It was previously reported that free agent running back Willis McGahee had signed with the team, that has since been retracted. Although he has not officially signed yet, it appears McGahee will, he just has to wait until 4 PM (MT). With that in mind, here’s some film that may worry fellow Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno.
See film analysis and more videos after the jump.
In the above video, McGahee does two things Moreno rarely ever accomplishes: breaks into the second level and is physical with a defensive back (and even scores). That play shows nearly every reason the Broncos signed (or are going to sign?) McGahee. He has break away ability, is a tough runner (his stiff arm is a killer) and finds the end zone.
Yes, he is going to turn 30 during the season and yes, he may not have many more productive years left in his tank, but McGahee will if nothing else, push Moreno to play harder. Who knows, maybe this will finally cause Knowshonto break out, competition always makes you better. And McGahee would have you know, he does have some gas left in his tank.
In the above video, McGahee’s O-line opens up a hole allowing him to break into the secondary, where he once again gives a defensive back a stiff arm and scores. Running rough-shot seems to be an area where McGahee specializes.
Willis has everything the Broncos backfield has been missing — a tough back that can score down near the goalline. Also a receiving threat, McGahee seemingly does it all.
Surely by now you’ve realized that I’m a of McGahee and the upcoming deal. This gives depth to the Broncos backfield and brings back a toughness the team has been lacking, for a reasonable price. We’ll see if McGahee is on the field tomorrow at practice, stay tuned.
