The Denver Broncos‘ first scheduled game of the 2010 regular season has been announced, with the Mile High football club set to enter foreign territory.  Literally.

The NFL announced today that the Broncos will play the San Francisco 49ers in London, England on October 31 (Halloween) as part of the league’s International Series.  Kickoff will be set for 11 a.m. MST (5 p.m. local time).

“It’s a wonderful, historic opportunity for our franchise and will be an unforgettable experience for our players, coaches and fans,” Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said.  “I’m excited for the game in London and am thrilled that the Broncos will be part of the NFL’s continued international growth.”

The game counts as a home game for the Niners, meaning the Broncos will still host eight games at Invesco Field at Mile High.  It also effectively neutralizes what would have been an away game for the Broncos, since San Francisco loses its home-field advantage.

Tell us what you think, fans — do you like the Broncos heading to the UK?  Dish it out in the comments.  Press release after the jump.

BRONCOS TO FACE 49ERS IN LONDON ON OCT. 31
AS PART OF NFL’S INTERNATIONAL SERIES

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos will play a regular-season game outside of the United States for the first time in franchise history on Sunday, Oct. 31, when they face the San Francisco 49ers in London, the National Football League announced today.

The game, which is part of the NFL’s International Series, will be played at Wembley Stadium at 11 a.m. MST (5 p.m. UK). CBS will provide live television coverage of the game in the United States.

“The Denver Broncos are honored to play in London against the 49ers as part of the NFL’s International Series,” Broncos President and CEO Pat Bowlen said. “Our organization has been fortunate to play in several American Bowls in previous years, including one in London, but to play a regular-season game overseas is truly special.

“It’s a wonderful, historic opportunity for our franchise and will be an unforgettable experience for our players, coaches and fans. I’m excited for the game in London and am thrilled that the Broncos will be part of the NFL’s continued international growth.”

Denver’s game against the 49ers marks the fourth time the NFL has hosted a regular-season game in the United Kingdom with the previous three contests played before sellout crowds. The league has held one regular-season game in London each year beginning in 2007.

Including regular-season games played in London (3), Toronto (2) and Mexico City (1), the Broncos-49ers contest represents the seventh international regular-season game in NFL history.

“Playing in London in front of so many passionate and new football fans is a privilege and will be a great experience for our team,” Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “I’m excited for the opportunity, and I am certain that our players and coaches will share my enthusiasm.

“The previous games in London have had a playoff-like atmosphere to them, so that’s always a good thing to play in that type of an environment. We’ll be ready for the challenge.”

Denver has played an international game seven times in club history with its participation in the American Bowl during the preseason. The club has played once in London, losing to the Los Angeles Rams by a 28-27 margin on Aug. 9, 1987, at Wembley Stadium in a game that marked its first-ever international game.

The Broncos also have played in Sydney, Australia (1999), Mexico City, Mexico (1997), Tokyo, Japan (1995, ‘90), Barcelona, Spain (1994) and Berlin, Germany (1992) as part of the American Bowl in the preseason.

Denver’s game against the 49ers was set to be an away game, so the club will continue to host eight regular-season games at INVESCO Field at Mile High during the 2010 season.

I'm pumped that Denver will be going to London and even more stoked that it counts as an away game!! I've always wanted to go to London and this sounds like a GREAT time to go. See some sites, go to an Arsenal game, watch my Broncos…. in London!!! Sounds like a great trip.

  • FJL

Hate it. I'm just glad it doesn't count a as a home game for us.

  • RGS

Hope we get a bye afterward…

  • kerry

can we leave McD there? having no offensive gameplan whatsoever would fit nicely for one of the UK's many soccer teams.

  • TJ

Fish, chips, cup 'o tea, bad weather, worse food, Marry effing Poppins…LONDON!

  • kerry

dont forget to mention, lousy, watered down beer. London sucks.

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

Watered down beer? The U.K. has some of the best beer in the world. The Newcastle plant pumps directly into their soccer stadium.

  • scottishbronco

Great News, I live in Glasgow Scotland so its only a 2 hour plane ride for me to London!!! I been a fan of the NFL for the last 5 years and have always wanted to watch my beloved broncos live!! Been a frequent vistitor to this site for the past couple of years, and funnily enough you guys were one of the first to break the news!!

I went to the London games in 07 and 08 (enjoyed watching the Chargers get a beating!!) and will defo be attending the London game this year!!

It may be alot more exciting for us fans in the UK, but I hope as many as possible of you devoted Denver fans from the states can make the trip across, the atmosphere in previous years has suffered as there are so many fans representing different teams, but overall we put on a good show, and London is a great city to visit.

  • monto

As a UK citizen, I feel I must express myself thus:
    WOOOOO!!!! :p

  • ubba

I just feel bad for all those San francisco fans that will have to travel so far just toJason watch their team lose…Go Broncos!

  • DantePakistan

Common sense says our bye will be the week after, so week 5 @ SF(London) and week 6 bye?

  • TJ

Kerry, you hate everything. I've been to London before and the beer there does NOT suck. It's also great city with an even greater history and culture so chill out, man. Drink your watered down Pissweiser and keep hating life.

Well, Im bummed! that was the one game that I was planning to go to in SF!! Usually Seattle I will go but it's in Denver AGAIN! being a Broncos fan in Portland sucks!
Well at least its a road game for Denver!
    Go Broncos!

  • mikebirty

We don't like your American Beer – its like making love in a canoe…..

  • mikebirty

I've got a smile as wide as the Atlantic. Booked my hotel straight away and have my PIN code for purchasing tickets already.

I can't believe I am going to get a chance to see the Broncos.

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

Please don't confuse the piss water they export for American Beer. In Colorado we have possibly the best collection of breweries on the front range one could ask for: New Belgium, Odell, Bristol, Breckenridge, Ska, etc. (seriously, I could do this all day)

  • SivNiz

    can't forget Boulder Beers!

  • TheTroglodyte

Hopefully not since that would put our bye at week 6. I hate early byes

  • TheTroglodyte

Dude seriously? New Castle is quite possibly the greatest beer in the world. You really do hate everything lol

  • TheTroglodyte

    lmao

  • WhidbeyBronco

    freaking close to water?

  • WhidbeyBronco

hear hear. USA beer is the best bar none. Screw that Brit beer …lol!

  • WhidbeyBronco

It's BS. I like to see them on prime time but the NFL has no business sending teams to play where there should NEVER EVER be a team!!

Meanwhile, at least some Broncos fans over there get to see them…

  • anthony33

It's ridiculous to have teams fly half way around the world to play a frickin' three hour football game.

  • kerry

New Castle is not even close to being the best beer in the world. its not even better then alot of American beers, let alone top Irish beers like Guinness and Harps. and Guinness is THE BEST IN THE WORLD. period.

  • TheTroglodyte

I can't explain how extremely misguided you are on Newcastle. Either you didn't get it fresh enough or your taste buds have some permanent and unexplainable damage :)~ I will agree with you that Guinness is really good beer though. It is served fresher in England than America so at least England has that.

  • broncopassion

The Broncos don't even provide a delivery service from their online shop to the UK but now they are bringing the whole team? Do they have a marketing manager?

Living near London I hope to get tickets but they do sell out fast. Obviously it is great for fans in England, and there are a huge number of ex-pat Americans and servicemen living in London and the UK who will be able to go. By the way the best beer in the world, bitter, comes from English breweries although there are good beers throughout Britain and the Irish make great bitters like Caffrys. Guinness is not a bitter, more a stout, but obviously it is a great beer. In general “beer” on the continent and in the US is light ale or lager and not bitter. So there is no comparison.

As for having the game outside of the US personally I do not think it is what US fans in general want. For a start they only have 8 home games a year, so every game is precious and means more. Hence the greater agony when you lose. Then you have the higher cost and most local US fans cannot afford to attend. Then you have the “carbon footprint” argument of environmental groups.

Personally I would prefer to watch the Broncos play in Denver than at Wembley. The crowd atmosphere is essential to American Football and enhances the occasion. At Wembley it will be artificial.

  • mikebirty

Taylor's Landlord, Black Sheep, Cains Dark Mild, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, Boddingtons (before they sold out), Old Peculiar.

So how many of the BT staff are coming over????

  • Fan From Spain

    I'm sooo going!!!

  • WhidbeyBronco

    footprint?

  • sencunnane

haha kerry you clown!! Harps?? what is that have you ever been to ireland, I live there and 'Harp' lager is is well known to be the cheapest made complete piss ever made. And obviously seeing as youve never been to Ireland you also dont know what real guinness is because guinness outside of irelnad is NOT guninness. And also, jst to say guinness is NOT beer, its stout. so you have zero clue what your on about mate. As for the broncos in London, I will definitely be there. Im usually a fan of your comments because you definitely know what your talking about re: broncos and football. but as for the “beer” talk, stick to the football, cos you know nothing about good beer in america chief.

  • Gary_in_SD

As long as the Broncos aren't the one losing the home game, I say all the better! Sure hope to get to see the game. Will definitely go to a sports bar here in San Diego to see it if the bolts are playing at the time and it's not shown here.

  • terriclark

Cain's Dark Mild has been discontinued, Mike. As a native of Liverpool, this is something of a disaster.
