2011 NFL Draft Order — The Denver Broncos will draft 2nd overall in April’s 2011 NFL Draft following their 4-12 2010 regular season record.

The Carolina Panthers will draft first. The Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills will draft third and fourth respectively.

If the Broncos don’t trade down, it’ll be the highest position the Broncos have drafted in franchise history. To say 2010 was an underwhelming season would be an understatement.

To say we would be upset if the Broncos draft anything but a defensive player with that 2nd pick would be an understatement as well.

I'd really like to see a trade down to draft, say, 3 defensive players, but maybe there's a real winner available at #2.

  • Ryan K.

Give us Luck!!! C'mon Elway, there is no way you watch Tebow and see shades of an elite QB, but when you look at Luck, it must be like looking in the mirror.

  • kerry

Patrick Peterson, Marcel Dareus, or Andrew Luck at 2 would be just fine.

If luck doesn't go to Carolina, I would be shocked to see Denver pass him up.

best draft sight on the web IMO

  • flbronc

if luck is there when we pick, we need to get on the horn with some qb starved teams and ask for a boatload of picks and trade down. otherwise take the best defensive player avail- both of your examples are good but I think Bowers is a solid choice as well.

  • crazykid

for possibly the first time, i agree with you. Patrick Peterson all the way!

  • crazykid

we could draft him and do what the Chargers did in 2004 w/ Eli Manning. We would trade him for a motherload of picks and gets substantial defensive talent in return…

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

So just FYI, as near as I can tell our draft looks like this:

    1st round: Ours
    2nd round: Ours, Miami's (#15)
    3rd round: Ours
    4th round: None
    5th round: None
    6th round: New England's
    7th round: Ours

So we're very very top-heavy and have *nothing* in the middle of the draft. New England's 6th rounder is so late it's more or less a 7th rounder, so really we more or less have 4 valuable draft picks and 2 longshots.

We've really got to trade down and get some more in that 3-4 range if we can.

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

In addition, we need to work on the future. We're so barren for in the range of guys in the 2-5 years of experience that I really feel like we need to try and get some big drafts for the next 2-3 years.

If I were Elway and I could swing the trade, I'd trade our #2 pick for a 2nd and a 3rd this year and a 1st + whatever else I could get next year. Or #2 for a late 1st and a 2nd this year, plus a 2nd and late stuff next year.

  • crazykid

the 4th and 5th round hurts my eyes.
Do you think we'll resign Maroney for that 4th rounder? NO!!

Syd might pan out, but we cut Kirlew so that 5th rounder is basically a waste too.

  • waylon

What is that based on? Tebow had the superior college career and has shown strong presence in his first three starts. Luck has had 1 exceptional college season, and a lot of hype from the same draftnicks that had Locker pegged as the second coming of elway just six months ago.

I wasn't a fan of the tebow pick last year, but I've been impressed with his first three starts. His numbers are well above average for a rookie qb making his first nfl starts, and it seems like he has a lot of the intangibles that elway showed early in his career. Also seems like he has the respect and support of his teammates.

I know that Luck is getting a lot of hype right now, but he's still an unknown quantity and the broncos have MUCH bigger needs on defense. Also, the fail rate for first round QBs is very high.

Not trying to be a jerk, just genuinely curious why so many people are pushing for Luck when Tebow has had a more than respectable beginning.

  • Dbroncs24/7

Couldn't agree with you more, Tebow has a ways to go but has impressed and is as much a leader as I've ever seen, something we haven't had since Elway. Mel Kiper practically orgasmed when talking about Locker before the season, so him being all over Luck doesn't surprise me.

  • kerry

ive watched Bowers alot. and he is exactly like Carlos Dunlap out of Florida. TONS AND TONS of talent and upside. but doesnt have the work ethic to fulfill that talent. plus he is a 4-3 DE, and unless we switch back to the 4-3, the better D-line choice is Marcel Dareus out of Alabama. he has great strength, great athleticism, can hold the point of attack when stuffing the run. Bowers cant hold the point of attack well. a pure pass rusher. so unless we move to the 4-3 then id say Bowers wont be the pick for us. if Luck is there perhaps the Bills, Vikings, Dolphins or Redskins would give us the farm for him. i wouldnt cry if we traded down just a couple, got some picks and took Dareus or Patrick Peterson.

  • Pathfinder7781

Oh, I don't know, crazy. A fifth rounder for Squid seems like a good deal to me. He has become a pretty good corner. We have to temper our expectations based on the scheme and the coaching these guys received. I happen to think that guys like Squid will be pretty good once he has some good coaching (like most of our players they need more than one season with a good coach to even touch their potential)

  • RCT930

We desperately need a stud D lineman but at 6'2 and 215 Patrick Peterson is a bigger Deion Sanders. If you view his highlights, he looks like a 4.3 40 guy. I don't know what his official 40 time is, but he is very fast. And he's a great return man too. It will be hard to pass him up because he is as close to a sure thing as you can get.

If we pass on him I wouldn't be surprised if we took Fairley over Bowers because he's a lot bigger and plays like a monster against the run and pass. Of course, whether we stick with a 3-4 or go to a 4-3 will play a role in which DL we select, too.

  • Rob_Bronco

Trade out of the #2 spot and pick up a middle 1st round pick and a 2nd rd pick. If Tebow is the QB of the future, trade Brady Quinn for a 4th or 5th rd pick or trade Orton for a 2nd/3rd round pick.

  • crazykid

dont get me wrong; Syd is one of my favorite players. Every time he's on the field, I jump up and down and go “Look Syd's on the field!!” I was really excited he beat out Alphonso Smith for that final cut.

BUT…i'm not totally sure he's worth the 5th round pick and Kirlew got cut like i said, so i'm not sure giving up a 5th was worth it.

  • flbronc

was at the citrus bowl yesterday and darius is a beast. #2 might be a little too high for him though. if we traded back a couple and were in the 5-10 range, i would take him. otherwise patterson or bowers. i think bowers would transition better than you expect. i have watched him a bit too. have not read anything in regards to his draftability thought- but if work ethic is a worry it will surely come out.

  • crazykid

dang Kerry! your 2 for 2 with me so far. I absolutely agree w/ the work ethic point. He's a one year wonder like Ayers (who's still young) and he fits the 4-3 scheme. I would pass on him if i was in charge.

  • flbronc

unfortunately i think you are overvaluing both guys. i think that a fourth is the best we could get for orton- maybe a third. quinn is a 7th if anyone will even take him.

  • JMACK404

I PRAY FOR ANDREW LUCK. JOHN ELWAY IS AN HONORARY CAPTAIN AT THE ORANGE BOWL. THEY SAY HE WILL TRY TO RECRUIT HARBAUGH TO BE OUR NEXT HEAD COACH, MAYBE THEN ANDREW LUCK WILL REFUSE TO PLAY FOR THE PANTHERS. KEEP ORTON AS A SOLID BACKUP AND TUTOR AND TRADE TEBOW FOR WHATEVER DRAFT PICK SOMEONE WILL GIVE US

  • TheTroglodyte

Resign Champ so we don't need to draft a CB in the 1st.
Trade down for 2 1st round spots and add a 3rd 2nd round pick.
Trade Orton for a 3rd round pick.

    1st Round
    Ryan Kerrigan
    Stephen Paea

    2nd Round
    Jared Crick
    Jerrell Powe
    Ryan Williams/LaMichael James

    3rd Round
    Rashad Carmichael
    Deunta Williams

  • Ryan K.

What is my comment based on Waylon? Well how about Tebow's lack of accuracy. His train wreck wind up. His questionable decision making. His tendency to pull the ball down quickly and just run with it.

Bottom line is anytime I am watching a game and the announcers have to say enthusiastically “That's a good throw!!” anytime the QB makes an ordinary pass, than you are in trouble. I get it that everyone wants Tebow to excel, in fact I wish we could put Cutler's talent inside a person like Tebow, but this just not reality. Tebow just can't make the tough touch passes that a guy like Luck can.

  • crazykid

April Fools Day is in 3 months buddy

  • samba

tebow haters hes not going no ware he is the future

  • Vince_marine

Kerry, we've had our spats this year, but I couldn't agree with you more!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_O3MYWZGDBQKL33RKV6X3ZEDVGI John

I never thought I would say this, but I agree with you, Kerry…with the exception of Luck. Either of the first two would be good, and I would actually favor us returning to a 4-3 at this point.

  • Vince_marine

Trading Orton will help get us pick in those middle rounds…I don't see us getting anything higher than a 4th round pick.

  • Vince_marine

    Kirlew was a 7th not a 5th.

  • robtink242

It seems we all share the common view of trading down.. Without a doubt we must stock up on picks to restore this franchise.. Peterson out of LSU the guy is an animal.. Andrew Luck is not going to be a Bronco.. Tim Tebow is my reason.. first of all we are rebuilding no secret there.. we aren't who we use to be.. so in order to keep the stands full Tim Tebow comes into play..

So to reality we must stock up this team with young talent.. Peterson is a pick you cant pass up on.. But we CANT neglect the D-Line especially at the NT position.. if we do convert back to a 4-3 defense Albert Haynesworth is worth a shot.. his value has dropped.

  • NavyBSU_fan

Sorry, I posted as Pathfinder7781. I am not sure that we will know for a few more years if Syd was worth a 5th or not. To early to tell. Getting any production from a 5th is something to be happy about. For the last few years getting production from a 1st round pick (one not named Tebow) would be reason to be ecstatic.

  • Vince_marine

All I can say is defense, defense, defense. I would def trade Orton for a 4th rd pick and Quinn for a 5th or 6th. That would help us out in those middle rounds. I would keep the second pick and get the best available defensive player. It's hard to say whether or not we will play a 4-3 or 3-4 next year, so there is some debate there. Regardless we need a pass rusher and run stopper. I think a Fairley would fit that bill. If not him, def Patrick Peterson!!! This pick needs to work!

  • NavyBSU_fan

Coach McD traded a 5th from this year for two 7th rounders from last draft. We took Syd and Kierlew with those picks. I, for one, am glad we did. I would not have wanted to lose Syd to another team as a college free agent.

  • NavyBSU_fan

I could be happy with this scenario. i would be happy with any two that you mentioned for the 2nd round. My preference would be Jerrel Powell and Jared Crick. I am not that sold on LaMichael James. Boise State has a Senior named Jeremy Avery who is a LaMichael James clone only he has produced for 4 years and will most likely be a late round or college free agent. Much better value for a Darren Sprolles type of player. (whoever picks up Avery will be a very happy team)

  • vince_mairne

    Awww…..I see. My bad!

  • NavyBSU_fan

Let me just say that I am not sold on LaMichael James for the draft pick we are going to have to use to get him. I just think that there are identical players who can be had at a better price because they come from a smaller school. (and because, as my user name implies, I am a total Boise State homer. But this time I am right.)

  • anthony33

Agree, trading down a few spots and still getting Peterson plus a D lineman would be a major coup.

Tebow showed enough in three games to be excoted, but it is imperative they bring in someone that can really work with him.

  • anthony33

I could Orton being dealt for another #2. I would entertain picks for Moreno as well.

  • anthony33

    The Maroney deal… ugh… what a stiff.

  • NavyBSU_fan

Seems like Tebow would have had a rookie year pretty comparable to Peyton Manning, Brett Farve, and John Elway had he started all 16 games.

Very few QB's start out like Rothlesburger, Ryan, and Flacco. Their great starts require a great team around them and great coaches that can minimize the rookie mistakes. The Broncos had neither this year. Hopefully they will next year. Basically Tebow's 2nd rookie year.

  • anthony33

Really? After the year he had I would think maybe a 2… then again he's proven once again that putting up decent numbers does not necessarily translate to wins. Still, I would think at least a 3???

  • NMBronc

Someone will trade up to pick Luck if he is available.

  • TheTroglodyte

I mean draft both Crick and Powe. We already have 2 2nd round picks so if we add 1 more that gives us 3.

  • NMBronc

And gentlemen, that is how you hug it out online. lol.

  • TheTroglodyte

Basically if we have 3 picks in the 2nd, I think the 3rd one should be used on the best RB left available. I don't think James is coming out until next year anyway.

I agree with you on Avery

  • anthony33

Agree with most of what you said there robtink242… that is until you got to the Hayneworth comment. NFW…. complete slug.

  • anthony33

I have a feeling the next HC will be Fassell (sp) or Mularkey.
