another orton.  currently he is the anti-orton- we need to find somewhere in between. sure he needs to develop a better ball and better pocket presence, but i like his ability and willingness to tuck and run at the proper times.

I think that Tebow to Julius Thomas will eventually be a more lethal combination than Tebow to D.Thomas IMHO.

  • King

Not everyone prefers the DH.  If you take the field, you should have to bat.

To get on topic:  Go Broncos !

  • King

Newton throws picks.  Go look for yourself.  He is Vince Young Redux.

  • http://twitter.com/Sinfix Anthony

They all said the same thing about Steve Young. Denver will regret their mishandling of Tebow one day.

  • Anonymous

The “DH” is Kyle Orton…so no Matt, I really freaking don’t prefer the DH.  I will take the crappy stats and a win, or a pulse, or something to cheer about rather than Run, Run, throw the ball away.
