Knowshon Moreno‘s 88 rushing yards and one touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 12 paved the way for the Denver Broncos‘ first round pick to earn NFL Rookie of the Week honors, the NFL announced today.  Moreno totaled 107 yards from scrimmage in the Broncos’ 26-6 win over the G-Men Thanksgiving night.

It is the third such award of Moreno’s career, tying him with Jets QB Mark Sanchez as the most weekly-trophied rookie in 2009.

Moreno is making a late push for Rookie of the Year, an award some suggest has already been locked up by Vikings WR Percy Harvin.  His yards per carry are way up, and his pass protection has improved.  If he can continue his pace of late (and keep the fumbles to a minimum), he can still reach that magic 1,000-yard mark and, maybe, give the annual award voters something to think about.

Moreno can get the ROY award iff he beast out the last four games. I'm talking 100-125 yards and atleast 4 touchdowns. Having multiple touchdown games would help. Well its really sad this award rarely goes to the deserving player. Its about fantasy and style points. Harvin is having a pretty decent year. But he has some kick returns, a few long runs and he plays with BRETT FARVE. I'm not saying Harvin doesn't deserve the award but there are some guy like Donald Brown that comes in as a rookie and learns the Colts offense and becomes a successful playmaker. So yeah you may win the ROY award but that doesn't translate to you having the best career out of your draft class.

Ryan Clady made a strong case for Rookie of the Year last year. But the flashy players always get it, it's just the way it is.

If Moreno keeps up the pace I think an argument can be made that he had a greater effect on his team, and I think he can still win it.

Still don't agree with picking a RB in the first round.

  • kerry

i dont think Moreno has a chance at this stage of the season. he just hasnt been a game changing RB. voters of the ROY like flash and big time plays to go with their selection. Moreno hasnt been flashy. Harvin with his kick returns and TD receptions has shown that “flashy playmaking” ability. PLUS he plays with Brett Favre so that right there helps him because all the people who vote just LOVE Brett Farve. even Jeremy Maclin has shown big play ability out in Philly.

  • kerry

agreed. unless you get an Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson type talent then i dont like the first round RB picks of this past year. we could have had LeSean McCoy in the 2nd round and he is exactly like Moreno. agile, not overly fast and has good hands catching the ball.

No Shit!! What a wasted pick!! I like Knowshon just fine but look at Mike Bell for instance… What a waste.

  • WhidbeyBronco

yeah, you MUST be kidding with the rookie of the year talk. Please! Are we serving the koolaid here too now?

  • anthony33

    Rookie of the year…no…who cares.

    Good back…yes…good pick…yes

    Great back…maybe down the road

    Great pick…average.

  • NMBronc

Did I miss something? Is this the Chargers forumn? We haven't had a back with these moves and toughness since TD. Love Moreno, Love the pick. Keep hammering away Moreno and hold onto the ball!

  • WhidbeyBronco

I like the kid but toughness & moves? Haven't seen em! Still a rookie though, I have hope. Still hate the pick…

  • kerry

careful Whidbey. dont be too negative around these parts. otherwise the Kool-aid Vultures will round up their posse and swoop right in and claim you are a mental case or something retarded like that.

  • WhidbeyBronco

Love the barrel man!! Maybe we can get somebody to take over for him?

  • WhidbeyBronco

Oh they've been on me already… funny thing is the worst thing they've called me is Kerry-like …that really hurt
    lol

  • anthony33

Bummer…Broncos should dedicate the next home game to him.

  • kerry

man that must have hurt so much that you MUST be contemplating suicide about now huh? lol.

  • Nisse

being called a kerry-like is the greatest honor this site has to give!

Come on – seriously? Moreno for the ROY? He's not even close. He fumbles like crazy, sucks at blocking, and lacks consistency. He has 688 yards rushing, three touchdowns and four fumbles. Even if he hits the 1,000 mark, his impact hasn't been significant enough so far to earn that award. He would really need to do something amazing over the next five games and the playoffs to even be considered.

You guys are also in the running for the dumbest conversation on a sports blog award. Congratulations!

Are you kidding me!? You need to go watch the giants highlights again. There were numerous occasions that he played smash mouth football fighting for every yard. Not to mention that there is one play that he is about to be planted for a loss and he just 360s and takes it up the hole for a big gain.

    Seriously… go watch some highlights.

  • WhidbeyBronco

oh don't get me wrong, I saw some nifty moves and some hard running. Definitely a pro caliber running back. Much potential there.

I'll still have to say (especially with the fumbles and terrible pass protection) I'm not blown away.

Again though …he's a rookie. He may well be a solid starter or even a star for years. When our O-line learns to run block more consistently? I'd like to have seen another defender taken, (hell take Alphonso there haha) I'd really like to have added another stud O-lineman but don't recall the class being any deeper than the D-line options.

In my mind it's obvious as some nobody stated above… you don't draft a RB that early unless he has special physical skills.

Hey, at least we didn't draft Sanchez!

I'd say that the ROY award is still out there to be won and KM has a very good shot at it if his last 4 games are solid.
