Former Denver Broncos running back Tatum Bell voiced his disapproval of the Broncos’ running game on Twitter recently. Today, the free agent wants to do something about it.

Bell reached out to BroncoTalk via Twitter, saying (in tweet-speak), “They (the Broncos) just need to give me a workout and let me take over.”

Bell then confirmed he’s still in the Denver area and ready to roll. “They don’t have to pay for anything,” Bell said.

Now, before you go writing this all off, consider: the last time Bell came off the street to run for the Broncos, in the running back injury-plagued season of 2008, he started in three games and averaged a whopping 5.7 yards per carry. Broncos rushers in 2010 are averaging half that. Is that all the running backs’ fault? No, it’s much more due to the run blocking, but anyone who isn’t voicing frustration with Laurence Maroney‘s stutter-stepping in the backfield isn’t paying attention.

Yes, the scheme has changed, but Bell knows how to “run downhill,” and he’s a guy — in Denver — who’s proclaimed himself ready to play.

Is he? Who knows? All we’re saying is: give the guy a workout.

why not I mean, let the guy take some reps in the workouts and see if he has something left

  • Bronco up North

Definitely not a bad idea. If anything, Bell can add a boost in the confidence/cookiness area, you know he's gonna run hard to try and proove something. What does the team have to lose?

  • Bronco up North

Mistype, I meant cockiness… not cookiness

    Hahahaha! :)

  • Cyberspread

Give him a shot. Couldn't hurt.

It was yesterday afternoon when I was talking to a co-worker when I suggested it. I can't stand watching baloney dance in the backfield. Give bell, a chance AND HIS NUMBER BACK TO HIM.

  • src

Easy answer! YES…YES…YES…let him have that chance! He obviously WANTS the chance and he obviously has the heart! ; )

It seems like once Bobby Turner left the Broncos…so did the running game.

Give him a shot – he can't be any worse than what we have! I love the idea, if only the Broncos could see our side of view

  • wyrob

I saw him downtown working at his security job a couple months ago. he looked like he can still play.

  • areferee

    Me LIKE cookies…me want some…aaaaaahhaaaaaaa!

  • areferee

As smart as the idea sounds, I think McDaniels might view it as an admission of some failure on his part. If so, he won't do it. Too much ego.

I'd argue the running problems are more down to the offensive line's run blocking (or lack of) but it certainly wouldn't hurt to give him a workout.

Best uninjured running back we have at the moment is Bucky and we've been limiting his carries to reduce the chance of him getting injured again. Maroney can't figure out 'downhill' running and the toss plays we've been calling so he has a better chance of getting to the outside are ending up in losses way too often.

End of the day, it's not like anyone's going to lose out on meaningful reps and if he is an improvement on what we've got then we need all the help we can get. Even if we don't end up bringing him in, it might get the current RBs to buck up their ideas if they know their jobs are on the line.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

I question Maroney's hunger. His comments after getting traded weren't all that encouraging. I wonder if he could care less about being a Bronco.

  • http://broncoszone.blogspot.com/ Jon

He played for the Tuskers last season, didn't he?

  • TheTroglodyte

    Great point Kyle

  • Rev_Rock

I definitely agree with you 100% on Maroney! What a bust! Bring Bell back to show him how it's done!

Really? How can a guy who has basically flopped in the NFL provide any kind of cockiness?

SUre, he can be cocky all he likes. And the rest of the team will laugh at him being an arrogant jackass because he's already a proven failure.

  • herc_rock
  • jdkchem

You sure you did not mean kookiness?

  • Broncomania PR

All the running backs on this team are proven failures. NOTHING TO LOSE !

  • Broncomania PR

He is not a thief. The thief is Pat Bowlen, robbing all die hard Broncos fans with a sorry ass team.

  • Bigdaddy169

what we need to start doing some trading
