The Denver Broncos will take on the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.  Denver owns a 3-11-1 all-time record against the Dolphins and hasn’t beaten them since 2004.

“We won a Super Bowl in Miami, so we’ve won in that stadium,” Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said on Tuesday afternoon.

The Broncos will be looking for their 400th regular season franchise victory this week, aiming to improve their 399-368-10 (.520) all-time record.  The Broncos own a 16-6 all-time record following a bye week, while head coach John Fox owns a 6-3 record following a bye.

“It’s good news that (Head Coach) John (Fox)’s record is 6-3 after the bye,” said Elway.

Dolphins’ wide receiver Brandon Marshall played in Denver from 2006-2009, while Miami’s defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan, coached the Broncos defense during the 2009 season.  Broncos kicker Matt Prater (2007) and cornerback Andre’ Goodman (2006-2008) each spent time with the Dolphins.

Denver’s starting quarterback Tim Tebow has won two championship games at Sun Life Stadium — one at the high school level and one at the collegiate level.  In 2005, Tebow led Nease High School to a 4A State Championship before leading the Florida Gators to BCS National Championship in 2008.

“I’m very excited about it—not that it’s in Miami or in Florida,” said Tebow last week. “Just the opportunity to start for the Denver Broncos and that truly is an honor and a privilege.”

Tebow will make his fourth career start on Sunday and first against the Dolphins.  Going 1-2 as a starter, Tebow has completed 45-of-92 passes for 733 yards and six touchdowns against three interceptions in twelve career games.  Tebow has also rushed 50 times for 264 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and seven touchdowns.

Changing the topic, the Broncos signed defensive tackle Sealver Siliga to the practice squad on Monday and waived fullback Austin Sylvester to make room for the move.  The team also signed safety Rafael Bush, as we reported early Tuesday morning.

bad news… the ny jets signed riley off our ps.

i was surprised he didn’t get promoted to our active roster when we traded brandon lloyd since he and tebow seemed to click.

     Ditto, writing about it now.

I will be attending this game. Sun Life stadium is a dump and the Dolphin fans are even worse, there will be more Tebow fans than Dolphin fans in attendance. Every game I’ve been to, more fans of the opposing team have shown up. South Florida is a wasteland for sports teams.

    Suck for Luck!!!!

This is a bigger loss than most of us realize right now.  He should have been bumped up to our regular roster.  We let another one get away.

What an illogical comment: “The Broncos own a 16-6 all-time record following a bye week, while head coach John Fox owns a 6-3 record following a bye.”

So what?  Those teams aren’t anything like what we have now.  We very well may win (I sure hope so), but to make that statement like it has any relevance today seems like Mr. Elway is grasping at straws.

The statement about the Broncos post-bye record is merely an historical one while the fact that Fox is 6-3 suggests that he does a good job of getting his team ready during the bye week.

You fall prey to a common fallacy–accepting the average without analyzing the data.  Fox’s 3 losses after the bye were when the Panthers were sub .500 teams.  All of Fox’s wins–except one– were when the Panthers were .500 or better.

Now we could very likely beat Miami as they are win less, but the 6-3 stat needs the caveat that:  past returns are not indicative of future results.

Historical average is as good a barometer of future performance as any other academic pursuit.  Certainly valid as Jon is using it, if not strong enough for your average bookmaker.

Actually not, the average temperature for the month of October is unlike to yield the actual temperature for a given day.  One would have to look at standard deviation, factor in events of correlation and causation, and determine the dispersion of the data curve to even come up with an educated guess.  But hey, sure, your way is easier, right?
