Denver Broncos rookie linebacker Robert Ayers has been fined $5,000 for his body-slamming tackle on Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles from Sunday, ProFootballTalk reports.

Frankly, Ayers is lucky to get away with only $5,000. An inch the wrong way and Charles is significantly hurt.

This and a fumble recovery return for a touchdown against the Steelers in Week 8 are the only items of note in Ayers’ 2009 rookie campaign. We’re hoping for more in 2010, RA.

This sounds dirty, but I like to see that kind of stuff out of players, he shows fight.

Maybe if one of our so called veteran leaders (read:Bdawk!) could have made a tackle or would have gotten outta hand like that, we wouldn't have had the other runs in that video shoved down our throat? I like the fire. Punish somebody please?

Seriously??? He is getting fined for punching the other guys in the ovaries…what is this league coming to.

I agree with the other guys here, that's a pretty weak fine. It happened during the whistle, not after. This could've drawn a flag for unnecessary roughness at the time, but to fine him a week later when nothing was thrown in game is ticky tacky by the league.

A lot of people are already calling Ayers a bust. I strongly disagree, he became a situational starter in his rookie campaign. That is nothing to scoff at. I think he can grow on what he did in 2009.

Ayers should get some more PT next year. He looks really good, just needs to practice getting quicker of the snap.

German suplex, I believe. Signature move of Chris Benoit. I met him and his wife in Detroit at Wrestlemania a few years back.

Notice how we always get destroyed by KC running backs?

I'm fine with the hit, alot of hits can be classified as dirty. Was it a careless hit? YES, was it dirty ? I dont think so.

The fine surprises me a little, but you are supposed to let up after the whistle.

Not sure about Ayers… big disappointment considering Matthews, Malaluga, Lauranitis and Cushing were all drafted after him and all started almost immediately. They all made a substantial impact and wasn't Cushing named the defensive rookie of the year? I am not ready to call him a bust just yet, but he certainly looks like a waste of an 18th (I think) pick so far.

We're they shopping for a soloflex?

  • WhidbeyBronco

yeah, Ayers might work out… I wanted orakpo or mathews… or if we were going to waste away our next (this) years 1st pick, we could have used our 12 and that one to pick higher! The DL's KC & Green Bay picked ahead of us were starting to play well at the end of the year… Oh yeah and Jenkins with the Cowboys… all players we were looking at

had we known we were going to spend another 1st…!!! McD BETTER draft well this off season. Now we have to replace Marshall too, right…. Gotta go, getting pissed again.

Are you guys kidding? This kid is a punk. He was so frustrated Jamal Charles was abusing us that he suplexed him. How can you guys like a kid like this on the Broncos. The Whistle clearly blew before he did it. I dont like his attitude at all. He obviously was frustrated because of his horrible year and the fact he couldnt even get a sack on Cassel, one of the most sacked QBs.
