Broncos announce offensive coaching changes

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Saturday announced several changes to their coaching staff, including the hiring of Bob Ligashesky as tight ends coach and Eric Studesville as running backs coach.

The club also moved Clancy Barone to offensive line coach and named Bob Wylie assistant offensive line coach. Ben McDaniels was promoted to quarterbacks coach, a position previously held by Mike McCoy, who will continue to serve as offensive coordinator.

Ligashesky (pronounced lig-a-SHES-kee) spent the previous six years coaching special teams in the NFL with Pittsburgh (2007-09), St. Louis (2005-06) and Jacksonville (2004). He coached for 19 years at the collegiate level, including four seasons at the University of Pittsburgh (2000-03) as its tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. He oversaw the development of tight end Kris Wilson at Pittsburgh, helping him conclude his senior year as a finalist for the John Mackey Award (nation’s best tight end) before he was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. A three-year letterwinner at defensive back at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Ligashesky was born on June 2, 1962, in Pittsburgh.

Studesville (pronounced STU-dess-vil) spent the last nine seasons coaching running backs in the NFL with Buffalo (2004-09) and the New York Giants (2001-03). He owns 13 years of experience coaching in the league, having also coached with the Bears (1997-2000) following six seasons working at the collegiate level. Studesville, who had additional responsibilities as the Bills’ running game coordinator during the last two years, has helped four players total seven 1,000-yard rushing seasons while overseeing 32 individual 100-yard rushing efforts in the NFL. A defensive back at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Studesville was born on May 29, 1967, in Madison, Wis.

Barone spent the 2009 season as Denver’s tight ends coach after coaching that position for San Diego (2007-08) and Atlanta (2005-06). In his seventh season coaching in the NFL, Barone has worked as an offensive line coach for 17 years, instructing that position as an assistant with Atlanta in 2004 and spending 16 of his 17 years at the collegiate level coaching the offensive line. An offensive lineman at the University of Nevada and Sacramento State University, Barone was born on July 26, 1963, in San Andreas, Calif.

Wylie, a 14-year NFL coaching veteran, has 30 overall years of coaching experience and spent the last three seasons coaching in the Canadian Football League as the offensive line coach for Saskatchewan (2009) and Winnipeg (2007-08). He started his NFL coaching career as tight ends coach for the New York Jets from 1990-91 and has worked with Tampa Bay (offensive line, 1992-95), Cincinnati (tight ends, 1997-98), Chicago (1999-2003) and Arizona (2004). Wylie also owns 13 seasons of coaching experience at the collegiate level, including stints as offensive line coach for Colorado State University from 1988-89. A linebacker at the University of Colorado for three years before transferring to Roger Williams College, Wylie was born on Feb. 16, 1951, in West Warwick, R.I.

McDaniels served as a coaching assistant for Denver in 2009 and owns seven years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and NFL levels. He was a high school coach in Ohio for four years and coached two seasons at the University of Minnesota as a graduate assistant before working with the Broncos’ offense in 2009. A former quarterback, McDaniels led Canton McKinley High School (Canton, Ohio) to a 37-3 record and two state championships during his three years as a starter before competing at Kent State University. He was born on June 6, 1980, in Barberton, Ohio.
