One of the surprise cuts yesterday was running back Andre Brown from the New York Giants.

The Denver Broncos moved quickly to swoop him up off the waiver wire. Brown was expected to sign with the Giants practice squad, but will be implemented immediately into the Broncos game plan.

Brown was drafted by the Giants in the fourth round of 2009, but suffered a ruptured achillies tendon in training camp and was placed on injured reserve. He led the Giants in the 2010 preseason in rushing yards.

He has yet to notch a statistic during the regular season in the NFL.

The signing leaves question marks as to who will leave from the Broncos current roster (and it may not be a running back necessarily, but likely will).

Denver’s practice squad should be announced today.

UPDATE: To make room for Brown the Broncos have waived Bruce Hall if he clears waivers he will likely be added to their practice squad.

Assuming he will be on the 53 man roster, who gets cut? Hall, Ball, or another position…say Vaughn?

  • Roy

He could be a really good pickup. Vaughn may be practice squad bound.

  • Katch22

I'm hoping it's Hall, didn't even look good against third stringers.

  • Roy

There were also some young DL's cut around the league from teams that are stacked at the positions. I wouldn't be surprised if we kicked the tires of a few of the like Jay Alford, Tank Tyler, Kendrick Clancy (not so young, but has experience), and Jeff Owens (who is probably practice bound for the Eagles).

I think that Hall would make it through waivers and on to the practice squad.

Broncos could use some more depth at outside linebacker I think as well..

I only noticed Hall when he was missing blocks

I suspect Hall will fall. Ball is a banger and Vaugh is a monster on special teams.

That might be the understatement of the year Ian!!!

We need a nasty MF that hates everything associated with offense. Think how much better this defense would be with a Wilson or Romanowski back there. Maybe, just maybe Ayers will turn into that guy. Did you see what Suh did a couple of weeks ago… tell me that didn't send a message. He literally tried to tear the guys head off… THAT'S what we need… mean and nasty to the core.

Just cut one of the four outside linebackers that we have on the roster. Hah, I have no idea what they're doing.

I would have preferred signing Torrain instead Brown.

I think he is a better player and he have more experience, and he played already for the Broncos.

I see Tennessee waived Lagarret (sp) Blount. Why not? Hell, make him a frickin' LB. at least we know he's not afraid to hit someone. At 6'2″ 245… again, why not.

    You were right.

    Yeppers.

  • areferee

I'm not sure they do either, Ian! LOL

Torrain is a gigantic injury risk. Not that Brown isn't.. I'd take my chances with Brown though. I was salivating at the chances to sign Derrick Ward in 2009 (I know, shut up). So I'll take Brown.
