According to National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson, LSU corner Patrick Peterson is set to meet with an array of NFL teams at the Senior Bowl, one of them being the Broncos. This would be entirely normal if he was in fact a senior. However, Peterson is a junior at LSU and has declared for the draft this year. Despite this technicality Peterson is still down in Mobile, Alabama for this year’s game. Rather than practicing and running drills, Peterson will be shaking hands with NFL coaches and general managers across the league. You got to admire the guy’s ambition.
If Peterson is selected by the Broncos at number two overall, he would the the highest corner selected since Charles Woodson (4th overall, 1998 draft) and the highest corner drafted of all time. This feat would not be at all surprising to Peterson who has said himself that one of his goals is not only to be the highest corner taken this draft, but the highest defensive player as well.
“My goal is to be the highest defensive player and the highest cornerback taken,” Peterson said. “I have to go to this combine and perform well and hopefully I can be a No. 1 pick.”
Some consider a corner at such a high selection would be a reach. However, Peterson is 6’1, 222 pounds, has mach-six speed, and a playing career to back it up. It is not unfathomable that this phenom could win over his doubters. With the uncertainty of Champ Bailey‘s future Denver could in the market again for a #7 wearing college phenom to help change their losing ways.
What do you think Bronco Nation? Are you a fan of Patrick Peterson at number two? Are you a fan at all?
