Apologies for my four-day absence. I’ve been… busy. There will be pictures. Happy Hump Day.

    Put claims in on both.

  • anthony33

Put claim in on Merrimam for sure. Wouldn't touch Moss with hundred foot pole.

Pat Bowlen has clearly proven by his continued silence and allowing McDaniels and Xanders to maintain free reign over the personnel decisions, that he intends to keep his organization financially profitable, and merely hope that his new regime can build a winning team in 3-4 years.

It is also clear that he surmises that his fan base of Bronco supporters will maintain their financial loyalty to the team throughout that supposed rebuilding period.

I believe he is wrong on both counts. He appears to be an owner that is out of touch with his fan base and has become penny-wise and pound-foolish. Don't look for him to invest any big bucks in established veterans. That is the main reason Mike Shanahan was fired.

He is an owner who has become interested only in the bottom line, record-be-damned! If his new GM wants to keep his job, veterans like Shawn Merriman and Randy Moss will be overlooked. Consider the position the team is taking with Champ Bailey!

The “youth movement”, just like with McDaniels and Xanders themselves, is much cheaper. Although it is less assured of victory, or even of building a winning team over time, he is gambling that the Bronco fans will continue to pick up the tab.

These are all things he can not state publicly, or by accepting questions from the media, so both he and Ellis remain silent and ignore the issue. The sports journalists need to start questioning McDaniels on these issues and attempt to find out more about Bowlen's sagging commitment to a winner.

My sources say Randy Moss was picked up by Tennessee.

    areferee,

I usually have a similar POV with you on most things, but have to disagree with you on this one.

There is so much about the financials and CBL and I don't have a one clue about what is really going on.

I'm thoroughly pissed at the team, the coaching staff (especially) mcD and the owner right now that any hope of rational thought is gone.

However, I will say this: Bowlen fired Shanny with 3 years on his contract and hired what he thought was the best coach available, I believe that. We signed Doom, Kuper and Orton. Right now it's not working out at all.

That said, I don't think Bowlen lacks a committment to winning… it's like Murphy's law has settled in and aint leaving.

You are so wrong with every statement you have made.

  • areferee

You may well be right. If he does have such a commitment, it will show in his actions over the next few weeks. The lack of a CBL has changed many perspectives.

I find it hard to believe that JM was the best coach available, unless you include the addendum, “for the money”. Shanahan's player payroll was clearly as much an issue as his lackluster record.

    P. S, to Anthony33,

I don't think it's a secret that Bowlen is, at least, interested in other investors for the team, or an out-and-out new owner, while the team is still in the top 10 rankings for profitability.

  • areferee

    I respect your opinion.

As a fan of the 53 men that put it all on the line for us every week, I truly hope that much of this IS wrong.

I see evidence for the contrary.

  • areferee

Awaiting independent verification of Merriman to Buffalo.

(Would be interested to know if the Broncos might have put in a claim, had they had the chance.)

  • areferee

    Done deal!

  • CJ

    broncos 2-14!

  • anthony33

What I meant on the “best coach' comment was Bowlen believed he was the absolute best coach available. It's fair to say that after 18 months he was wrong… at least in the 18 month time frame.

Don't remember seeing anything about Bowlen looking for investors… interesting. How about trading them on the stock market like the Packers, that actually seems to work pretty good. I'd buy in!!

  • anthony33

It sure feels that way right now, no doubt.

You haven't been a Broncos fan very long have you.

  • areferee

    Just since 1960.

  • areferee

Good idea. Bronco Nation would be a strong area for just such a plan; more so than Green Bay. The list would be at least as long as that of season ticket holder's and the waiting list.
