Following a 24-23 comeback victory over the Houston Texans Sunday, there’s plenty to be excited about in Broncos Country.

  • Receiver Brandon Lloyd now has 1,360 rec. yards this season for the second most in team history for a year.  (Rod Smith had 1,602, in 2000).  [Broncos PR man Patrick Smyth]
  • This season (eight games, two starts), rookie quarterback Tim Tebow has gone 25-of-46 through the air for 449 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while adding 30 rushes for 133 yards and 5 touchdowns.  [NFL.com Stats]
  • “No matter what Tebow does,” linebacker Mario Haggan said, “good things seem to happen.” [DenverBroncos.com]

If you haven’t been watching this all night like myself, enjoy:

  • TD30isMVP

I did not want to draft Tebow, figured he would take too long to be a good QB in the pro's. The more I see and the more I read the more I like this kid. He is not the next Elway, he is the next Tebow, this kid is passionate and humble and loves the game. Tebow plays with fire and veterans want to play hard for him, they want him on the field, they are excited to play with him…folks that is substantial. The talking heads can't judge heart or the impact a player can make with his leadership and passion. An athlete that stays late on the practice field, stays late watching film, works harder than everybody else in practice, an athlete that has no felonies or future court dates, doesn't slip on McDonalds bags, or cry because his coach is gone, should be rooted for and cheered for and wanted on our Broncos team.

  • flbronc

ESPN and AP are reporting what we already knew, Tebow is going to start Sunday vs the Chargers per Coach Studesville.

  • cj

ORANGE JERSEYS!!!!! Cant wait to bring back the real Orange Crush

  • Paradisimo

Am I the only one that has found the lack of reporting by ESPN on Tebow's game yesterday a bit odd? I mean here's a guy who was the most talked about player of the draft and who EVERYONE seemed to have an opinion on. Now the kid starts his second NFL game and throws for 300 yards and scores two TD's to lead his team to a 4th quarter victory and not a single article about it?!?! Had he thrown 4 INT's I guarantee it would have been front page. I think the morons at ESPN just don't want to look bad since nearly all of them projected Tebow to be a failure. Just makes it all the more sweet to see him succeed!!

  • flbronc

as a matter of fact, i was kind of surprised that there wasn't more made of it. i'm not of the same opinion that they want him to be a failure, in fact i think that they want the opposite. he is a huge ratings boost… people either love him or hate him- but either way, people talk about him.

  • Paradisimo

I don't know, I think they're afraid to make some of their NFL “analysts” look bad. If they miss that badly on a guy like Tebow it certainly hurts their reputation as talent evaluators. I agree with you that Tebow is a huge ratings booster either way but that's why I found it so odd that there wasn't any article about his performance. I can understand no front page article but there wasn't even one on the NFL landing page.

  • flbronc

nah, there are plenty of tebow supporters at espn- gruden for example… they know their talent evaluators are going to miss on a couple here or there- otherwise mel 'the haircut' kiper would be out of a job.

  • The Mascot Army

I totally agree and totally notice that, even after the Oakland game. It was like a Tebow blackout.
Sure, maybe they are covering him as much as they should, but it is very different from what they had been doing-especially considering they used to have a Tebow zone web page.
    Here are my three theories:
1-New Anti-Tebow guy calling the shots
2-They want no talk of Tebow before their draft extravaganza because all their experts are likley going to have egg on their face.
3-They are making some sort of conscious decision to only cover stuff that is relevant to the NFL football season, which doesnt include non-playoff teams with really bad records.

Maybe it is a combination of all three.

And I feel jipped that ATH and PTI wont be back until Jan3 and so will probbaly not talk about him either.

  • Paradisimo

I remember after the Oakland game they had a link about Tebow's performance but when you clicked on it it went to a dead page. I can smell the fish in the air for sure.

  • anthony33

Why give a damn about what those pinheads think?

Yes… Orange jerseys. I want to orange pants with those on special occasions too. And I LOVED when Tebow referred to Mile High as MILE HIGH!!!!

  • TheTroglodyte

The ESPN and NFL network crew are the same ones who bashed the McD hire non-stop and then clamored about what a mistake it was to fire him.

Watch, if Tebow struggles against SD they will be all over the “I told you so's”. Yet Sam Bradford has blown FIVE 4th quarter leads because he couldn't march his team down the field for a score but he is still touted as “great” because all of the pundits declared him that way along time ago.

Dukes, Kiper, LaConfora, Clayton, all of those guys are so fickle. I promise you this, if Tebow is succeeding this time next year, all those morons will talk about is how they proclaimed Tebow had the “X factor”.

Have you ever watched a game before in which EVERY SINGLE THROW was declared good or bad? That's exactly what happened the last two games. You can just feel the color commentator waiting for 1 slightly bad throw so he can highlight how smart he is by quoting himself on some obscure gesture he made 3 months prior on Tebow's throwing motion over and over again. “Yeah and this is what worried me about Tebow before the draft, blah blah blah”.

My god the guy has played 2 games and the slightest mistake means the sky is falling and Tebow's career is over if you listen to these idiots.

Of course these are all the same jokers who say “all he does is win games” about guys like Vince Young and then praise him for throwing for 140 yards, 0tds and 1int because he is just has a “different style” and his 17 points of production were good enough to win the game lol.

  • TheTroglodyte

I'm pretty sure he was saying that he was a “mile high”. Damn pot smoker!

  • WhidbeyBronco

    well said.

  • WhidbeyBronco

    it couldn't be that it's play-off time and we're not in em…

  • TheTroglodyte

Whidbey ya bearded freak of nature! It's good to see you around these parts again. :D

  • The Mascot Army

    That was number 3.

  • The Mascot Army

Great post, and a great rewriting of history is soon upon us.
They are probably not doing any Tebow stories/coverage until they know how he will turn out. They are probably hoping the memories of their proclamations of “unworthy to be in the NFL” fade with time.

  • crazykid

had ESPN not whined about Tebow's throwing motion, I doubt people like Kerry would have ever noticed it was “different”

  • anthony33

    Whidbey
Good to see you again!! Stick around… miss your comments. I've seen on MHR a few times, great informational site, but it dosen't have the same blog feel as this one.

    Jon,
Glad you are back as well. Good to see postings kept up during the week, it was getting REAL stale there for a while. Great discussion topics, keep it up!!

  • Paradisimo

If that were the case explain the non-stop front page articles about Brett Favre or them reporting on Mike Singletary being fired. News is news regardless of whether the team is headed to the playoffs.

  • NMBronc

This will surely be topic #1 come draft time, as Tebow's play may allow us to address other areas or trade down. Either way, you know they will be discussing whether we should ride the Tebow train.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

    2012! =)

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

I think the thing that Denver fans will be reminded of is that Houston's secondary is of historic levels of bad this season. If Tebow can pull it off against the Chargers it will quiet a lot of critics and make it very tough on who ever is next for the Denver Broncos at head coach.

  • TheTroglodyte

It only makes sense to bring in a HC who wants to try to develop Tebow next year. The Broncos have too many other positions they need to draft for on defense.

They won't be looking to make any moves at QB until 2012 after they can evaluate what the kid can do after a full year. Teebs already has the buy in of the team, a year under his belt, and is leading by example. To start over with another rookie would just be flat out silly.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

Well, I was more talking about the other QB on the roster (you know the one who was leading the NFL in passing yardage up until a few weeks ago) :)

I really don't see Denver drafting a QB, maybe picking up a camp arm in UDFA, but I'd hope the fans would be up in arms over the rafting of a QB.

So many needs! DL, LB, TE, CB, S, OL, possibly even K & FB…

  • NMBronc

To the next person that mentions Orton, starting QB and Broncos in the same sentence, I will fart in your general direction.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

Haha, I am not for or against either Tebow or Orton. No one can deny that a better defense would have meant the difference between having 10 wins right now instead of 4.

  • areferee

Here is a note I sent to Woody Paige at The Denver Post, in response to his article that purports to name, (among many others) the names of the new Broncos Head Coach and perhaps, its new OC and DC.

I reprint it here, not because I necessarily advocate it, but because it is possible, and for many, a welcome choice that no one seems to think about, or consider realistic.

I welcome further discussion, even though I can already hear some of the pejoratives and other name calling. I call upon the “rational' minds on this site, of which there are many, to seriously give me your thoughts on this post: Here we go:

    “Woody,

Your list, although more inclusive than most, makes the same obvious omission as does every other list that refuses to think outside the box. You forget that Pat Bowlen and John Elway will be completely involved in this decision.

Why does everyone overlook another obvious choice? There is a future Hall of Fame inductee out there with permanent ties to Denver and Colorado that surely would accept the Head Coaching position for the Broncos, if it was offered. He still has a home in Denver.

Although his choice as the new Broncos Head Coach would be controversial and precedent setting, he has proven himself a winner and has great ties with many of the other names on your list who would jump at the chance to work with him as coordinators or position coaches.

Why do you and every other “talking head” always overlook such a well-qualified candidate. He even has coached a number of our veteran players, and has great respect around the league.

He would also solve many of our financial problems as the Head Coach, especially if he attracted the right person as offensive coordinator.

    His name?

    Mike Shanahan

(And don't tell me it's not possible.)”

  • TheTroglodyte

    HAHAHA!

  • TD30isMVP

Since I can't figure out how the hell to “reply”, Ian I found this on Fox Sports…

Say what you will about the Texans' pass defense. Sure, they give up more passing yards per game (277.1) than any other team in the NFL. Sure, they're in the bottom half of the league in interceptions, and they've given up more passing plays of 40 or more yards than anyone else in football.

But everyone else plays the same Houston defense, and Tebow's numbers stack up with some of the league's elite against that same porous secondary.

On Sunday, Tebow averaged 10.62 yards per attempt and 19.25 yards per completion. In two games against the Texans this year, Peyton Manning — yes, that Peyton Manning — has averaged 6.87 yards per attempt and 10.62 yards per completion.

Eli Manning? In one game, 7.07 yards per attempt and 11 yards per completion.

Tony Romo? In one game, 9.47 yards per attempt and 12.35 yards per completion.

Michael Vick? In one game, 9.15 yards per attempt and 13.73 yards per completion.

  • TheTroglodyte

If we bring Shanahan back I will stop rooting for the Broncos

  • TheTroglodyte

I think it is clear by these gaudy numbers that Tebow is arguably the best QB in the NFL

  • TD30isMVP

Nope, but the “it was only Houston” crowd can chew on that bone for a

    bit.

  • flbronc

I had that same thought, but you did the numbers! He played an above average game statistically against them.

  • flbronc

I can see your angle there, and it does make some sense on several levels. What we don't know is how badly damaged Shanny's relationship with the organization is following his sudden termination. I would be shocked if he would accept the job if offered. I would say crazier things have happened, but I can't think of one. But I guess it is not outside the realm of possibility.

Is it even possible to offer a job to a head coach under contract with another organization? Has it ever happened before? Would you have to ask permission to interview that coach, as teams currently have to do to interview an assistant? I am not sure Washington would grant us an interview with him, given the fact that there are going to be so many openings this year.

I wouldn't be very supportive of bringing him back, after seeing the way he handled some situations in Washington- McNabb and Haynesworth. To paraphrase/quote a recent ESPN and DP- I think he is losing his touch- at the very least in the people skills department. I'd rather bring in Kubiak, who runs the same offense, comes at a cheaper price tag, has the same problem building a defense and will work better with a gm overseeing player selection.

  • TD30isMVP

As for me, I feel we finally have a QB. I like Orton, he has worked

hard but he is not fun to watch. Tebow has many things to learn and

work on, but he has shown he is not opposed to putting in the work.

Tebow is fun to watch and regardless of his throwing motion, college

offense, religious beliefs, etc., he is proving to be catching on to the

NFL. I have no doubt he will make huge mistakes, but he also looks to

make huge plays…and maybe, just maybe I will see a televised Bronco

    game again.

  • TheTroglodyte

That and having a QB who could actually be productive on 3rd down and in the 4th quarter.

  • flbronc

I have always said, if he fails, it won't be for lack of work. The kid is a grinder for sure. I'm not going to say he is the qb of the future yet, but I do know we will always get his best.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

The 4th quarter thing is a valid point, Orton's only done it four times as a Bronco (last season: Cin, Dal, New England and once this season: Ten).

However a good defense may mean the difference in even having an opportunity to come back in the 4th (or not even needing to).

3rd down efficiency comes down to play calling though in my opinion. You got to 3rd down somehow, right? Just look at how Orton would perform during the two-minute drills. He was prolific (sometimes only until he threw an interception, which he only threw 9 of this season).

  • areferee

No one would blame you, Monk. It would betray a lot of fans that called for his ouster.

  • areferee

Right. He has tarnished his image this year. It would all depend on whether Dan Snyder is equally disenchanted with Shanahan. (Both Mike and Kyle).

  • anthony33

    areferee
I thought for sure you were going to say Jeff Fisher. He, if available, would be a great choice.

I see Vince Lombardi in orange and blue before Shanny, but yes, anything is possible.

    The bad and good news:
The Bad: If the Broncos win Sunday against an excellent SD defense and if Tebow performs well, we will lose the #2 pick and fall possibly all the way to 6. So, even at 6 I guess it isn't all the bad.

The Good: We'll know for sure we our QB of the future and I think it puts in a position to get just about any HC we want, including Cowher. What head coach candidate out there would not want a work horse QB like Tebow that has shown great promise? So… screw the draft pick and let's shoot for the best coach and staff available.

  • areferee

    Silly knnnnnn-iggots

  • TheTroglodyte

I don't think we can really count Cin as a 4th quarter comeback for Orton but if you remembered all of those games off the top of your head I give you MAJOR props.

You are right about the defense. I don't think we win 10 games with a good one but we would have at least had a shot.

You are right on the play calling but let's also not forget that 3rd down means blitz and the fact that any time a lineman looked at Orton he would fall down. I'm being dead serious too when I say that I have never ever seen a QB panic in the pocket and literally run into a defender multiple times in a game before either haha. Looking back at it, it's kind of comical.

Orton would have been sacked 5 or 6 times in the Houston game.

  • TheTroglodyte

That and he is a terrible coach and gm (please nobody read this and try and bring up the super bowls John Elway won for this team 11 years ago off of a club that Shanahan didn't build).

Redskins are -72 this year and will probably fire him. Even Jim Zorn was only -70

He will probably be fired along with his son so I guess they will be available as a package deal if someone is crazy enough to actually let him run a 3rd team into the ground.

And please, don't someone even try to tell me about the #2 ranked offense because it was 16th in points scored. Shanahan hadn't had a Broncos team break the top 15 in points scored since Elway left. Our offense sucked under Shanahan

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

That's one of my favorite things about Tebow, that guy doesn't go down easily… I also love when he just takes off out of the pocket (not when it's a planned run).

  • flbronc

I'd love Fisher as hc and Kubiak or Dennison as oc. If Fisher is available of course.

  • Triassictype

Tebow magic + The triumphant (albeit eventual) return of BRONCOS ORANGE = One very happy Denver fan!

  • WhidbeyBronco

Yo trog… I still read but don't often post. Not you many folks here worth the trouble… I only come here for Dee and Kerry of course! lol

    Always appreciate yours dear sir.

  • WhidbeyBronco

yo, do you ever post there A33? Under what name….
