Repeat after me, Denver Broncos fans: The Broncos have a pass rush.
Sounds good, doesn’t it? We’ve only been waiting ten years or so to say it.
The Broncos have tallied 21.0 sacks on the season, good for first place in the AFC and tied for first in the NFL. No one in the NFL gets after the quarterback better than the Broncos.
Leading the charge of the Sack City Revolution is one Elvis Dumervil, linebacker. Dumervil has 10 sacks in six games, including 2.0 in Monday night’s win — a figure that projects to 26.5 sacks by season’s end.
In other words, four full sacks over the league record set by Michael Strahan in 2001.
With games against the sack-able Steelers, Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers, and Eagles still on the horizon for the Broncos, it’s entirely possible that, if he can stay healthy, Dumervil will threaten to break a record that previously stood for 17 years.
Either way, these sacks are turning into big W’s for the Broncos. We’re sure Elvis is just fine with that.
