John Fox   Tim Tebow

The Denver Broncos issued an informal response to the latest media-driven circus surrounding Tim Tebow Tuesday, courtesy head coach John Fox.

“First of all, I would like to say that nobody in this building that is in the decision-making process—coach, official, or I don’t know, maybe they heard it from the cook… I’m not sure, but we hold Tim in high regard,” Coach Fox said. “I think he’s got a bright future in this game. He’s playing maybe the hardest position I know in the NFL there is to play, and maybe in all of sports. He’s progressing fine…. Everybody in this building has high regard for Tim Tebow, and Tim’s doing just fine. There’s no update on where his ranking is at this point by any official.”

Fox reiterated his and the club’s stance on Tebow, leveling Silver’s supposed source .

“I don’t think, if you read it correctly, that it said anybody in the organization. It just said a knowledgeable football person—that could have been a wide range. Like I said, it could have been the chef; he sees the players every day.”

It’s about time the Broncos did something to settle the madness. Some folks were even suggesting it was Fox or even John Elway giving Silver his soundbites… Fox is clearly denying that. We’re content to let Tebow fight Brady Quinn for second string duties and move on to some real Broncos football…

Everyone needs to calm down with this QB crap…At least all our QBs are improving.  Are we really surprised Orton is starting?

Just be glad Renaldo Hill is gone and hopefully Nate Jones is right behind him.

Let's do a piece on who will feel the best to cut…It has to be Nate Jones.

Glad to see Fox step up and offer some support.  Good, bad or indifferent… the kid does not deserve the beating he's been taking for no apparent reason.  It's all driven by Quinn playing before him last week.  Hardly seems reason enough to say he'll never be any good.

  • Jackson3793

Exactly!  It's just overreaction after overreaction with this whole QB “controversy” thing.  Quinn takes reps in the 2nd preseason game ahead of Tebow and all of a sudden it's “Tebow's going to be cut!”  Quinn got his reps because he played well in the first preseason game and the coaches wanted to see a bit more out of him.  Doesn't mean they plan to do anything with Tebow.  In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Tebow get the 2nd string duties against Seattle, and maybe come in for a 1st string rep or two–testing the Wild Horses (seriously, why can't they call it the Wildcat?) formation or something.

I just think it's funny how the fans and media are going crazy about this, but any time they ask one of the players / coaches, they look at the reporter like they're crazy.  I really hope the South Park folks get ahold of this and make fun of the situation, might defuse it a bit.

I don't know why it would be bad to have three QBs om the roster who can start. With the expanded roster we can do just that. Seems to me like a nice problem to have. How many other teams can say that? Besides, is it really gonna matter if we're winning? I don't care who the QB is.

Broncos Vice President of Public Relations Jim Saccomano had this to say:

“Hit and run journalists, which are plentiful, only speed development of team-only media….

“A serious concern for teams is granting access to outlets that provide
incentives to writers based on page clicks. That is a problem.”

  • Claudia

    very nice !

  • TD30isMVP

Exactly Jon, two words…Tim Tebow, put those words in an article and you get the hits.  Hoge has figured this out and used it ad naseum.

  • Troyn

That's what I'm trying to figure out about guys like Hoge and Esiaison, are they really so lacking confidence in their own abilities to get ratings by providing relevant analysis, that they feel they have to pile on this kid without any real facts?  No doubt TT gets ratings, but some of the criticism seems to be pure hate.  I mean, when Woody Paige is the voice of reason (excellent article in today's DP), then people are really engaging in extremist journalism.

What I want to know is what we have planned for next year. Is there a stud DT we could have a shot at in the 2-10 range of the draft? Would players we picked up this year impact our desire to draft a DT if our defense was vastly improved? If Vickerson, Bunkley, et al tear it up, do we look for a new position, and what position would that be?

  • TD30isMVP

I liked Hoge, however, he usually hates the Broncos which makes sense since it was a rivalry team from his days of playing.  His first texts on Tebow were about his speeches and other crazy things which means to me that he just can't stand the kid.  Boomer was a QB so I did perk up and listen when he spoke, but it would seem that unless you fit the prototype of an NFL QB you just have to play well enough to quiet the critics (Flutie, Testeverde, Young, Collins).  Harbaugh was known as “Captain Comeback” for his scrappy style of play and I think TT is more like him, not pretty but fun to watch.

  • Big_Pete

Like Scott Hastings said on the radio yesterday. If it's week 5 and we aren't talking about the QB situation, it means that our team is doing really well. If however, we are still talking about the QB situation, that means that our season isn't doing very good, and we are in big trouble.

  • Dakota Fan

I've been a Tebow critic and I am doubting Tebow's ability to start at this moment. However, he just needs time and I think he'll be fine. Besides, who the hell places any stock in what Merrill Hoge has to say? I don't care if he played for 9 seasons. He played for the Steelers, which makes him automatically hate the Broncos. And the ties he wears look stupid. And Boomer Esiason? He's just a few degrees less annoying than Joe Theismann's whiny, fingernails-on-the-chalkboard voice but they anoint him as a NFL genius.

  • big daddy24

tim tebow is the qb that the broncos neede to have a good season this year

  • herc_rock

He's really throwing that chef under the bus, eh?

Seriously though, what's Fox supposed to say in this situation?  That the guy sucks?

  • Baddog_500

Sports critics & analysts make comments about a player or players for one reason and that is to convince us that these players aren't ready to assume the position because their not experienced enough, which in Tim Tebows case they'd be right.  I agree Boomer is a little harsh with his analyst, but what does that make you….the greatest expert Armchair QB analyst ever !
Tebow was given a lot of freedom to play the game when he was at Florida, but just because he won a Heisman and National Championships doesn't make him the starter of the Broncos automatically, or because all you say so because he sold the most jerseys last year.
It's the Head Coaches decision to make, not you, based on what he sees and determines what is best for the team no matter what position it is on the field.   Football isn't a popularity contest.    Until you've proven it and put your heart and soul in that team and years in the League…it's who can compete the hardest for that position and if your skills aren't better than the other players your not going to get the starting job to play every Sunday.
The incentive here is to bring your A-Game to practice everyday…work on your weakness'… and improve, so when your number is called your ready to play & win each and every Sunday.
Rod Smith is the proof in the pudding, from practice squad to Super Bowl Champion.

I really don't know why these guys,(the Media), hate Tebow so much, maybe it's a Godless heathen, anti-Christian thing, but it's plain as day for all to see, just look at the coverage compared to say,Cam Newton, other than a few plays that always seem to make the highlight reels , the guy has absolutely sucked ,and then You look at Tebow ,if You just watched and listened to the Media You would never know that Tim has already tied an all time NFL record by throwing and running for touchdowns in four straight games last year, despite the fact he only played in four games!,and this last week, while Newton was on every highlight reel running for a score despite his otherwise lousy performance and losing badly ,Tim passes well, no interceptions, and has a 19 yard run to set up the game winning field goal, but what makes his highlight reel and is shown again and again by those geniuses in the media? , his fumble.Like I say,I don't know what their problem is, but they definitely have one.
