Looking to secure the 18th playoff berth in franchise history, the Denver Broncos (8-7) host the Kansas City Chiefs (3-12) this week in their regular-season finale. Kickoff at INVESCO Field at Mile High is set for 2:15 p.m. MST, and the game will be televised by CBS with Dick Enberg and Dan Fouts calling the action.
QUICKLY:
- There are more than 10 different scenarios in which the Broncos can qualify for the postseason as a Wild Card team based on the outcomes of this weekend’s games.
- Denver, which is entering its regular-season finale with a record above .500 for the ninth time in the last 10 years, has won four of its last five games against the Chiefs. In their first meeting against the Chiefs this year (Dec. 6), the Broncos won by a 44-13 margin at Arrowhead Stadium.
OFFENSE:
- Denver has turned the ball over once or fewer in 10-of-15 games and is tied for fifth in the league for fewest giveaways (20).
- With 101 receptions this year, WR Brandon Marshall became the fifth player in NFL history with three consecutive 100-catch seasons.
- QB Kyle Orton’s 10 games with at least a 90.0 passer rating tie for the most in club history for a season (John Elway, 1997) and tie for third in the league this year.
DEFENSE:
- OLB/DE Elvis Dumervil registered two sacks last week at Philadelphia that increased his sack total to a club single-season record 17. He leads the NFL in sacks and is looking to become Denver’s first-ever league sack champ.
- The Broncos rank among the NFL leaders in several defensive categories, including yards per play (2nd, 4.8), yards per game (5th, 301.1), passing yards per game (2nd, 184.9) and sacks (T-6th, 39).
- CB Champ Bailey posted his 46th career interception last week against the Eagles, and that total leads all NFL cornerbacks (T-2nd among all players) since he entered the league in 1999.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
- K Matt Prater is tied for the AFC lead in field goals (29) while tying for fifth in the league in points scored (116). He has made 17-of-18 (94.4%) of his field goal attempts since November (4th best percentage in NFL).
- OLB/DE Darrell Reid, who is tied for second on the team with 10 special- teams tackles, forced a fumble on a kickoff return against the Eagles last week that led to a Broncos touchdown on the ensuing drive.
