It was a close game through four quarters — a game in which the Denver Broncos defense and running back Knowshon Moreno showed signs of domination.

But after Knowshon Moreno‘s career-long 24-yard run in the fourth quarter, deep into Chiefs territory, head coach Josh McDaniels decided to throw the ball… and throw it the Broncos did, eight straight times.

Down seven, the baffling decision resulted in a field goal and two punts.

It also resulted in a Chiefs victory. Kansas City took out the Denver Broncos 10-6 in Week 13 NFL action at Arrowhead Stadium.

Moreno finished with 161 yards rushing on 23 carries. Kyle Orton, with more opportunities, finished 9 for 28 for 117 yards.

I’m honestly too upset to post anything more rational here. As I put on Twitter, I’ve never been this upset at a Broncos coach. You can blame Kyle Orton if you like, but in my book, every Broncos quarterback has always struggled at Arrowhead. It was asinine of McDaniels to keep giving a struggling Orton chances that late in the game with Moreno running so, so well.

Todd Haley hugged McDaniels after the game. He would.

Your well-reasoned reactions in the comments.

Orton could be good trade bait there are afew teams that could use a QB with stats like his We dont know Tebows potential he is a football player cause he didnt win in Florida with smoke and mirrors and when he has come in at wild horse or whatever they call it he has produced so he keeps his head in game even with no regular playing time He is an athelete so anything is possible

Orton goes down so easily there is no accounting for his running by a defense. See what Tebow can do now. He either shows flashes or goes down in flames. Either way we learn what he has going into next season. You have to get experience to get better.
Orton throws a nice ball but is not a winner no matter what his record in Chicago showed. He cannot carry a team and he tightens up in close games.
At least in college Tebow showed big when it counted. Can he do it now or was he just a college system quarterback like Troy Smith.

well kerry, he'd have completed one more pass….

anyway, you'd blame Orton for the Kennedy assassination

  • mikebirty

what made it worse was that earlier they'd correctly implemented the Hocchuli rule on DJs fumble recovery.

Yeah, you may be right, but it is not like he is receiving that many carries against other teams. He is avg 14.5 carries/game against everyone else, so until he is given more carries, I don't really feel it is fair to say he is a bust (not saying you said he was). I think if given the chance with decent line he will do well. Of course when you have a tard for a coach like McD that is saying a lot. Go Broncos!!

yah i didn't think so just was wondering if something leaked out

Man they are dropping like flies.. Mays and Gronkowki both on the IR. Not that they were elite players, but hate to see that happen.

This game a bit odd for the Broncos, usually the defense gives up a ton of points and the offense can't keep up. So now we have a defense holding to a low point total, and an offense not producing. Some made mention of it, KC was going to let Denver run the ball and see if they could win without the passing game, it almost backfired, but not quite. However the emphasis was squarely on shutting Orton and crew down.

The real problem(s) with the Broncos is/are two fold, at least as I see it.
    1. The defense a whole is terrible, there are a few really good players on it, Champ continues to amaze me, the people he has one on one shut down this year is very impressive, but I digress. You will not win a lot of games giving up the number of points they do. You might get in a shoot out occasionally, but looking at the numbers, they are awful. No pass rush, period. Til that is fixed, never going anywhere with ANY quarterback.
    2. Kyle Orton could qb a team to a lot of success, especially with the receiving group he has in Denver, but, and this is a big one. He will not often pull games out from behind, maybe once in a while, but he is not considered a threat to beat you late in Q4. When your team is ahead by a score or two in the middle to late going, some QB's scare you to death, sorry, not Mr. Orton. If you win with him, you need a strong defense and good game management, not bad if you had that, terrible if you don't.

As much as I am sick of hearing about Tebow, and I am. The problem is, he is not ready, and I don't think sticking him in the game will get him there. I don't think he has the offense dialed in, and will get picked to death by the secondaries in the NFL, they are far too complex for his level of the game. What he did in College was very, very simple, the NFL is not. Perhaps he will make it, but he is not ready, and having him throw into traps for the next 10 games won't make it so. When the coaches begin to see that he has a grasp, then they will let him make his mistakes real time, until then, a waste of time and harmful to everyone who has to play behind his mistakes. It could even ruin him, it almost ruined Brees in San Diego.

    My two cents,

    Nick

    Next year.
    1 Get a GM
    2 Draft a defense.
    3 Draft a defense.
    4.Draft/trade into a defense.
    5. Don't change D coordinators, damn, let one stay long enough for the guys to have some time in the system. The whole group does not learn a whole scheme in one season.
    6. Let the QB situation work a bit.
    7 Did mention Draft/trade for a defense?

    McD GOT FIRED!!!

  • kerry

are you serious?!? Orton DOES NOT have Composure and a good arm! what the hell games are you watching?!? this guy folds like a cheap lawn chair at the first hint of a blitz. and how many passes of his were thrown in the dirt just yesterday? come on man. get serious. 9 completed passes. thats it. against a team we dropped 40 on last time. oh well doesnt matter as MCD was just fired!!!!!

I guess the fact Pat let Mike do what he needed to do to get our only superbowl wins was not enough for you. I also guess you want to to trade Pat away for another owner right? Maybe the Nuggets can buy the Broncos and we will see some really good committed owners right? Be careful of what you ask for because if he sells the team you might really get Jerry Jones or Al Davis Jr. Pat needed to let Mike go. I still like Mike but his teams were not getting it done. Maybe Hitler Jr. was not the right choice but people make mistakes. Get off Pats nut sack will YA!
