Oklahoma S Quinton Carter

Oklahoma S Quinton Carter

The Denver Broncos started off day three using the second of their the three picks they acquired by trading with the San Francisco 49ers in the second round.

Amidst local clamoring and blog chatter questioning the lack of defensive tackles on Denver’s list of 2011 draft picks the Broncos selected safety for the second time this draft. Quinton Carter out of Oklahoma.

“Quinton Carter is a big, strong safety who we had rated very high on our draft board. happy that he fell to us and is a Bronco,” John Elway tweeted seconds after the pick was announced.

Carter (6’1″, 208 lbs.), a 2010 All American who can play either strong or free safety he collected 88 tackles and four interceptions to finish out the year on the 2010 Jim Thorpe Watch List.

Another safety? Sure Denver has some age there, but they also have a lot of youth. What say you Broncos Country?

Wow. So far, every pick besides Moore i have hated at first, then slowly started to like more. Interesting

out with the old in with the new agressive players orange crush will be back

Hope they can stay healthy. Not much luck with the young safeties staying healthy last couple years.

    I agree.

    Can he play DT too?

Yes they have young guys at safety but they suck. None of them are cornerstones, so if you think you can get some great safeties here than you have to do it.

I know everyone keeps talking about D-line but we also suck in the at safety also. This is the problem when you have a roster with holes every where.

This man is a STUD!! Solid tackler who is a reliable last line of defense because of his athleticism and aggressive style. Is an intimidating presence, loves to lay the wood on the sideline and over the middle (will get penalized for big shots late, was actually thrown out of practices for being too jacked up). Will be the second or third man into the pile, forcing it backwards on most occasions by bringing his hips and keeping his feet moving. Comes in high on some tackles, grabbing shoulder pads and allowing shorter or stronger players to slip away Has the speed and playmaking ability to be an effective two-deep centerfielder. Closes to the ball in a hurry to make bone-jarring hits, forcing fumbles or incompletions.

I am happy with this pick and Moore as well. I feel we have two great safetys for future reference and both that can hit and finish plays!! Brian Dawkins has also decided to help them out a lot as well as Champ!

Our needs were so great after years of questionable drafts, under both Shanahan and McDaniels, that one draft would never have been enough to plug all the holes completely.

But at some point, the Broncos scouts and executive staff must be held accountable for their inexplicable bypassing at least one selection at their most obvious need on the defensive line.

I acknowledge that this opinion matters only to me, certainly not the organization, but a draft that I would have otherwise graded at an A-, must be downgraded one half point for each of the 4 rounds where there were impact players on the defensive line available, only to see them select at another position.

To see them make NO selections at the position where they are weakest, leads me to give them an overall grade of C-. I am optimistic that they will fill those glaring needs from “the next player pool”, as Fox describes it, free agency, if there is such a thing in the future.
    .
They still need to prove themselves to the fans after this questionable performance. They left a BIG hole wide open.

we probley drafted 2 starting safetys for the next decade and probley at least 3 pro bowlers as much as we need a defenceive tackle we got are second biggest need and von miller is going to inpact us at the start he will win rookie of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see this as a great draft. There is the obvious Miller and Moore. But Irving and Franklin will probably be 10 year starters. If Carter can come out and and make some noise that would be a bonus. Of the two tight ends, I expect  one to emerge as a starter. Possible  6 starters, WOW, now that is a great draft class. A+
