Cory Procter protects Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo in a 2009 preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers

Former Dallas Cowboys center/guard Cory Proctor was brought into Denver today just one day after he was cut from the Cowboys.

Proctor was a undrafted free agent in 2005 originally signed by the Detroit Lions, but spent 2005-2009 with the Cowboys.

He has started 13 games in his career and participated in 32 games, not making his professional debut until 2007.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s source multiple teams are interested in Proctor.

This news surfaces just a day after the Broncos started Dustin Fry (zero career starts, participated in three games in four years in the NFL) at center during yesterday’s organized team activities.

Another water sandwich. Bowlen needs to make a move and go out and hire a full time… man in charge… seasoned General Manager.

Hearing rave reviews already about Dez Bryant. Our 1st pick???

    UUUGGHHH.

  • TheTroglodyte

Jumping the gun just a tad on that one lol

  • kerry

i totally didnt want Dez Bryant. but i sure as hell would have prefered him over the wishbone WR with a broken foot.

  • TheTroglodyte

Thomas has WAY more upside than Bryant. I'll take the upside. Obviously you would have had fun throwing a fit at anyone they picked so your opinion's here have grown irrelevant. Your still fun to mess with though so I appreciate your hatred towards everything Broncos.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

Hey, he's our fifth string quarterback.

  • Gary R.

Double reverse to Bay-Bay with Tebow on the receiving end, anyone?

    I'm just speculating.

By the way, this was from the previous article on Quinn/Orton/Brandy/Tebow, but it was written that Brady Quinn “didn't play more than 2 quarters under Center all season.”

I shouldn't use quotation-marks without being sure of the exact sentence, but something sounded strange about that (even if I understood that you were explaining B.Q.'s fragile foot and other injury questions).

But that can't be correct, can it? He had to have started a game and lasted more than two quarters for the Brownies.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

“Quinn has yet to get through an entire season in which he has seen more than two quarters under center.”

Quinn in his rookie season came in the final quarter of game 16 for the Browns, relieving Derek Anderson.

In his second and third season in the NFL he was injured to the point where he could not return.

  • Gary R.

“Quinn has yet to get through an entire season in which he has seen more than 2 quarters under center” was the mystifying ambiguous quotation my previous question referenced.

I could've simply flipped over to the piece in question and re-written the previous line after looking it up. But then I wouldn't have been able to reply to my original reply (in the space of five minutes).

  • TheTroglodyte

Am I completely missing something here, Quinn has played several full games including one against us in 2008. Last year he started and played 10 straight quarters before he was benched. Then he returned later in the season and played in two complete games before breaking his finger in the 3rd.

So last year alone he started and finished a full 4 games under center.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

He didn't make it through the season though. Yes, he has played complete games (12 or 14, I think off the top of my head), but hasn't made it through a season injury free.

LOL, do you guys want me to change it? Sorry, didn't mean for it to be a topic =P

  • TheTroglodyte

lol sorry Ian, I thought that it was meant as a literal statement so I was all confused. Now I feel like the guy in the elevator that just farted and is really hoping nobody else heard it.

  • Gary R.

Sorry. Was away temporarily while Trog chimed in and you replied. No need to change it though. I just didn't know if it was quarters of a season or quarters of a game.

But he's been fragile physically and his play has been suspect. No argument there (as I am not his biggest fan).

However, a fresh start in a more supportive environment has helped other QB's in the past (see Jim Plunkett, Steve Young or Randall Cunningham).

Hopefully that– and a new number and haircut… alright, I'm reaching– will turn things around here.

Also, maybe the football gods will be more inclined to look favorably on the ex-Fighting Irish signal-caller if his height is re-listed on the roster as a more believable 6'2 (and not the Elway and Tim Tebow-sized 6'3).

But I agree with you, Kyle, about the risk in trading Orton at this point in time (and for, at the very best, a 4th rounder).

However, another team besides Pittsburgh could have an unforeseen problem with their 1st or 2nd string QB in exhibition season (when the Broncos staff will know more about Tebow's progress).

All for new bodies coming in and competing, as long as they end up with the best players on the field. McD says he's all about competition, think that will give us the best chance of putting the best players on the field. As time will tell.

  • 12508

I agree with Anthony33. This GM has to go. Been saying it all off season.

  • 12508

I agree. This GM has to go.

  • anthony33

A lot of people didn't like Dez Bryant, including me. However, I now getting this sickish feeling that he is the next Randy Moss.

For as much as I hate the chargers, their GM, AJ Smith, knows how to find and sign talent as well as when to get rid of it (see Tomlinson and Williams). McD might turn out to be great HC, but he sucks as a GM (which he is) and so does the puppet Xanders.

I think you almost have to be a cold heartless bastard to be a good GM, someone that can take all the emotion out of it and do what is best by making the tough decisions. That isn't the guy who has to coach and motivate you every day.

  • denverfanindallas

so John Elway's FB page says that Doom signed a tenure… do we know anything about this?

  • Nisse

mcdaniels got rid of his highschool teammate kenny peterson.
they hugged each other after that game, said they hade a great relationship, and all of that.
and mcdaniels stil cut him from the team.

mcdaniels is as cold and heartless as any other headcoach.

is he a good GM? we still dont know. regarding williams and tomlinson we still dont know, but the fact that the chargers kept tomlinson 1 more year tells me they dont make the correct decision all the time, because tomlinson ala 2009 was a misstake.

the 2010 draft hasnt even played a preseason game, and you are calling out that dez is better than thomas. this is a little bit early. i can get people complaining about the 2009 draft, the didnt perform as well as we hoped they would. but the fact that no one has seen thomas doing more than 3 nfl type routes tells me people saying dez is better than thomas havnt got a clue.

  • kerry

well im not gonna say “the next Randy Moss” but he has alot of talent for sure. certainly more then Thomas. i mean thats obvious. if we were gonna waste a first rounder on a WR, it should have been Bryant.

and do you see a pattern emerging here?? this coach and Shanny each had puppet GM's. Shanny had Sundquist, MCD has Xanders. the ONLY guy who wasnt a puppet under Shanny was John Beake. the REAL Brains behind the pickups of the Broncos before shanny and during Shanny's first couple of years. nobody remembers him. everyone thinks Shanny did everything. i mean fuck some still think Shanny invented the Zone blocking scheme. (which he didnt, Alex Gibbs did)

  • kerry

gonna mention the Syd'quan Thompson signing??

  • anthony33

    Nisse
Point on cold and heartless well said. I am not judging the 2010 class yet, but just pointing out that the Dez Bryant situation looks a lot like the Randy Moss situation a few years ago. I do think he is going to be good. That's not saying Thomas will be bad.

Time will tell everthing. The Bronx have had four first round picks in the last 2 years. I can't every remember that happening. So… we have Moreno who had a mediocre year, Ayers is still a huge question mark. Both could still turn out good to great (hoping like hell they do), but have to admit year one was well below expectations. Now you have 2010… two more risky picks (and I love the Tebow pick).

Like I said, time will tell. Four first round picks in 2 years… what will we have tow years from now to show for it??? Will they be the cornerstone of the franchise for the next 10 years or will they all bust. Right now you would have to say it could go either way.
