A new weekly segment giving you a snapshot of the fantasy landscape. Pick-up of the Week, Start of the Week, Sit of the Week, and The Broncos Beat.

(Editor’s Note: I’ve wanted to incorporate fantasy football into the blog for awhile now and have tried before. The problem is, week-to-week, covering Broncos in fantasy football gets a little repetitive. “I expect Kyle Orton to throw two touchdowns but fumble twice blah blah blah.” So this is my attempt to pen a quick fantasy column that will actually be useful and garner interest, based on what I can find around the web. Let me know what you think.)

Michael Vick

Pick-up of the Week:
QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia
(at STL)
(This’ll usually be a waiver wire pick-up).
From Matthew Berry, ESPN

Here’s my argument as to why Vick is not only worth a first-round pick, and not only should be the No. 1 quarterback taken, but should be the No. 1 pick overall. It’s actually very simple.

If Michael Vick is as good as he was last season and stays healthy all year, you win your league. Period. And he’s the only guy you can say that about.

Matthew Stafford

Start of the Week:
QB Matthew Stafford, Detroit
(at TB)
From Brad Evans, Yahoo!

This week, look for the sleeping Lion to roar loudly in his 2011 debut. Aqib Talib and ageless wonder Ronde Barber are key components in the Buccs’ secondary. Despite Barber’s 36-year-old body, the unit is above average as a whole. Last year, it surrendered just 6.4 yards per attempt and the third-fewest 20-plus yards pass plays in the league. Still, Calvin Johnson is an untamable beast who would give the ’85 Bears’ defensive backfield fits. Combine that with Tampa’s thin presence up front, and it could be a lights out performance for No. 9.

Michael Vick

Sit of the Week:
TE Zach Miller, Seattle
(at SF)
(Yes, I picked Miller because of the Broncos game last year).
From Jamey Eisenberg, CBS Sports

Like the Rams, the 49ers were also tough on opposing tight ends and allowed the fewest Fantasy points to the position in 2010 while also allowing just three touchdowns. Miller has lost plenty of Fantasy appeal with his move to the Seahawks, and he cannot be trusted in Week 1 with the way Tarvaris Jackson has played.

The Broncos Beat
(Projections from FFToolbox, using standard scoring).

Kyle Orton: 15.6 pts, 16th
Knowshon Moreno: 12.7 pts, 13th
Willis McGahee: 5.9 pts, 43rd
Brandon Lloyd: 10.5 pts, 12th
Matt Prater: 8.6 pts, 11th
