My lord, and we thought our team treated our star wide receiver bad. According to, well everywhere, Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes was traded to the wide receiver needy Jets for a lousy 5th round pick. Holmes, despite being one of the best in the NFL, has had several off the field issues ever since joining the league. Where have I heard this before?
Holmes latest incident involving him throwing a glass at a woman and cutting her above the eye at a nightclub in Orlando. He is now most likely facing a four game suspension. Holmes then gracefully handled this situation by telling one “fan” via Twitter that “he shud [should] try finding the worst thing that you could [can] n [and] kill urself [yourself]”. My guess is that either Santonio didn’t get the best out of his Ohio State education (unlike one of our faithful readers), or he’s just not a fan of the 140 character limit.
Santonio then decided that he wasn’t done with making a fool out of himself on Twitter. He then wrote one eloquently phrased ‘tweet’ where he declared his desire to “wake n bake”. Which leaves us thinking either he’s a fan of cooking in the morning or marijuana. Since Holmes was charged with possession of marijuana back in 2008 we all might know what he meant.
Nonetheless, the fact of the matter is if a Super Bowl MVP can be traded for a measly 5th round pick, what does this mean for Brandon Marshall?
Marshall’s career has unfortunately mirrored Holmes career off the field more than on it. This trade (I’d call it a heist) has massacred whatever chance the Broncos had to deal Marshall for a first round pick. Meaning, Denver fans will be very angry if a trade occurs involving Marshall on April 23, rounds two and three of the draft. In light of all these events I’m definitely rooting for Brandon to stay. I don’t see the virtue in trading a player of that talent level for anything less than a first. Especially until Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders can prove that their capable of drafting an instant starter. The bottom line is if Marshall is dealt, don’t expect anything lucrative in return.
Apparently the thing to do this offseason is to ship your all-star receivers to teams that have been desperately looking for one at no cost. I for one hope the Broncos do not partake in this phenomenon.
