Good news on the injury front this week in Dove Valley.  Three centerpieces of the Denver Broncos defense are expected to be back at practice tomorrow — Wednesday –  and possibly ready to go on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

Perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey (hamstring) is “iffy” for Sunday’s game against the defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers, reports Mike Klis of the Denver Post. While linebacker D.J. Williams and defensive end Elvis Dumervil should be ready to go after being close to playing last week.

Defensive tackle Marcus Thomas (groin) is also expected to be back at practice, but is questionable at best to play on Sunday.  Offensive weapons Julius Thomas (high ankle sprain), Demaryius Thomas (finger) and Eddie Royal (groin) should all be back by the team’s week seven match against the Miami Dolphins following Denver’s bye week.

Running back Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) is also expected to be back this week.  Moreno could have played Sunday but the coaching staff decided not to rush his recovery.

The Broncos defense couldn’t have picked a better time to get back to full strength. The Packers offense will prove to be a formidable foe for Denver’s improving defense.

Aaron Rogers has been sacked five times (the same number of sacks Denver’s defense has totaled thus far) and has only thrown one interception (which is one more than Denver’s defense has totaled thus far).

    Could be a long day…

    You’re the packers fan, right?

    No, that’s Kris Burke.

    Ha.  Right on.

My allegiance is to the Denver Broncos and to the Denver Broncos alone. Always has been and always will be.

Good stuff.  Hopefully Kyle’s got a muzzle on Burke this week.  ;-)

  • Just being honest…

I really don’t know at this stage in their career whether Bailey, Williams and Dumervil is that much of an upgrade over Vaughn, Woodyard and Ayers.

I expect Dumervil would be, but he is not up to his 2009 form by any means.

I like Woodyard a lot.  His leadership ability makes him a key player for me.  Bailey is just not once he used to be.

Flame away, but in one year I would bet Vaughn and Woodyard have stolen those starting positions.

I think you might be right about Woodyard taking over DJ’s spot.  He gets paid a lot and is getting up there for a linebacker.  However, Champ ain’t going anywhere.  Vaughn might start next year opposite Champ though

Why don’t the broncos sign Steve Slaton to add him to the running backs core?

  • flbronc

because he is a faster version of knowshon who fumbles more.

I’ve never been a big DJ fan. To me he’s an average LB on a unit that has been a disaster since Al Wilson retired. DJ was good for one thing, running RBs down after they gained 8-10 yards. Woodyard is smashing people at the line of scrimmage.

Bailey is a great player, but you can’t beat time. He’s in the late stage of his career. I’m sure D-back will be high on the want list for the 2012 draft. Vaughn has been meh. O.K. I suspect he’ll look better once we get pressure on QBs.

Ayers is a different kind of lineman than Elvis. He has really picked up his game on runs this year, but he’ll never be rusher Elvis is (Was?). If Elvis can’t make it back, we’ll need to draft a DE who can rush, and that will suck since I suspect the FO wants to go CB/DB in round 1 next year and QB in round 2.

The outcome of the game will depend on how much Elvis can contribute. If he’s back to full speed, I think we make the game in GB very interesting. If he’s not back, then Rogers and the TEs will have an outstanding days against our LBs who have been horrible in coverage this year.

Ayers is the starter opposite of Dumervil so that is irrelevant. DJ is only 29 yrs old and is our best run defender.. Vaughn over Champ? Are you kidding me? What games have you been watching?

I’m a die hard Broncos fan, and have ever been. Nevertheless, this Sunday I’ll praise Clay Mathews to go after Orton’s head, to see if that way we finally get rid of him!

Bailey is the man and he just has a knack for being in the right place at the right time and he can read a QB better than any other corner in the league. Woodson is his only comparable counterpart in the league in my opinion. Cant wait to have him back!
