Brandon Marshall

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall‘s tumultuous, spectacular, and controversial career as a Denver Bronco has come to an end.

The Broncos on Wednesday agreed to trade Marshall to the Miami Dolphins for two second-round draft picks, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The Broncos will receive the Fins’ 43rd overall pick in the 2010 draft and an additional second round pick next year.

Per Schefter, the trade is contingent upon Marshall passing a physical in Miami Wednesday. The Dolphins are expected to sign him to one of the “most lucrative wide receiver deals in NFL history.”

A 2006 4th round draft choice of the Broncos, Marshall asked for a trade during the 2009 offseason but played through the season. In four calendar years with the Broncos, Marshall had multiple run-ins with the law and was suspended for one game in 2008. He also had back-to-back 100-catch seasons, netting him Pro Bowl honors in 2008 and 2009.

Barring a face-off in the 2010 playoffs, the Broncos are next scheduled to play the Dolphins in 2011.

Another long-rumored unhappy camper is out of Dove Valley. For one reason or another (or, say 12), Josh McDaniels and Pat Bowlen decided signing Marshall wasn’t worth the risk, and now Marshall gets to head back to his home state. We’re sure The Beast is thrilled; many Broncos fans aren’t.

One thing’s for certain: the Broncos don’t have a veteran player packaged into this deal like they had when they traded Jay Cutler (Kyle Orton). If they don’t capitalize on those draft picks, this deal is a disaster. And that’s not a particularly comforting thought, given last year’s draft class’ production.

Getting rid of a proven pro bowler, for a possible Dez. Stupid. I guess our defense will be good.

  • CaliBroncoland

At least the saga is finally over and we can move on. Wish that we would have received more for him, but 2 2nd rounders is not bad. Better than having to deal with him week to week next year.

  • pearlyjams

help me jabar gaffney, you are our only hope.

  • Eddy

where in the hell is McDummy leading this team to ?? ive been a bronco fam for 40 yr's and ive never felt the need to find a different team to root for till Mcdumbass arrived….way to go Bowlen !!

  • http://www.nflmocks.com jdove

we are talking about the effects this will have on the draft at http://www.nflmocks.com .. we are also looking at Dez Bryant's BUST-O-METER…

  • katch22

The dude is going to a place where trouble always seems to happen! Good for us getting what we did because he WILL get suspended for a year WHEN he does get in trouble here in the couple of months. At least we can move on now. Welcome to Denver Dez!!!

  • SivNiz

I was hoping Ted Ginn was going to be part of the package.

  • mikebirty

two 2s aren't inspiring but its exactly what the Pats would do – how many 2nds do they have this year? They always seems to be picking multiple times in the 2nd round. Just as long as its not Bryant as a replacement, that seems like going from the frying pan to the fire.

I won't say good riddance but I certainly don't wish Marshall as much success at Miami as I hope Hillis has in Cleveland.

Hmmmm, well at least this explains why Mike Nolan left. He was obviously on Team Marshall at the end of the season.

  • Ben

I am so sick of hearing all this “I've been a Bronco fan for X number of years and now I'm gonna have to root for someone else” crap. Marshall was a great player with a whole lot of un-needed baggage, who we got great value for in the draft. I liked Marshal a lot on the field, but not having him in Denver anymore is not the end of the world. He is replaceable.

  • katch22

    Why???

  • guest

i've been a bronco fan for 30 years. i will still root for denver, so there you go.

  • halophane

This is a great move for the Dolphins. The Broncos have been killing themselves slowly ever since the firing of Shanahan.

    This says it all:

    http://jockpost.com/bad-worse-downright-awful/

  • sancher

Anyone who plays on a team knows this, if you have guys with there own agenda, it hurts, no it kills the team. Any coach or teammate wants a player to give 100% to the team and not worry about his own stats. Brandon Marshall is the modern day Terrel Owens, selfish and will be on several teams before his career ends. As a coach, I want 53 players with B type talent who have one goal, I do not want 53 players with 5 super stars with ego's and ther own agenda's. Be patient Bronco Fans, good things to come.

  • SivNiz

because McD has shown me that he can draft

  • KMA

    TOTALLY AGREE!!!

  • Cheese

The Tuna (Bill Parcells) has a history of taking on people with character issues. Lawrence Taylor was the first rookie hold out ever and a drug addict, Keyshawn Johnson, TO, all people he brought on board. It isn't that crazy to see him brining in BM and it doesn't say anything about why Mike Nolan left.

It DOES prove, however, that Shanahan had no interested what so ever in acquiring Marshall.

  • guest

case in point, washington redskins. buying super talented players hasnt gotten them much in the past 10 years.

  • SivNiz

    *has not shown

  • kerry

HAHAHAHAHAHA. wow MCD got the shit end of the deal again. two 2nd's and one of them we cant even use until next year. i wanted Marshall gone but for anything less then a first is terrible. well its not like the offense was gonna be explosive with Marshall anyway. Marshall wasnt the problem on the field. it was that statue QB and “i get tackled by the air” Moreno

well hopefully our defense will be good beyond 6 games.

  • darwinj

Marshall is a talent but not a team player. We need team players not a diva. Let's move on and plot a better course. We can draft a good receiver in the second round or take Dez Bryant in the first. We have more options now. McDaniels knows more than these McHaters. Remember Rod Smith and think of Marshall- a little bit of a disconnect there?

  • guest

ginn was proof that cam cameron cant draft

  • NMBronc

Figured this would happen. Two 2's is not bad, unless there used on 4th round TE's that can't catch. Hopefully we get Thomas or Tate.

What this does do is take away a big part of our offense, and leave us without a #1 WR, no C, a question mark at QB and that's just the Off. Just a little nervous at this stage.

Also, how are some of u fans for 20+ years and now you are going to just up and root for someone else? So, your new team is playing the Broncos and you are actually going to root against the Broncos? Have to raise the bullshit flag on that one. If you are a fan, then there is no magical switch to flip. You may be jaded, like Kerry, and rightfully so….but you will still root for the Broncos.

  • NMBronc

Ginn is Royal, only not nearly as talented…ie. we did not need him.

  • otisdrury

I've finally had it with whatzhizname…McDaniels, …no MisHandles, …now Josh DisMantles. In about a year he has dismantled a top rated offense for what,…to make sure it's his way or the highway, or make sure his ego remains intact? A strong ego in a head coach is a great thing. It helps him to do everything but win. He's too young for the job. He's a punk and a putz. NOTE TO MR. BOWLEN: How long will you allow this to continue? The ball is now in YOUR red zone.

  • dogheadbrew

Brandon is an awesome talent, and I hope he gets his head on straight, which is going to be tough with his Miami temptations, such as fast-food. If he has really matured it's a great deal for the Dolphins. If he hasn't then south beach is going to destroy him. Miami may have bought a half-time receiver between bookings and Godell visits. I'm not saying he's a Plaxico-esque thug, more of a wrapped up in the moment kid who likes the night life.

    My manifesto on McD:

He IS our coach (and GM?). As much as we all like what Shanny did for us over a decade ago that is over. We can criticize the teams move, but bagging on a guy who the jury is still out on doesn't help anything. If you hate the guy that much, call Mr. Bowlen, it is his team. As much as we don't like loosing talent, dropping the second half of the season and missing the playoffs is worse. Until we get either perceptually better or worse, none of you opinions on McDs moves matter.

  • Joe

For players who want outta Denver, the formula is easy: Just make the probowl, and theres your ticket out of town. Look at Jay Cutler, makes probowl, gets traded the following season. Casey Weiggman, makes probowl, gets cut the following season. Brandon Marshall, makes second consecutive probowl, then gets traded. Apparently we do not want talent on our team, as long as you have a good attitude like Mr. Orton you are welcomed. Even last year our offense sucked, so this year should be wild. Hopefully we draft Dez, we need that #1 reciever. But I am sure Mcdaniels will do something dumb and wont. But heres another question….Why the hell is Pat Bowlen so cheap??

  • Frank

Well our two best players from 2 years ago are gone and our 2-time superbowl winning coach. Great. We went from an up and coming team w the best offense in football to total rebuilding mode. And my question is, why are we choosing now to jettison all these problem players?? By the time these draft picks all flesh out, if they ever do, Champ and Dawkins, our two best players, will have retired and our defense will be shitty again. This is horrible management.

McDaniels better pull some gems out of this draft, because that's all we left ourselves with, draft picks. If last year is any indicator, that's wishful thinking. What did Robert Ayers do??? Nothing. Best pass rusher in the draft my ass. We shoulda taken Orakpo at 12, everyone was saying it. Morenos still gonna be good, I hope, but its not enough.

Oh yeah, in case people forgot, we traded the #14 pick this year for ALPHONSO SMITH! What has he done? Nothing. He sucks. We coulda gotten like Dez Bryant and Rolando Mclain this year.

When I saw this trade, the first thing that came to my mind was “WE HAVE NO PLAYMAKERS”. We have Orton, who cant throw 30 yards, Royal, who will be blanketed without Marshall on the other side, and Moreno, who is a 5-yard grind it out runner.

Bottom line is: I'd rather have a team of trouble-makers who are fun to watch and make big time plays than have a team of “team-players” who bore me to death as they grind out 7-9 seasons.

Here's hoping McDaniels is a super-genius and knows what hes doing, because I don't get it.

  • SivNiz

After looking at some stats I agree. Now I would like us to package our 11th pick and a 2nd rounder for Suh

  • Frank

Oh yea, I almost forgot, one of my favorite players, Scheffler, also wants out. We're probably gonna trade him too. I don't remember him beating his wife or throwing tantrums or anything, and he is good, I really like Scheff. Why doesn't Mcdaniels like him?? See, if our management/coach keep this up, eventually were gonna have the reputation of being a terrible team to play for, and no big names are gonna wanna come here.

Don't forget, our second best player (besides Marshall) from last year, DOOM, is also not signing or coming to workouts. What if we lose him too? We'll be 0-16 next year.

  • herc_rock

    Good riddance, jerkstore.

Worth it, even though our O is now a complete joke.

  • waylon

So long Brandon! Thanks for all of you efforts to promote gang relations and gender equality during your time in Denver. Also, thanks for always placing team before self. I think that has been the real key to our playoff success these last few years. Now that you've secured a financial windfall, I have no doubt that you'll finally be able to focus on becoming a better leader and teammate…. in Miami. The thing that I'll miss the most about you is your appreciation for the city of Denver and all of your loyal Bronco fans.

Don't slip on any mcdonald's bags on your way outta town!

April 13th conversation between Patrick Smyth and Jim Saccomano:
JS:”Kyle hasn't posted on BT in a Long time!”
PS: “Yeah I know, he's been like really busy I hear.”
JS: “Aren't well all? We should talk to Josh and try and get some big news that'll get back on the web.”
    PS: “Done.”

  • NMBronc

Good call, although I would rather see us take Williams at 11 and pick up Thomas or Tate in the 2nd.

  • NMBronc

If we loose Doom, then Ayers is our only OLB/DE…I believe. Haggan is gone and Woodyard is more ILB or S material.

Wonder if McD is thinking about trading Doom and taking an OLB/DE with the 11th? Scheff will likely get cut, although hopefully we get something for him.

  • jeff

lol, I agree with the probowl formula, that seems to be the trend.

  • David

If this stuff make you root for another team you where never a Bronco fan. I've been one since birth and always will be…regardless of what any coach or player says or does.

  • DB

0-16…give me a break! Feel better now? What's so bad about a coach getting his own players…happens ALL the time.

  • Jarrod

just a dumb move…thats all i can say…i dont see the positives

  • donnaread

I am bummed at this move…..Best reciever we have had since McCaffery. Percells knows what is best!! Good luck to the bad boy!! So who is McDaniels getting rid of next? Baily????? I am a die hard Bronco fan and will remain so, but I think getting rid of Marshall was a dumb move. by the time Josh gets to a draft, all the good ones will be gone.tsk tsk tsk….

  • dabroncos1

how many more sasgas are we going to have????????? what or who is it going to be next year??? Champ Bailey, Ryan Clady—-who is going to piss Jock McDumbass off next—this is complete BS we are not getting better we are getting worse and the common factor here is Jock McDumbass

  • BroncoMan24

What about trading down in the first and picking up Pouncey OC? I think this would be the best thing for us. I really like Mcclain, but feel it is more important to fix the OL than pick him up.

  • dabroncos1

So the Saga is over this year. Who is it going to be next year???? Champ Bailey, Ryan Clady—who ever pisses Jock McDumbass off. When is it going to end. We have not improved our tean at all—-Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn???
WOW—Jabar Gaffeny oh yea we doing well!!!!
The only common denominator here is—Jock McDumbass—we will not have a winning season until this Dumbass is gone!!!!!!

  • kerrysucks

What would you rather us put up with his shit for another year and then loose him to free agency gaining nothing? two second round picks is the best we could get for a lawfully challenged asshole like marshall

  • DB

How about these: He's a train wreck in the locker room and off the field, he doesn't want to be here, he's one stupid move away from a year-long suspension, we don't want to pay the highest WR contract in the history of the NFL (esp with all that baggage), and WR isn't exactly the single most important role on the team. All of that is now Miami's problem.

  • Bob Watters

Only a BLIND football fan wouldn't see positives in this deal but then again I am a positive person and won't let the Evil negative's enter into my life. Some say not getting a First round pick for Marshall would be a waste WRONG . We don't have to pay first round money now we have 2 second round picks this year and next year giving us 2 drafts to make up for losing cry baby BM or little TO . There's nothing wrong with the picks as long as they are used right. I still believe McClain is our first rd pick this year in the second we move can package them and move up into the late first for Pouncey , I would take a 10year center over baby TO any day. It all starts up front.

  • inrodwetrust

This whole top rated offense everyone touts DID NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS against the freaking BILLS!!!!! and look at where Jay Cutler (who everyone hates McD over) is now stats wise……plus we got multiple 2nd round picks for a troubled 4th rounder (thank Santonio Holmes for us not getting a 1st).

  • NMBronc

Trading down for Pouncey is a likely possibility. McClain would be good, but a mild upgrade to Davis is probably all that is necessary. It may come down to best available at 11.

  • dbroncs24/7

What top rated offense are you talking about?? the one that was 16th in scoring? how about the 29th overall defense that he turned into a top 10 defense, not to mention the -17 turnover differential which he turned to +7. McDaniels hasn't even been head coach for a full year, you're an idiot if you think that a coach should be fired after one year especially when he goes 8-8. I wonder how the Cowboys would have done if they fired Jimmy Johnson after his first year when he went 1-15?? btw he won two super bowls so RELAX.

  • ETL

You obviously have no idea how NFL offenses work, let alone football. What exactly has Scheffler done except hangout with the physical trainer?

  • Frank

Well for starters, he's got great speed for a TE, is a very tough matchup for linebackers to cover, and to top it off has great hands. Whats not to like. If he wasn't in McD's doghouse last year you wouldve seen more of it.
