Report: Broncos to sign D.J.’s brother Worrell Williams

The Denver Broncos already have three players with the surname “Williams” on their roster — Jamal, Johnny and D.J. — but, as they say, four heads are better than three.

The Broncos are working out and expected to sign Worrell Williams, the younger brother of defensive stalwart D.J. Williams, the National Football Post reports.

Worrell (6-0, 250) is a University of California product who was an honorable-mention All-Pac-10 selection as a senior in 2008. Described as “a physical phenomenon of size and speed and a vocal leader for Cal” in this 2008 San Francisco Chronicle story (photo credit), Williams was often overlooked at Cal because of his older brother’s achievements and the playmaking ability of teammate and current Bronco Syd’Quan Thompson.

Worrell didn’t land with an NFL team last year, playing for the UFL’s California Redwoods in 2009. Big Brother’s Broncos would be his first landing spot in the NFL.

It’s clear by recent additions that the Broncos are aggressively adding depth and competition to their linebacker corps. After viewing the shoddy tackling from both the defense and special teams last Sunday, that isn’t a bad idea.

    Main word in that whole article was 'tackle'. At Cin the defense showed no regular technique to tackling. Ayodele is by far bad and wasn't Jones a vacuum in Miami, and help me to understand what Jarvis Green was doing. Mercy.
    Do not get me wrong, there were some tackling, like Mays, Alexander, McCarthy. Alphonso lead in tackling but he missed way too many assignments. If he was not a second round, I would cut him.
    Now Parrish Cox looked just OK. He too missed many tackles.
    Maybe just the first game, huh?

    that would be cool if worrell turned out to be this crazy instant star and the williams bros would be the best ILB tandem ever just a dream :(… but i do remember reading about worrell coming out saying that he was projected as a 3-4 ilb.

    Needles CAN be found in haystacks, but it seems as if we are shopping for our haystacks as “blue light specials” at K-Mart. Or are we beefing up here to put the fear of the “Turk” in some of the invested player's mindset?

    We had a “No Name Defense” in the league a few years ago. I'm not sure this is how it's done.

    finally sum1 that knows how to tackle have yall seen this guy????…youtube this mans highlights…i understand that he's projected too small for his position but umm how tall is dumervil…hopefully he'll make the 53 man roster and jus be a special teams BEAST “hopefully” im really excited about this pickup,and we all know DJ is gonna be mentoring him the entire time even if hes on the practice squad…and 1 other thing personally i think the ultimate “”BEST”” way for competion is and always be family….u cant tell me,any of u have never tryed to one-up a sibling,especially if ur a younger brother of a big name football player,oh yeah he's gonna be taking ppls heads off

    Dude these guys are coming on to fight for a roster spot at min wage. What the hell can it hurt. It's not like there is some great player we need on the market atm.

    You're right, of course. It certainly doesn't hurt. My question is: does it help? After seeing our first look at the defensive front without Dumervil, I would say we DO have a great player need…a sack specialist.
