Record: 3-3
Streak: Lost 3
Series vs. Denver: 3-3
Last time: Broncos, 13-3, 2006
The Line: Ravens by 3.5 (early, obviously)
Who’s hot: RB Ray Rice. Would you believe it? The Ravens running back actually leads the NFL in combined yards, tallying 766 yards rushing and receiving. He’s averaging 6.0 yards per carry (running the rock just over 12 times per game) and 9.8 yards per reception. Three of his four touchdowns on the season have come in the past two games.
Who’s not: Baltimore defense. The year-in, year-out stingy defense of the Ravens is much weaker this season, ranking 17th in yards allowed (332.7 ypg) and 22nd in points (21.7 ppg). Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson‘s 143-yard rushing effort in Week 6 also marked the first time since 2005 the Ravens had allowed back-to-back 100-yard rushers.
Matchup to watch: Baltimore O-Line vs. Broncos Pass Rush. The Ravens are undefeated when they protect quarterback Joe Flacco (one sack or less), and they are winless when Flacco is sacked two times or more. A crucial part to this is starting left tackle Jared Gaither, who left their Week 4 game in New England with an injury (starting the sack/losing streak) and is expected to return for Week 8 against Denver. The Broncos‘ league-leading pass rush will be tasked with making sure Flacco, very dangerous in his second year, doesn’t get going the way he did in their second half last week.
